  2. This is what i have done when installing her QQ2013 ONLY Chat! But i keep getting stupid little carton bird flying around the screen. The wife has no clue about computers and can not explain to me what this. All she knows about computers is how to turn it on and open QQ. She can surf the net a little. We go through this every few years and i always install it the same was with only the basic options (Chat only) But it looks like this 2013 version has some bloat ware installed by default and no way of turning it off. It would be great if i could read Chinese. cant help you on the reading chinese, but I did just go check wifes computer. It is QQ 2013 on win 7, and theres no birds flying around. If You need a process list, or list of installed files I'd be happy to get it for you. I looked into alternative chat programs, and pidgin has a qq add-on. I run linux on my machine, so I don't know if thats an option for windows.
  3. I had these same frustrations with my wife and daughter until I installed qq for them, and made sure not to install the bloat, but they only wanted chat. Have you considered making her a virtual image that she can pollute any way she wants, and you can just revert to a clean snapshot ? I don't know if you have any vm software available, but there are some free ones if you don't.
  4. I believe it depends on how long your staying. I have only registered once, and it was after I'd been there 3 weeks... I was a little concerned there would be trouble. But, no trouble, and it seems like I read you have 1 month to register. Sorry, all vague and no facts but check on how long you have to register.
  5. If the purpose is to educate you child, wont you have to be in the USA?
  6. So, whats stopping me from capturing one of these drones, and converting it to my own drone ?
  7. Yeah Dan, but your sane. Isn't everyone else on board with the sabre rattling? 2 US b-52 fly through immediately for no reason? Japan tells its passenger flights not to comply. Sadly, it seems like all the powers involved want to play truth and dare like they were elementary kids on the playground. It really lowers my opinion of all the governments involved, if that is possible.
  8. It is just an Air Defense Identification Zone .. I see where people think its an attempt to establish control over the islands, but I don't see any published rules about how far out a country can request identification for the purposes of their own Air Defense, which is what this is. I am not foolish, and I see the underlying implication, but decisions cannot be made based on implicit reasons. Every country seems able to define their own ADIZ zones, so if that is true they could define one in the middle of now-where if they wished to enforce it.
  9. I read Tsap, and other vets talking about fighting for no good reason. Would our citizens really tolerate going to war with China over these islands? It seems very unlikely, and certainly a career ending move for whoever supported in in congress. In addition, the world economy is barely stumbling as it is, this would certainly wreck what life there is in the worldwide economy. Seems like all bluffing to me, no sane American is going to die for these islands.
  10. It is not just in China, my wife has been in America for 5 years, and still the hair drops a lot. When she combs her hair in the morning, she has to pick up all the hair from the floor, in the shower it clogs the drain. The amazing part is she STILL has a thick head of hair, so it must also grow quickly.
  11. And when George shoots one of them its gonna be racisms right? Did you notice in the video, the targets were all white ?
  12. When we are in China, various family members do this. I thought it was not washing, but trying to sterilize the glasses before use with boiling water or tea. It made sense to me since you never know whats been on the glass before you got it, but I have to admit after you all pointed it out, the tea is probably not hot enough to kill any germs. Still, I never got sick eating in China, so maybe it works ?
  13. I would not agree to cheating the system .. well at least not in public, but my wife paid into a pension plan all her working life, and in fact paid a lump sum into it when we came to America so that she would be eligible to receive retirement payments. The payout is just an ordinary pension payout based on an amount payed in, not like our ss where you pay in, but the payout is not directly tied to your payin amount. In my mind, my wife is owed that money as surely as if she had bought a pension plan with a private bank, and paid into it all her working life.
  14. My wife said she would loose her chinese pension if she becomes us citizen before she starts the payments. After she starts payments, she thinks it will be okay, but she doesn't know for sure. For my wife, the money is small, but it is the idea that she paid in so much that she wants it back.
