  1. I have also heard the 20,000rmb figure. My wife was previously married and divorced,so I dont think her parents gave the money back to her ex when they got divorced.
  2. I remember a couple of years ago,a soup stall owner was angry at his competition across the road,so he dumped rat poison in the morning soup,I remember it was about 30 killed. They were ladeling out the soup while people were lying on the floor dying. Remember those people poisoned recently in the DongBei Hospital by a bucket containing rat poison used to prepare food? The development of highways in China will make crime a lot easier in the future.
  3. Exactly! Which is why I alluded to scapegoating. It'd be real easy for the gov't officials to round up a few poor farmers and have a quick trial (or not) and put either them in a cell or a bullet in their skull and pronounce the problem solved. Business as usual. Probably been that way for 5,000 years.
  4. Exactly. I have a "death is too good for them" policy. Could I interest you in a slightly used Makita Cordless Electric Varible Speed Reversable Drill and a box of rusty corkscrews?
  5. Hmmmm...Just two guys/three tons a day? Sounds kinda scapegoaty to me. Baaah! (You know, the "scape goat" used to be the one they let go,but now thats changed. The scape goat is the one who GETS IT .)
  6. Ill tell you whats wrong. The truck spends days zig-zagging all over the place on some roundabout journey, then goes and picks up a load of something intended for industrial or farm use, then they take it instead to the sleek high tech food factory and dump it in your baby formula. And why? So sombody can pocket $7 profit. It is sickening. This is also how energy is wasted in China, burn LOTS of fuel to turn a profit of one or two cents.
  7. Will the chances of receiving "Green Card" in a timely fashion increase by staying put and not moving around to different places after getting married? I know of case where the Mexican entered the USA on Fiance Visa and married the American man. The married couple then lived in 3 different states in the first two years of marriage. The Mexican bride's Green Card was delayed due to not keeping a permanent address.
  8. . . . except for the normal several months period that we all wait through. It'll be processed by the USCIS and NVC before going on to GUZ. "Proof Of Support" is necessary. Bringing the boy over here would require "Sponsorship".
  9. Are you saying we should not EXPECT any letter to come, instructing her to get medical exam for the Green Card? Are we just waiting for some kind of "Green Card Appointment Letter" to arrive? She got fingerprinted in TAMPA,then her EAD Card arrived in the mail. Thats the last contact from them. Its been about 3 months since the EAD Card arrived. No more letters received since.
  10. She is just WORRIED (advice from Chinese co-workers)that she needs to get her MEDICAL EXAM. The last thing we have received was her EAD Card. We have not received anything else since, and we have never received anything regarding a "Medical Exam Appointment". I assume there is nothing to do now except wait for a letter to arrive instructing her to go and have a Medical Exam.
  11. How old is her son? He is 8 years old. He could have come here the same time she did but for: *The Father has custody. *Sponsorship. Luckily, the boy has a nice home and very good family environment in China.
  12. Set a spell! We're just starting to worry now (after 2 1/2 years) I thought I was right. She is happier now that she has her EAD Card. Of course I want to file these applications in a timely manner.
  13. Since my wife received her EAD Card, she has been working LEGALLY and has been successful at earning money and being independent. She has been in America less than one year. Now we are waiting for her Green Card. I have been telling her that: *Having the EAD Card is the most important, and working regularly is the best thing to do to work towards citizenship. *She is able to earn money, save money and send money to her family in China. *She is free to return to China ANYTIME,as long as she first OBTAINS THE PROPER RE-ENTRY DOCUMENTS so she can return to America. (And because she has the EAD Card, she is working and has MONEY and can afford to return to China for an extended 6 month visit) *She wants her son to be able to come to America, and its not necessary for her to have a Green Card to achieve that. Am I wrong? I dont see ANY REASON to worry about getting the "Green Card". The EAD Card is enough, right? Is there any reason to want the Green Card to arrive sooner rather than later?
  14. We filed $1010usd worth of stuff (sorry) a few months ago. Then,we received a letter instructing to go get fingerprinted in Tampa. Then,we waited. Then, the EAD Working Card arrived in the mailbox and my wife started LEGALLY working a couple of months ago. Thats it. WHATS NEXT??? Have I forgotten anything? I assume the next thing to happen is a letter will come instructing to go make Medical Exam (in USA) should arrive? Theres nothing more I can do-right? Just wait for the Med-Exam instructions to come in the mail? My wife has started pestering me about this so I had better have an answer for her tonight! (I think we are supposed to just wait for that Med-Exam letter, but every time she gets around "new" Chinese friends, and they start giving her "advice" about her Green Card, she starts getting impatient and militant towards me.) Demilitarized Duck with Plumb Sauce for dinner tonight!
