  1. OK,what is the literal translation? Is the above an "Chinese Idiom". "People in hell want ice water" (I think that a bit harsh). "Gas,Grass,Cash or Ass,nobody rides for free". "You can wish in one hand and XXXX in the other, see which one fills up faster". "Don't ever sell your soul for a mess of spirit".
  2. "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" Can this be translated to Chinese? Is there an equivilent Chinese idiom?
  3. Its easy. If you send ALL the applications together, its a TOTAL of $1010. If you try to get the "EAD" alone only, and you send that application alone, then you must pay THAT seperate fee.
  4. We see homeless people, drugged out addict, mother begging with their babies near the Bart Station in San Francisco and just walk past them. If you live in San Francisco long enough, it's a common sight and most of us just walk past it now. It's not uncommon to see someone defecated against a building or urinating in the middle of the street in downtown San Francisco during busy rush hour. I was going to say that we in America have many homeless that never get any help, so to say that they would be help isn't totally true. It is true that we try to help, but not enough is done to say you would never see it in America. When I am in China I spend a lot of time "on the street". The "outdoors lifestyle" in the China city has more to offer a homeless person. You dont really have to wander very far to find the stuff you need, and there are people everywhere. In my home in Florida we have a new law,No Sleeping In Public. I think the cops arrested about 1000 people last year in my small town, for "sleeping". I ascociate USA homelessness with alcoholisim. We have these "homeless camps",a bunch of drunks, and they get upset when cops roust them. Why do these idiots group up in a camp, just to attract the attention of cops.
  5. Wow this is why this site is so great, and insightful post and an unsolicited offer of help-jim Exactly. Were not supposed to be political here,but...Jim J. for President 2008.
  6. Because when Im in China, its Mel Gibson/Tom Cruise/George Clooney they say I look like. Always one of those guys. Its not just me I bet.
  7. Thats so far in the future. Its the Ex in China (child's natural father) refusing to give permission for the child to travel to USA. Well, thats all there it to it then. I think once the Chinese lady relocates to America,or demonstrates that she is REALLY going to America, the child's father will have a change of heart and realize the opportunities available to his daughter if he allows her to travel to America. I would not push it,rather, let the Ex observe from a distance and he will probably figure it out for himself. Its not as if the daughter is an infant, she's almost an adult.

It's not uncommon to see someone defecated against a building or urinating in the middle of the street in downtown San Francisco during busy rush hour. These American style "bums" described so vividly above, crapping themselves everywhere, are rarely seen in China. I have seen "retarded" men wandering around in China city kind of homeless, but at least someone cuts a slit in their pants, like a Chinese baby's pants,so the guy can easily go #2 in the road. When I have encountered "mentally ill" or very dirty homeless in China (and Asia),sometimes they were just set by the side of the road, but the surrounding people DO look out for and supply food to these people, genuine crazy people with absolutely no skill of begging. With all of the terrible things going on in the street with beggars and exploited cripples,I think the condition in America is much more problematic. Its hard to explain that kind of photo ,of American homeless cripple,to my friends in China.
  9. It is kept out,the same way we keep religon out of politics
  10. There are actually some knock-off "2008 Bin Laden Olympics" t-shirts being sold,Ill try to find it on the internet and post a link.
  11. I found the hospitality in China to be extraordinary as well. The article seems to be unfairly critical of the Chinese people and government. Those that live in glass houses............. "Glass houses"??? Please show me an example of how to be "fairly critical" rather that "unfairly critical". Just about every shameful embarassing photo of Americans violating someones rights are AVAILABLE for everyone to see,and make their own judgment,or used to defame and destroy, but when it comes to China there is very little that gets out uncensored. Im amazed by the footage shown daily on local Chinese TV stations in China. I never saw clips of ordinary Chinese news broadcasts until I stayed in China. There is plenty of "embarassing" stuff broadcast on Chinese news, the problem is its always THE CHINESE PEOPLE who are shown on hidden camera commiting the crimes, but never the government or police. I wish Americans could see just the ordinary local news broadcasts from China, they show the real side of life in China, ordinary people and their homes and towns. Just the pictures alone paint a vivid picture of the ordinary Chinese (much like Americans describing the tornado that destroyed their mobile home "Eee-it fa-lew ova thay-ya ant ee-it layin-did on my cow".) Why not even a sliver of this stuff gets shown on American TV. (and usually the ones they do show us are of "GuangZhou man bench presses his own 47 pound toenail",or "Cops" style footage with overdubbed fake sound effects showing "Thats how they take a bite out of crime in China, and this scum bag's already gotten his fortune, and the only thing he has to look forward to now is a slow boat to a prison cell").
  12. I have followed this persons articles for the past couple of years, and he seems to have "hardened" a bit over time, but I also feel the same thing happened to me while living in China. The part I related to most in the article are the parts about putting on a fake face, but everybody else can see through it. Every place is good AND bad,but China tries to hide their bad side instead of stepping up and saying: "Yea,so what!We do that! What are you going to do about it?", like most everybody else does. One word comes up a lot when I hear Chinese describe Americans, and that word is "honest". More than once Chinese people said to me one thing they really respect about Americans is "They are honest and not afraid to express their opinion about something". There is a post here somewhere about how Chinese school teachers always REQUEST foreign teachers to "teach us some new western way of doing something" ,but after we show them they say "Wow thats great, but we cant do it that way,we must continue to do it the old way."
