My wife will be flying out tomorrow (finally!) and entering the US through San Francisco. Which line should she use when going through immigration, the US resident line because of her CR-1 visa or the non-resident line because it will be the first time entering with the CR-1 and sealed packet? Any other tips or things we should know?

Finally all done with the exhausting immigration process and my wife will be arriving next week, only three weeks after I had to leave China! One of the to-do items on our list is to buy a house, which in order for us to purchase together will likely require her to have some credit history. Does anyone have any good tips or experiences in building up credit for their immigrant spouse? She has already secured a job so will have income, and I will be adding her to my existing credit cards which are in good standing. Looking for whatever else we can do to help.

We just realized that when sending the passport and photos through CITIC bank, we forgot to include a copy of the email from the consulate with them. Does anyone know if this will cause any issues or if they will still process the visa? Can't believe we missed this and a bit worried now.

That's what we were thinking as well. Maybe proof of a return flight would help alleviate any concerns at the POE. If her CR-1 is approved while still in the US, is there a way to finish up the process from there? I think she needs to return to China to finalize, correct?

My wife has a B1/B2 visa that she received last year prior to a trip to the US. Would there be any issues with her traveling on this visa while our CR-1 is in AP waiting for approval?

Stuck in AP for a few months now, I've sent an email inquiry and gotten back the standard cookie cutter reply. Is there a number I can call and speak to an actual person? The GUZ consulate site has a phone number but mentions they can't answer inquiries about immigrant visas and to use the email form instead.

She interviewed a few months ago and we are now in the Admin Processing stage due to CCP.

Any idea if this has impacted approvals as well? Impatiently waiting for my wife's CR1 approval

We experienced the same thing, the status date updated immediately once we got an email reply from them.

I'm currently in the CCP admin processing window for my wife's application as well. The problem we are now facing is that my wife was able to secure a job offer (we started looking early as we didn't think an offer would come so quickly) and they want her to start July 20th. We provided all of the CCP requested info on May 24th, so she could potentially miss out on an employment opportunity if not approved by then. I will be contacting our senator and/or congressman this week. I know they can't directly effect the outcome or push things faster, but hoping an inquiry from them will cause someone to look at our case quickly.

I am helping my wife fill out the DS-160 for her mother, her sister, and her sister's husband so that they will be able to visit us later this year. My wife and I are still in China and will not be back until July, but want to submit this while we are here so that we can go with them to submit in Shanghai. Question is: how do we answer "Do you have any other relatives in the US?". We are not in the US, but my parents are? Are they technically relatives for this purpose as "in laws" or should we stick with NO as the answer?

The I-864 is a stand-alone form which goes on file to document your ability to support your wife. Follow the directions when filling out his form, but it is YOUR responsibility to provide a true picture of your financial situation. If the I-864 falls short in this regard, be sure to include a separate statement showing your actual income. DO NOT rely on any verbal explanation. thanks. after reviewing the 1040, my "total income" still shows a reduced number omitting foreign income. I will write up an explanation showing the full figures. I do have a contract from my company showing I will return back to the office there in the US once my time is up here so that will show income continuing.

Did some searching and while there is a lot about foreign earned income, my situation is a bit different. For the past few years i have been temporarily working in China for a US company and still get paid by them in USD. On my W2 it shows total wages which is well above the poverty threshhold. However, on my IRS 1040 Adjusted Gross Income is below the threshhold because the income is claimed as foreign income (due to my being out of the US for the entire period). Not sure about the specifics of how this works, as my company hires KPMG to do our taxes for us. Question is, can this be explained by my wife in the interview by showing both my W2 and the additional forms included in my return showing the foreign income? Also, which amount should I enter when filling out the i-864? The intructions state to use the amount from the 1040 form shown as Adjusted Gross Income, but that amount is not reflective of the true situation.

Quick follow up, in the case of AP due to CCP, once approved how will we get the passport to them? Another trip to Guangzhou or something more simple like sending through CITIC?

My wife and I have been going through the CR-1 DCF process and are at the point of the medical and interview. We've also been planning a trip to Europe in late May. We had mapped out the timing of everything and thought it would all work out, but her Schengen visa for our Europe trip is taking longer than planned and we do not have her passport back at this time. Her medical appointment is on Friday so we are now getting concerned. Our initial planned timeframe (which we thought was a bit tight but would be sufficient): March 27 submit for Schengen visa (processing time was given as 4 working days) April 10 medical appointment April 20 interview in Guangzhou May 15 leave for Europe trip Questions are: What is the process to expedite the medical results? We are doing it in Shanghai and she called them and was told they could not expedite, which conflicts with what i've read. If we need to reschedule her medical appointment would need to expedite the results to keep our same interview dateAt the interview, I expect to receive only preliminary approval because of her CCP status (she is a member). If this is the case, do they still collect her passport or do we get to keep it until final approval? Also, in the case of her getting an actual full approval, about how long do they keep the passport before returning to us.

A bit of conflicting info here so want to be 100% sure I follow the correct process The email I received asked me to complete the DS-260 online and submit: copy of personal information page of passport and 2 photographs. It did not mention anything else (besides the cover letter when submitting the documents) and states "Do NOT submit other documents to the Consulate at this time, as they will be destroyed." However, when I log into the website to complete the DS-260 it states "After submitting the DS-260, provide all supporting documentation (as listed on the Documents The Applicant Must Submit web page) for each applicant to your Consulate or U.S. Embassy.". Following the link there is a list of documents including the above and adding birth certificate, police certificate, marriage certifcate, etc. My question is, do we follow the email strictly as that is specific to our case and the website is more generic? All of the additional items listed we had already submitted with the I-130 with the exception of the police certificate. If we follow the email, should we include this one or just bring to the interview? I'm of the opinion we just follow the email until we hear otherwise but don't want to take any chances here.
