  1. If I recall, the only series of shots for Jingwen and the kids after they arrived was for Hep B. They did have a few shots done in China during the interview phase, and I can't remember if they might have had a second shot after they arrived. We went to county health and got the shots and brought the vaccination record to the civil surgeon for his use in completing the supplemental form. As far as submitting the form with the AOS, we did, but others did not, opting to bring the supplement to the AOS interview. Maybe someone from the Boston area can shed some additional light on submitting the supplement with the AOS.
  2. Ty posted this a while back, and it explains the interplay between the K-3 and CR-1: http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...ndpost&p=139225 As I read the post, if the CR-1 paperwork gets to GZ before the P3 is returned, the K-3 is canceled. Otherwise, you seem to have the option of continuing the K-3 or CR-1.
  3. I bought a R/T for myself and one way tickets for Jingwen and the kids - wanted to make sure we'd be flying together to the US. Our return flight to America was 10 or so days past the interview date. Either we would cure any problems if the visa was denied or we would go back to her home town and pack, and say goodbye, etc. Fortunately, it was the latter. One way tickets bought in China seem to be less expensive than in the US, but I was unsure about doing this and being able to fly together. Also, DO NOT buy R/T that originate in the US for your SO who would use only the second leg. Airlines will typically cancel your return leg if you do not use the outbound leg.
  4. The Triggster is right about the EAD. If you haven't already done so, you can get an SSN now that she has her EAD, so maybe the $175 wasn't a complete waste.
  5. Congratulations. Now go treat that ulcer before she gets here. Best wishes.
  6. Congratulations. Tell Zixuan that it was only easy because of all the hard work that went into the prep.
  7. Can't pass up the opportunity to congratulate you again. Best wishes.
  8. Well, there goes a month that would otherwise be spent waiting. Now you can use it to start running around like a headless checken trying to get everything ready for the big day. Congratulations and good luck.
  9. That's certainly good news. Anyone besides Sam and Sino down that way? I know we've got a few Mississippians.
  10. I'd say the chances are better for dad than for sis, particularly if she's single.

  12. Can you say righteous indignation? A 1-2 year process just to get an immediate family member a visa is frustrating enough. Having incompetence (lawyer) only adds to that. I leave you with one thought. Despite the trials, tribulations, setbacks, frustration, anger, and a host of other emotions, I can tell you that it will end one day, and the lost time will slowly recede to that portion of the brain where it will become a distant memory. Hang in there. She will be here. Never forget that.
  13. Congratulations. Sounds like it all went according to plan. Best wishes.
  14. Good news Dennis. Like you, I used e-mail to GZ more often than calls to DOS. Sometimes, the information was not what I wanted to hear, but I have always thought GZ was responsive. Sounds like you're in the queue.
  15. Assuming your wife comes to the US on a K-3 rather than the CR-1, she will have to apply for adjustment of status in order to get a green card. Except in very limited circumstances, a K-3 visa holder will need an EAD (employment authorization document) before he/she can get a "valid for employment" SS card. Here are a couple of links that provide some additional information: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?pg=k1k3aos http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?pg=ssn
  16. What a long strange trip it's been. Hopefully, this will be over soon.
  17. I'm with the majority on this one: American ginseng and vitamins/supplements. Always a big hit. There are lots of other things as well, but watches/clocks are a no-no.
  18. I'm going to stir the pot a bit here. I think there are actually two temporary EADs. The first is one that can be applied for within 90 days of entry into the US. You'll sometimes hear this referred to as a category (a)(6) EAD. This EAD cannot be renewed, and I think this is the one that JFK probably issues. The second temporary EAD is one that USCIS will issue if your application for a "real" EAD, often referred to as a category (c )(9) EAD, has not been acted on within 90 days of filing. Since you are close to filing for AOS, I would recommend that you bypass the (a)(6) EAD and file the I-765 application for the (c )(9) EAD at the same time. If USCIS does not issue the EAD within 90 days, you can contact them, make an appointment (if required) and get a temporary EAD while the application continues to be processed.
  19. Since you're filing AOS, I'm assuming your wife was either K-1 or K-3. If K-1 (marriage in the US), you can contact the county or jurisdiction where you got married and get a certified copy. Maybe things have changed, but I don't recall sending in original certified copies for Jingwen's AOS. Rather, I provided photocopies and executed a form FC-29 where I stated that the copies were exact copies of the originals and that I agreed to provide originals if later required.
  20. Welcome to CFL. When you say 2nd packet, you are referring the the second packet to be received from the consulate or the 2nd packet in the entire process? If it's the latter, and you are waiting on getting your second notice from USCIS on your petition, you'll have plenty of time for your fiancee to gather the required documents. If you're talking about the second packet from GZ, often referred as P4 or the appointment packet, it's time to make sure you've got all the required notarial documents. As it relates to notarial documents, Marty is correct. Such documents would also include police clearance certificates and marital status certificates. Think of notarial documents as the equivalent of certified documents that are provided by a governmental body. Take a look at http://www.usembassy-china.org.cn/guangzhou/iv/kvfaq.html (towards the bottom) for a listing of those documents that will be needed when she goes for her interview.
  21. Another small step toward the promised land. If you've run out of Cheetos, you can always watch the "clearance delay" game between DHL and GZ, as officiated by the Chinese customs referee. I believe you can find it on your local waiting room channel.
  22. More superstitions than I can remember. Two that immediately come to mind: talk of death is followed by spitting and never tickle a baby's soles for fear of damaging the child's ability to walk.
  23. I wired transferred from a BOA checking account to a BOC savings account back in 2003 - no problem. Just be careful about the account number. They're about a long as a google. This was a one time transfer, and I don't remember the cost.