  15. To begin with,my wife received her EAD Card the day after I posted this. Receiving that EAD Card, the bright red, white and blue EAD Card, has totally changed everything. My wife can now walk in to ANY business, hold her head high, and expect to be treated fairly. This opens up a much wider range of possible job opportunities. She can paper the entire city with job applications, and not have to worry about breaking any confusing and inconvienient employment laws that ILLEGAL FOREIGNERS,and their American bosses regularly ignor. All hours paid for work ON THE CLOCK and accounted for. No more kow towing to crooked restaurant owners expecting her to work 14 hours a day for literally NOTHING ???(I mean REALLY!!!) I have not read any of the replies you fine people made to my original post, but I sincerely hope someone got something positive out of those 3 pages full. I lay it all on the line. Im not going to hide my true feelings from you people. I come before you in this manner because if I were to reveal myself to you in my true form I would appear so hideious that you would not be able to gaze upon me with your naked eyes without suffering severe emotional trauma and permenent blindness. B)
  16. Still NO EAD card! EVERY TIME my wife has tried to work (dont even know if this is illegal),EVERY TIME they (filthy rich Taiwan/Hong Kong restaurant owners)she gets treated like a DOG and gets cheated out of her money too. These are FANCY restaurants, not fast food. Most recently the "TOKYO PEKING RESTAURANT" on Fruitville Road in Sarasota gave NO MONEY for my wife working 5 days!!! These SLIME BALLS in their White Mercedes wanted: Work from 10AM till Midnight, too late to ride bus home. These slime balls keep an apartment behind the restaurant,in there are LEGAL Asians and ILLEGAL Mexicans, all living together and working for that slime ball Taiwan owner. They offered my wife can stay in that apartment if she wants. After 5 days of "training",my wife asked "Can I make money now",but this slime ball Taiwan owner said "If you dont like it you can take a walk" 5 days,10AM to Midnight = No Money!!! Now you know why Chinese people have a BAD REPUTATION here in America, because of these rich slime ball Taiwan/HongKongers owners. The other time it was a rich BangKok Thailand fat assed owner, but at least they tossed her a few coins at the end of her 14 hour shift. My wife OWNED/OWNS a guesthouse in Laos/China and has been serving "foreigners" for years,so she is quite able to do this kind of work here in America. The problem is: Got married December 2007 in Florida. We paid the STINKING $1,010 FEE for her AOS package. Wheres the freaking EAD Card???????? Is it TOO MUCH to ask for??? NO EAD CARD!!!!(Fingerprinting was in Tampa 6 weeks ago). By not giving her the EAD card, she is being SET UP to be taken advantage of,or even abused by crooked employers. NOW this has created a problem when my wife visited our local health department to get her "female stuff" taken care of. Were not looking for anything free, but we cant afford (NO EAD CARD!!!)the expensive doctor either. Its like this: "You are "visa" foreigner,so "NO SLIDING SCALE FEE for you,YOU MUST PAY FULL PRICE"9Too bad,if you were illegal Mexican we would hand everything to you on a silver platter). Wading through the ocean of ILLEGAL MEXICANS in the waiting room, getting health care FOR FREE,my wife now says she will WAIT to see a doctor when she goes to China next time. We will not allow her to put off her medical care, but she has no trust in these American doctors anymore. If my wife cant work legally, our marriage is doomed. With no job,she cant be independent or feel good about herself. I brought her here to begin our new life, but without EAD Card,I have only delivered her in to the hands of these EVIL Taiwan/HongKong/Thailand slave masters. Ive basically handed her over to a life of slavery. Its called the "Tokyo Peking" restaurant, next to I-75 on the Fruitville Road exit in Sarasota. These people need to go to jail for their lawlessness. WE follow the law,WHY DONT RICH RICH FILTHY RICH TAIWAN RESTAURANT OWNER FOLLOW THE LAW???? I hope they loose all the window glass in their White Mercedes and restaurant front.
  17. Well, this is obviously in response to China raising their Visa fee for Americans. That will teach them! Let's see how they like it come July 09,2009 (Exactly 11 months AFTER the Beijing Olympic opening parade.See what I mean), when we stop making it so easy for them to get that EAD Employment Card! (Not to mention the upcoming crackdown on all those who lied on the I-485,part 3,question #7 "Nazi Question".
  18. Do what you can. Take time to gather new evidence, and study what you may have dont wrong. Maybe you included TOO MUCH info on the Applications, but your supporting documents did not match up with what you wrote on the applications. You have 87 days, but its best if you act now. If you send more stuff to them,Im sure they will send you another letter, quickly, then you will have another chance to correct things. If you wait around and take a long time, then maybe your file gets shoved to the back of the drawer.
