  1. Congratulations!!! Things should start moving faster now. We went the K1 route. So, I don't know too much about CR-1. But, I see that others have directed you to some good info.
  2. Li has always paid cash for Chinese domestic filghts. (Except flights that are on an itinerary I booked in America.) I don't know if she got a discount that way or why that's what she wanted to do.
  3. I took Li on a vacation to New Mexico for Christmas. I took her to one of the finest Mexican restaurants in Albuquerque. I found out the expensive way: She doesn't like Mexican food.
  4. They may no longer be able to hide behide the blanket statement "We are protecting America from evildoers and therefore we need answer to no one." "I've got to admit it's getting better, a little better all the time." <Paul McCartney>

  6. Hopefully the last option in the list will work for you. I think yours is probably not an unusual situation.
  7. That may be the most interesting post I've ever read. It's a short assessment that reveals years of acquired knowledge.
  8. We've got one right here. She's got "just about every subject known to man" covered. Considers herself a matriarchal counselor for all the Chinese women in town married to us stupid American men. My wife has discovered that I'm not always wrong when my thoughts differ from our Chinese expert. But, I still have to prove it.
  9. Welcome to the Chinese expert syndrome. I think almost all of us deal with this periodically.
  10. Maybe: That's the same exchange rate as when I was there last year and the dollar has certainly tanked since then.
  11. I agree with you. Our system is definitely broken. Not only is it expensive, we have the highest per capita incarceration rate in history. (According to stuff I've read and not verified.) I don't claim to know a lot about the Chinese criminal justice system. But, I'd bet that their system is also far from perfect.
  12. Yes, I've seen some of that north/south stuff. (But, we don't have that in America. Riiight???) Li also absolutely avoids exposure to the sun. However, I stick by my previous statement: She is not racist.
  13. I guess I'm not too surprised this thread is still going (it IS interesting). I don't think there has really been any mention of a visa. Just a guy going to meet a girl. About the age difference: It is pretty large, especially considering the cultures. The girls in our Chinese family are just beginning to date at that age. While an American guy his age could already have been married and divorced several times (and have kids her age).
  14. Jin, that's a good idea. But, I don't have time. I hit CFL for a few minutes at a time as kind of a stress relief. While I would not mind doing something like that for the site, I just can't manage it in the middle of a semester.
  15. How cool! B) I was really glad we were able to be married on that most auspicious day. May it be lucky for us all.
  16. Wow! I look forward to the day we can celebrate that. Very big Congratulations!!!
  17. The level we've taken this to in America is ridiculous. Even the rhetoric of the Rev. Joseph Lowery at the presidential inauguration implied that whites are racist: That, after we've just elected a black president. I'm not only hoping that the new administration will be successful, but that openly racist statements by blacks will become as unacceptable as similar statements by whites. As to the original question: No, my wife is not racist. She is simply from a culture where saying something that generally applies to a group of people (the grouping criteria could be race) is not politically incorrect.
  18. Our son was a truck driver in the Chinese army. Unfortunately, his army driver's license was left in China. B) Our state DOT told me if he had the Chinese truck driving license, he would not need to go through the 'learner's permit period'.
  19. I think you will see the light very soon since your case has been transferred to csc. Because my case was transferred to csc on Oct 1st and I just received a email from uscis and it says my case has been proved and they've already send me a welcome letter about a week ago. Hope this will warm you up in this freezing winter, lol. I hope you're right. We were transferred to CSC too. Our son received his welcome letter with his EAD card, we're still waiting for my wife's. It's been 4 months since submission, I just checked the USCIS website, the case is pending...
  20. Us? Most of the time, I think I understand my wife. However, sometimes I'm baffled. We? Being married changes many aspects of day-to-day life. But, in mature people, I think the marriage doesn't really change a person too much. The biggest change is loving someone and being loved everyday.
  21. I agree. The punishment fits the crime. Would I like to see people like Bernie Madoff tried & punished in the Chinese way? You betcha! However, it really doesn't seem as though the level of corruption in China is better than in America. Is their system of justice really a better deterrent than ours? Criminals don't consider the consequences. They think only of themselves, only of easy money.
  22. I really envy you guys who get to be in China for Spring Festival. I've always wanted to be there for that. While I've been able to spend quite a bit of time in China, going in January will not fit my work schedule for the foreseeable future. Enjoy!!! Tell us stories!!!
  23. Li got hers immediately after the EAD card arrived. I don't know if the SAVE system was checked or not. It's probably a State thing (some do some don't).
  24. When it gets so cold that Celsius and Fahrenheit are the same, you know you are in the Great White North.