  13. http://www.antiwar.com/matuszak/?articleid=12313 This is much the same experience I had while living in China and my current feelings about the social condition and attitudes in China towards foreigners. (I experienced extreme hospititality when I made contacts with "ordinary" people all over China)
  14. I would have told him to buy a visa and ticket to Laos and save a lot of hassel in the long run. My friend applied for Fiance Visa for his Laos girlfriend, and she was sitting in his house in America 7 months later.
  15. But this question regarding "Florida ID Card" (Not Drivers License). She went to the bank alone and somehow opened a bank account, but later when she tried to transfer $300usd from her bank to her family in China, they refused because she has "no valid ID".Would not accept her China Passport or Expired K1 Visa,or her Expired Florida ID Card. (I have no idea what ID she used to open the bank account) I had to JOIN her bank account (making it a "joint" account)then use MY ID to send the money to China. Florida ID is needed for many things in daily life, not only employment. She used her "Entry Card/K1 Visa" to obtain her first Florida ID Card, but that one expired as soon as the 90 days was up. The people at the "ID Office" say to bring "Green Card" in order to get NEW Florida ID. This cant be accurate.
  16. Upon arrival in USA,my wife used her I-94 Entry Card to obtain a Florida ID Card, but it expired soon after receiving it,because the Entry Card expired. Then we got married and sent all the Green Card ($1010 fee) applications to "Lock Box". As of now,we have received I797C (Only for Employment Authorization Document). We went again to the "ID Office" in Florida to obtain a NEW valid Florida ID Card, but they turned us away saying "You must bring "Green Card" in order to get new ID. I think these people are confused and have VERY LITTLE experience dealing with this kind of thing. WHAT DOCUMENT do we need to present to ID Office in order to get a new Florida ID. (I asked this question to them and they just shrugged their shoulders and said "Green Card?". Pathetic!)
  17. Psst Psst Believe me,employers would be willing to hire without any documentation, but she would never accept one of THOSE kind of jobs.
  18. So I put the $1010 in the envelope, like they said (sounds crazy if you ask me)along with some photo copies,Green Card Application,Work Authorization Application,4 Page Biometrics,Oh Oh Oh and another one I cant remember now,and sent it all to the "Lock Box". The only thing I have to show for all that is: 1)I-796C,Notice Of Action (case Type: I-765 Application for Employment Authorization Document) 2)One angry unemployed Chinese wife, threatening to go pick tomatos (house keeping) with Mexicans she has met at her English class. I dont know about you guys, but my wife feels like she has been cheated out of work (work=the MONEY!) and somehow blames it all on me because...she says so? I dont even know what we are waiting for, I assume "Employment Authorization Document", to be taken to Social Security office where a SocialSecurity Card will be issued to my wife for the purposes of employment? Got the I-797C,Notice Of Action about 2 weeks ago. When does my wife start working???
  19. There are brain dead employees down an my local Division of Motor Vehicles office that have been working there for decades. I have to go there again and again over the years and deal with these people. At least we (most of us) only have to deal with these "VO" for a short period of our lives, then we forget about them when we get through the process. If we had to keep going back all our lives and see their faces over and over again, then maybe we would try to keep track of them.
  20. Best to use real Chinese caracters for sending letters to China. Have her FAX it to you,and make sure she includes the Post Code (Zip Code). Often Chinese will forget to give you their post code. After you receive the FAX,maybe you should take it to some Chinese people in your home town and have them re write it again on a clean sheet of paper. I have used this method to communicate with my Chinese friends for years. After you glue this kind of Chinese address on the elvelope, take a BLUE pen and write,in English, "CHINA" on the bottom right corner, and get a FREE strip of those blue "Air Mail" stickers at the post office and stick one of those on there too. All this to alert my mail man that THIS letter is going to China. Common problem: My Beijing friend wrote his entire Beijing address out in PinYin English (acceptable for China Post Office to deliver), but ONE letter was wrong in one word,so the package was returned undelivered.

I 485 Page 1 (Y) Questions: Q***"Current USCIS Status" Page 2 Q***"Non Immigrant Visa Number" (I assume this is the 8 digit number printed on her USA Visa) Q***"In what status did you last enter?" K-1 Fiance arrived USA September, and 90 days expires about X-Mas. WE WERE MARRIED in USA on December 07. I 765 Questions: Q***"Manner Of Last Entry" Q***"Current Immigration Status"
  23. In my case,I did not submit any proof. My parent submitted an I-134 and employment/tax documents. My parent sponsored my fiance, and my parent's name is printed on my fiance's visa.
  24. Actually, it can seldom be said to be the country's fault. In the latest toy recalls, Mattel also shares part of the blame, though, IMO, not the majority of the blame. They should never trust suppliers and need to check to make sure the products were made to specs. Ultimately what Mattel sells to American consumers is mattel's responsibility should anything happen. It isn't actually difficult for them to analyze each batch produced. Mattel should take the blame. Mattel can blame its suppliers and do whatever to penalize the suppliers if they didn't conform to Mattel's design and specified quality standard. However, Mattel is still responsible to its own customers in US. OK,so if Mattel discovers a problem, and they notify the Chinese factory of the problem, won't they be blamed of "complaining" and "pointing the finger" and playing a blame game? Even if its Mattel's fault, they should not accept any more shipments from the Chinese factory. Waiter, theres a fly in my soup.