  19. So far its only the Asian supermarkets trying to rip me off, doubling their rice price! Winn Dixi (Florida supermarket) still has 10LBs for $4.19. Its all the "Jasmine" and "Basamati" thats short, because of some LaoDa hoarding. We buy our vegetables from the Mexicans at the flea market, while all the Asian supermarkets in my city no longer receive my patronage. (WongKai Market in Bradenton Florida is selling 50LBs of ordinary white restaurant rice for $23,up from $17,not too bad) In South Korea its been $35 or $40 for a bag of rice (Today I dont know what they are paying),so we can get used to paying what they have been paying for a long time. Japan?Rice has always been expensive there too. I was on a bulk cargo ship going to Japan full of high quality Japanese rice, grown in California. I dont even think we are allowed to buy that crop. All of the "exotic styles" of rice we buy is imported, though the best Japanese rice is grown right here in America. I think Japan sells all of their rice, and imports all of the rice they eat from America.
  20. I have explained to my wife and daughter that America is very rule oriented place. Rules are made and followed, we must do things in a orderly fashion. Most Americans, at least midwesterns, will stand in line and wait till their turn. I really wanted to stress that we must do things in a certain order. Doing it chinese way will not work in US. Now you can always hear exceptions to the rule, but in the US most people wait their turn. She's never had that kind of problem in public. She is an exceptionally polite person,in public situations, but has certain Napolionic qualities at other times. I MARRIED YOSIMITE SAM!!!!!!! She is from a small town,so was just as shocked as any foreign tourist at the pushing and shoving on Beijing Bus,or cutting in front of you in "line" at the bank(a "line" in China ,Actually in ChengDu they have lines painted on the sidewalk and some places the people actually line up,and if the bus is full they wait in line for the next bus.)She is like many new Chinese wife in America, taking visa/green card information from every Asian/Mexican she bumps in to at the flea market.
  21. Nothing. (You cant tell people they are losing face, because then they will lose face again and it just keeps going round like that.) Im not joking,Im getting blamed every time a mosquito bites her. She's going to call the police and tell them "mosquitos are biting me,arrest my husband". Soon Im moving in to the shed, hang out in there with my AM radio and Kee Lawnmower, feed peanuts to the squirrels.
  22. My experience in America. No China groupies/Sinophiles allowed! Show up witha Chinese wife on your arm,you will be treated nicely, but in America I think Chinese people tend to be more private, just like Americans. (Absolutely no concept of the desire privacy or quiet time in China). As a traveler in China,I have made the closest and most "loyal" friends I have ever met in my life, and they remain in email contact regularly, for years. Though I have never "met" anyone on the internet, email has made all this possible) I can only think of a couple of Chinese people,in China, that I have actually lost contact with. Japanese people I have met traveling,or in Japan, have always rolled out the red carpet for me,but this seems to be out of an "obligation" rather than a hand toolede friendship offering. I do have a few real "friends" in Japan, but nothing compared to China. Koreans (South)? Forget about it. They will actually walk up to you in the street, kind of like people do in China, and introduce themselves. They will even invite you to tour the city or have a lunch date.Even when you feel something special about the Korean, like a real friendship contact, they just fade away eventually. They will approach you,ask to make photos together, then never even bother to email the photos to you. I have a few very close South Korean friends. The men in Korea operate on different levels,so unless they have been introduced they dont know where you fit in,so they dont invite you over to their table like Chinese will. Koreans are uptight.
  23. It really does distort them.Ive met a lot of famous people and lots of them are real short. The TV makes them look like normal sized people, but really they are small. The eye has no imagination,so you are forced to go along with the picture they are showing. Once they open their mouths things really get distorted. 2 years away from TV,then 3 month reunion with American TV,and now about 2 or 3 months free of TV!!! Radio is enough, and because I have to listen with no pictures,I can stimulate my imagination.I control horozontal.I control the vertical. The ear is the king of the kingdom of your imagination. Stop watching broadcast TV.Please. Theres NOTHING there. I dont even laugh at late night comedy anymore. (They have RUINED "Iron Chef".) I can go outside my house,I DONT EVEN have to leave my house to witness scenes more bizarre than any episode of "South Park". Bizarre TV at its finest: Green Acres, season 2,episode #44 (Oliver dreams he is awake,Lisa serves him square eggs for breakfast that the hen has laid in the kitchen, and the fun begins.) With this wretched election going on,not even C-SPAN Washington Journal is worth tuning in to.
  24. Thanks! 27 posts and 2 months later Ok,I tried that, but the computer told me I need to insert one of the two "Windows XP CD's",but I dont have them,so no go.