  15. Just to be clear - the two year requirement is that you must have been with her at least once during the two years prior to filing. You are with her NOW, so you satisfy this requirement. Yes, understood. It's different in my case as I am living in China. However, I wanted to show the evolution of our relationship from meeting last year until today. My situation was very similar to yours. In fact the time between actual divorce, and marriage was about 60 days, and that was just because I couldn't get back to China any faster My wife had no visa problems at all. You will read over and over that they look at the whole picture, and I believe its true. Is your wife from one of the high visa fraud provinces? Do you have plenty of income to support her, or just barely making the minimum required? Is there a reason you and her marriage looks unusual (huge age difference, unreasonable education backgrounds)? Who knows what all else, but infidelity is not a concern .. lol .. seriously. Even if your evolution of relationship said you cheated on your wife for 2 years, got caught, and divorced her to marry your true love, that would not be a red flag ... in fact it would probably support not being fraud Build the entirety of your case, and don't worry.
  16. The whole farm issue reminds me of Mao's giant leap forward where he had them melt down all the farm tools, and then millions starved. Will the destruction of the farms result in some similar tragedy ?
  17. That is not accurate at all. The local college reviewed the courses my wife had taken in China, and mapped those to courses they offered, then granted her credit for all those courses and a equivalent degree based on that assessment.
  18. I think we were just lucky, not really planned, but I believe our daughter got the optimal education from the 2 countries. She grew up in China, and studied her butt off until 10th grade. In 10th grade she came to America, and still worked hard, but really learned nothing educationally in 11th and 12th grade. What she did learn was English and culture for those 2 years, such that entry into college was easier. She works hard all the time, so she probably would have done well no matter what, but those 2 "free" years in America before college really helped her excel in college. Those 10 years of hard work education in China gave her a basis that gave her an advantage over all the American educated children. I have seen other kids come from China, with the same circumstances and they did not do as well. Perhaps the answer is hard working kids will do well anywhere, and lazy kids will do poorly everywhere. The only differences are in China, being lazy will get you kicked out of the system earlier. In America you can be lazy and still get out of high school. In the middle is where the decision is more difficult. If you are in the middle in China, you might as well be at the bottom (or close to it). In America, you can get a job, and a fairly decent life with just medium work, and medium intelligence.
  19. So, I think you mean its none of our business?
  20. I think they even vary by location within a country. I lived in Dallas TX. for many years, and moved to Austin in my 30s. I remember VIVIDLY the feeling of wanting to tell the person in line in front of me "can't you shut up and finish". After living for a year or so in Austin, and learning to relax some, I could tell the outside people from the local people because the locals didn't rush. You expect country folks to be in less of a rush than city people.
  21. while it seems callous to drive away, what are you going to do if you stop? Calling emergency is certainly the best thing to do. Perhaps it is pragmatism ?
  22. Something I didn't see mentioned is the option to have baby crib hung from divider in front row seats. I flew to China once, and happened to sit near the front row of the cheap seats. 2 families with babies sat in the very first row, and the airlines had these small baby cribs that attached to the wal in front of the seats. The babies still cried during takeoff and landing, but the 14 hour flight they were comfortable, and mom and dad didn't have to hold them the whole way.
  23. Last night I was talking with my wife, and she said .. (I don't remember the sentence) .. but then she stopped and said "Is that correct English? I think it should be ... (whatever else)." I laughed at her and told her she had reached a milestone, her verbal English exceeded her learned English. You see, her verbal, first take sentence was correct, and her learned grammar correction was wrong. I think it is very difficult to learn a language from books, but living in the country rapidly accelerates the education.
  24. You may need to tell your provider you changed to docsis3. I think they provision the protocol, but not certain.

    From Yulin

Yes - swamp coolers. Many homes in the southwest U.S. use whole house versions instead of A/C units - much more economical and add moisture to the air in dry conditions. The water vaporizes and produces some pretty cool air, although one fan can't do much cooling by itself. Surprisingly comfortable. I expect they'll be in use until the colder weather hits in December. I wish I had one in Austin. The air here is so dry, makes your skin dry out.
