  1. Help me if you can. I have a friend who has applied for her 10 year green card 3 months before her 3 year one expires. Well it's been almost 3 months and her card expires soon. She has not heard back from anyone in regards to the status of her green card. Does anyone know how long this is taking on the average now and what happens. When her 3 year card expires, is she then illegal and need to leave or does dhe get a grace period until she hears from INS as to if she been approved or denied. Also what the deal with getting an interview or not getting an interview. Do they interview everyone, randomly select people to interview. Thank you for any help you may offer my friend.
  2. Why not use yahoo file share. I've shared files and pictures through that with people from all over the world and havce not had any issues. I know MSN also has one in it's Messenger. You can drop folders into your MSN box and I can see them and down load them. I have not experienced any problems, but you do both need to be online at the same time. Which I woulk think is not a problem for you. I am assuming your using yahoo or MSN to talk as well as the phone. You are able to safe your chat logs in those methods too. Something my ex did religiously and brough with to the interview. They never did ask for them, but we spend hours 5 days a week talking.
  3. I got a letter from USCIS today asking us to send the original grreen card to the Nebraska Service Center. On the I751 form instructions it said to send a copy of the Green Card. That is what we did when we mailed the paper work. Did any one else receive this letter? If so did you mail the original green card in? DOes USCIS asking for this inforamtion signify anything that we should prepare ourself for? Thanks, Scott and Yanli
  4. My wife and I have been married since May of 2003. My wife has recently started yelling that she wants a divorce any and every time we have a disagreement about pretty much anything. My question I am asking here is this. since in March she is to go and apply for her perminate status what happens if we divorce before then. I was always told before that when someone migrates to USA on a financee visa that they had to stay married for either 7 or 8 years before they were able to stay in the country without bieng married. Does anyone here know for sure, what the law is. If we get divorced before her 3 years here when she needs to apply for her perminate green card will she be able to stay in the USA or does she have to go back to china? I think we need to be married for 7 or 8 years before she is able to stay here without being married, yet she seems to think she is able to stay here now without being married. Please let me know what the case is. Thanks, Scott
  5. My wife and I are thinking of going to Mexico for a trip. She is currently in USA and has a Temporary Green card which expires next May and she needs to get it renewed in March of 06. So anyways, we are planning on giong to Cancun Mexico in Sept. I heard conflicting requirements for this. 1: that she needs to get a visa to go to MX and to get back into the USA. 2: That all she needs is to bring her Passport, Birth Certificate and Green card. Does anyone know for sure what my wife needs to enter Mexico and leave Mexico and get back into USA? I would wait to get there, and be stuck in customs for our whole trip. 6. My wife and I have gone through the process, and have been married for about 8 months now. We are gettling close to the year since she has gotten here. Feb. 6th 2003 is when she walked off the plane to wonderful MN cold. Anyways, she has adjusted to the cold pretty good. We are doing good. I just wanted to give you a link to our web page, so that you could see the picutres of our Wedding and honeymoon and a few ohter family type events that have happened over the course of the last few years. I have been very busy the last year, so I have not updated the web site, as much as I would have liiked. I am trying to get better though. take a look and if you like sign the guest book or shoot me an e-mail. Thanks, www.skc-pollock.com My Webpage site Latter, Yanli and Scott
  7. OK, I know that once we are married, we need to go to the INS Office and apply for a change of status form and get her WOrk Permit and stuff. My question is more to do with the Timming. We are getting married on May 3rd. Her Financee VISA expires on May 5th. We were thinknig of leaving for our honeymoon on May 5th. So my question is, should we change our plans and go to the INS office on May 5th, and then leave on our honeymoon on May 6th. Or if we wait and go to the INS office on May 12, will we be ok. Or are we going to have problems with that? Please send responses to: xxxxxxxxxxx.com Thanks, Scott
  8. OK, I am confused big time. I just spent the last 5 hours waiting at my local INS Office to help my financee apply for her EAD card. Form I765. after all this wait, I was told, we have to mail it into the service center in Nebraska, which takes between 90 - 120 days. So they siad your better off not even doing that, as within the 90 days you have to be married, then you have to apply for the perminate one, after you file for the Residental status change. Where as here, it sounds like someone said, they were able to go to the Local INS office and get in on the spot. What gives, this was very frustrating, specially when we got up at 4:00am to be down there and stand in the cold for hours in line. Thanks, Scott
  9. OK, my financee will be ariving no Thursday night, after about a 1.5 year process. So we are now onto the next step. We need to start planning our wedding and her getting her work permit. 1st. I know she is able to get her work permit the day she arrives, so does anyone know what is involved in that. Do we just go down to the local INS office and fill out more papers and then they issue it? 2nd: What do we need for our wedding. How do you go aobut getting married. Is it the same as any other wedding, or do you need speical papers and more paper work to complete the process? I know we need to apply for the marriage lic. And I believe once we are married, we have to fill out more paper work at INS., to change her status. But what else is involved. Thanks, Scott and Yan li www.skc-pollock.com
