  1. Check the box making you the agent and mail it back to the NVC. thanks It looks like they will ask for the I-864 and a fee to process it. I thought this is turned in at the interview??? I want to get a head start and fill out/print and get signed all that I can so my wife can sign where needed when I am in China next month..I may just leave the dates off them...if you know what I mean...and only apply then when I am about to mail them out....what do you think? Good idea. Date your forms last before mailing. I don't think it's changed in the mailing process but you will get the I-864 fee bill first and then after payment, they will mail the I-864 to you, which a barcode sheet is included that needs to be mailed back with the form. Follow the instructions and you'll be just fine. After sending the I-864 back to the NVC, in about a month, you will receive the immigration fee bill and after that's paid, you'll receive the applicant package containing the DS-230 about another month later. Be careful about trying to get a "head start" on the forms because barcode sheets are involved. There is a link somewhere here and on VJ that circuments all this but I don't recommend it. Haste makes waste, I always say. Just be patient with the system. All will come to pass in due time. Some consulates do take the I-864 at time of interview and some don't. The US consulate in GZ doesn't. The NVC does all the adjudication before sending the petition to GZ. Everything should work fine for you. Just take your time and do it right. -good luck
  2. Congrats goes to spacebar but now we have to see how waitingguy fairs. I hope things went well for him and his lady too.
  3. "A piece of cake!" Congratulations!!!
  4. I put it to 'em, (the op), straight which comes from a great deal of experience. In fact, I've been thinking about calling them to see what they have to say about my stepdaughter's case. I'm no longer at their mercy as I once was when I went through trying times with some real asinine people who never really answered my questions directly or at all. Now- it's my time to be the "difficult one!"... Ain't it sweet!
  5. My wife has a given name and her surname. She doesn't have a middle name.
  6. Thanks for the interesting link, Randy. You know, I never really given it any thought about how long after the written date, a check is good for because I never had one go any length of time without being cashed, but that is a legitimate concern, I suppose. However, most should honor a check and cash it within a reasonable amout of time and most do. I would take it as irresponsible on an agency like the USCIS to hold on to a check for any considerable, or unreasonable amount of time and they should be held accountable for it should the check bounce. I understand it now. Thanks
  7. Someone else please explain it to him. You didn't answer my question. My question was, Do you have an expiration date on your personal checks? I don't and I never had. What kind of banks are you all dealing with that has expiration dates on your personal checks??? Again, That's absurd! You write a date on the check in the upper right hand corner. It is supposed to expire after 6 months or 1 year (whatever the expiration period is). The bank MAY return it for that reason. You and I are both aware that this rarely to never happens. Oh, I see now; a written date. Yes, when would that ever happen and certainly it wouldn't be of any fault to the writer of the check. I thought it was a printed date on the check that was being asked about which I never heard of.

What kind of banks are you all dealing with that has expiration dates on your personal checks??? Again, That's absurd! I used to have my social security number on mine until they quit doing that a couple of years ago. And then there's your routing and account number and, of course, the check number. But never an expiration number, (i mean date.)

  10. You've gotten hold of a fool. Try calling again tomorrow. Maybe you'll get a better operator. Some of them really can be jerks! -good luck
  11. Then praytell, tell me why it "bounced", or was "returned", as you so casually put it? Correct me if I'm wrong but usually when a check "bounces", it's because of "insufficient funds", or in other words, you haven't got a dime in your checking account, as I so casually put it. Besides, I never heard of a personal check that expires and I've written thousands of them over the years. I never seen an expiration date on my "pretty rainbow" color checks. Is there anything you are disagreeing with? The whole topic here is about the possibility of a check being "bounced" or returned because it expired. I call that "bounced". I am also saying that this is very unlikely. If they notice a date that is too old, they're likely to assume it was a typo by the checkwriter. Whenever I "bounced" a check, it wasn't because of some "expiration" date, which I never heard of being on a personal check. Maybe on a corporate check where they are hiring scores of immigrant workers but not on a personal check which I think is what most people would use, except for money orders. Do you have an expiration date on your personal checks? If so, then I suggest finding a different bank. An expiration date on a personal check. That's absurd!
  12. Check the box making you the agent and mail it back to the NVC.
  13. They only do this if the bank bounces the check - in other words, this is VERY unlikely to happen. There's a BIG difference between an expired check and a check that bounced! If it bounces, then they should file your case; in the circular file cabinet! If the check is RETURNED, it is "bounced". They do not send you your check back unless the bank RETURNS it. 15. Good info. Thanks. All the more reason to send a USPS money order. They never expire. And I don't want my case "suspended" and no telling how long it will take for the CIS to contact you to let you know not only that your check expired but your case has been suspended until payment is received and/or further notice No thank you. I much rather play it safe. use USPS money orders
  16. I have a feeling that she'll do just fine, spacebar. Best wishes to you both!
  17. I don't quite follow you, credzba. You say your I-130 was recently approved, 10/23. Have you received anything from the NVC yet? That may take a couple of months after the I-130 approval. Your wife will be sent a copy of the DS-3032 but you will receive a copy of it as well. -good luck
  18. Hi TY Wish you the best on your stepdaughter's case. Gino Thanks for the well wishes, Gino!
  19. Congratulations to your wife, Lance. Like they say, "it comes in three's." I've been watching; first Patrick's wife, now you, and now I hope it will be my stepdaughter's turn after waiting 39 months. I took her last week to do biometrics, (again). I hope to see a GC in the mail real soon! Congratulations again! B)
  20. There has been cases where the applicant returns after 3 months and is told to wait even longer. It could string out to 7 months or more.
  21. A more fitting and appropriate quotation for your sentence would be, "She was sent down...", not sent away; like in the movie, "Xiu Xiu: The Sent Down Girl."? You're not the only one who has a girl that was "sent down" during the cultural revolution.
  22. You can go thru with the K1/K2 interview. After receiving the visas and coming to the United States, you can file form I-131, Advance Parole and let her return to China to finish college. That's one way to appraoch it. Hey Ty, how long do you think it would take (approx.) to file and receive the advance parole? I'd say at most, 90 days. To trim it down; 60 to 90 days. You can begin preparing the application at you leisure. -good luck