  10. I realize it does not matter how old you and your Finaincee is, but I too find intteresting the age difference. I am 37 and my Finanee is 28. So it's what a 9 years difference. It appears to me that most Chinese women like their men close to 10 years older. Ok, maybe that is just a sterio type. Latter Scott
  11. I have a question, has any of you experienced the same thing I have. My financee, has gotten her visa a few weeks ago and she is planning her trip here, even though she is planning on flying here on Feb. 6th, she still has not put in her notice or told anyone at her place of employment, that she is moving to USA. Is this a common thing, as I would be putting my notice in the day I got the visa, s othat I would be able to plan things and get things going. But she seems to want to wait till the last min, which I don't understand that, as why wait. Wouldn't it be easier to give a longer notice. Specially if you are in a technical job, where they will need time to find / hire / train a replacement. Maybe it's a USA thing, but I would always give a much notice as I can, my last job, I gave a 6 week notice, as I wanted to stay until I got this one thing done, and I wanted to give them enough time to replace me and such, maybe it's just me. But with the Holiday comming up, which is a week long, there is not much time left for her to give them a notice long enough to be any good. Let me know your thoughts on it. If you like e-mail me at: scott@skc-pollock.com scott
  12. Sorry to say, I am one, who would refuse the ciggerate not matter what. I realize there is different customs and differnt believes, but that is one, I will not do under any circenstantces. I do not get offended if people smoke I just try to find a non-smoking place to hang out until they are done, so I except smokers to feel the same way when I don't, and if they do, that is their problem. I have never liked it, and always pestered the parents to quite. I refused to run to the store and buy them for my parents even if I was going there anyways. I cannot stand them. You are talking to someone who would be driving the car with my mom, and she would lite up, I would pull over and get out of the car until she was done, as I cannot stand it. Scott
  13. My Financee, was given her papers to go back and get pick visa up on Saturday 21st. So she showed up and I cannot believe she actually got it. It does not sound like she had to wait a long time either. I was worried, since I read so many post here, about people getting their papers to go pick up the visa, only to get there, and be told to come back tomorrow. So we got it, now time to start the preperations for her arriaval. Latter, Scott and Yan li
  14. Hello all Today is a great day. Yanli got her EMS. Which it said she can pick her visa up any time, to day restriction. Strange though. I called DOS Monday afternoon, and they had no record of her name check being completed. Now today the EMS comes in the mail. Thursday night. great, time to get my house ready for her. Excuse me why I go clean the bathroom. Scott and Yan Li
  15. Great. I just check the one suite place out. they have rates to china at .119 and .089. I think that is great, yanli and I will love as we can now talk for 3 times as long as what we were paying. So now, how about for yanli to call me from China, are there any places people know of to call from China to USA cheap? thanks for your inforamtion!! Scott www.skc-pollock.com
  16. My Webpage HI, I am new to this web site. My Financee Yan Li just showed it to me this week, and I have been monitoring it every chance I get. I finally thought, it's time to introduce myself. if you go to my web site. www.skc-pollock.com you can click on my vacation icon and then on the China icon to see pictures of my visit to China last year. Yan Li and I have known each other for about 18 months, and have been working through the visa process for the last 13 months. Finally had the interview on Nov. 27th. But like most of you, still waiting for the name check to be completed. I have called the DOS office a few times this week, after getting the number from you guys here. I have also had the same results that most of you did. THe first time, being told to call back in a week, and being hung up on. Then a couple days latter, I called back, talked to someone who looked in the system and said it has not been done yet, don't know when, call back latter. Pretty much a common story here. But at least there is hope. yanli and I, talk almsot daily. Normally 5 days a week via MSN, and then on the weekends I try and call her both days if I am able too. I think we have really spent a lot of time talking, and I probably know her better than most of my previous relationships and defently more than I knew my ex-wife. Which is another story, that I will not go into here. We meet of a dating web site. It was not a Chinese Bride or anything like that. It was actually a web site called WebPersonals. It has been around for a long time, and I know there are a lot of chinese women on there. It is actually a international dating web site. I do think it's mainly states, but there are a lot of other countries in it too. OK, now for one ? I do have. I have not found any real inexpensive way to call China. I was using ICONNECT, which was very reasonable. they had a calling card option, that was costing like .13 a min. Now t hey raised it to .39 a min. Does anyone know of a less expensive way, as that does get to be expensive after a while. Maybe it's time to go back and try the PC to phone thing. That was a little cheaper, have not checked the rates for that, but I did not like that, as the quality was not as good as I thought it could be. let me know what your guys are doing.
