  1. http://www.ksrevenue.org/dmvproof.htm We have not applied for EAD yet. We were waiting to apply for EAD with AOS to save money (the EAD application is still free if done with AOS, yes?) If we file for EAD with AOS, how soon will the EAD take to get, and how long will it be for? (The main issue at the DMV is their computers won't allow an ID to be issued if it expires within 60 days, and her I-94 expires on MArch 19th..)
  2. So we went to the Kansas DMV last week, and they told us that she had all the needed info except for the filled out Marriage License. The told us to come back with the Marriage License. So we got it, and went back this week. Now they are refusing to give her a State ID because her I-94 says her date of exit is March 19th, and they can't issue a State ID for less than 60 days. As they explain it, she won't be able to get a State ID until AFTER the AOS is approved! Is that the right? What are my options here?
  3. So we applied for her Social Security 11 days after entry, and it took about three weeks to get. We recieved her SS Card the other day and immediately ran off to the courthouse for the Marriage License. In Kansas, you have to pick up the application and wait three business day to "think about it" before you can take it in for a real Marriage License. Did that yesterday, and they gave us two: one to be signed and returned for their records, and the other to be signed and used at the social security office to change her name. To obtain any additional copies of the Marriage Certificate, you have to wait "AT LEAST 3 WEEKS"! We were planning to have a small gathering and vows with our minister on Feb. 14th - Valentines Day. But if we do that, 3 weeks out means we'll be able to get a copy of the Marriage Certificate no earlier than about 10 days before her K1 expires. That just seems to be cutting it a bit close. I wonder if we can use the copy they give us for the name change at the SS Office instead, and skip any name change (she doesn't want to change her name anyway...) Any suggestions? Or should we scrap the romance and just get the paper signed and get moving...
  4. My Fiancee entered the U.S. on Dec. 19th, and handed over her paperwork to DHS at Customs. We waited until Dec. 29th to file for the Social Security at the local office. We were told at that time that DHS hadn't entered her into the system yet, so they told her they would take her SS-5 and birth certificate, hold onto it, and match it up once she was entered into the system. She was given a letter that said it would be 8 weeks until she recieved her card, but the officer said she would be get a letter in the mail in two weeks about the status. When I called today (2 weeks later) I was told that it would indeed be 8 weeks to get her SS#. Is that the normal time frame?
  5. Take copies of these, just in case someone's not aware of the K-1 policy http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...f=7&t=10720 Awesome! You 'da man! Thanks!
  6. Great, thanks! So what all does she need t take with her to the SS Office? Just the SS-5, here certified translation of her Birth Certificate, and her passport?
  7. Question # 3 on the SS-5.. As a K1, should I check: Legal Alien Allowed To Work or Legal Alien Not allowed To Work or Other. ??? Thanks!
  8. Okay, cool. Thanks. She had some money transfered into my account when she left China, but we would like to move it into an account of her own, in her name ASAP. And I assume to do so, she will need a SSN.
  9. Yes No That would be her real SSN Could you ellaborate?
  10. Similar question... I can get her a SSN and card as of NOW with her I-94, correct. At least an assigned SSN can get her to open a bank account in her name and such... Or I'm I misunderstanding something?
  11. I highly recommend this! We were just over at Wendy's the other night. It is a beautiful apartment: big and clean. Plus, Wendy is AWESOME! (Way to go Dylan! ) She is kind, fun, and knows her way around Guangzhou. And she took us to Papa Johns! (My stomach thanks you! hehe) You can't go wrong with Wendy! (Hi Wendy! )
  12. Three hours of hell in the coffee shop, and then this smiling face came around the corner!!!! I have to thank all of you for you help! We are finally going home TOGETHER!!!!
  13. We went back to the hospital today to take the paperwork and pick up the forms.... And the evil woman behind the counter would not take the online forms. She said if she took them the Consulate would come back on her for allowing the wrong forms. Crazy woman. We eventually got her to just give us the medical exam papers sealed in the brown envelope, and left. Hopefully this will be okay. Her main complaint was that the forms I printed were not double-sided, like the ones they sent my fiancee in the mail. Whatever. That, and the GIV-24 was 4 papers instead one paper, double-sided, folded in half. But all the boxes and wording were identical. Crossing my fingers....
  14. UPDATE: We have been staying in one of the Yang's apartments for two days now, and I must say it is great. Certainly not a 5 star hotel, but comfortable beds, two bedroms, a kitchen and a bathroom - with HOT WATER in the shower! I am VERY happy with the experience. Mr. Yang has been very nice to myself and my fiancee. He has helped us print some papers on his computer, and he even took my Huixian to the hospital the first day before I arrived. All in all, it has helped relieve a great deal of tension from an already stressful situation. I am very glad we chose to stay here. Oh - and nothing has come up missing from our room, and we have two laptops and other electonics left here. I am really, REALLY thankful for the recommendation to stay here. I would suggest it to anyone and everyone else. THANK YOU MR. YANG!!!!
  15. Nope, it is a pre printed card issued by DHS, and each card has a unique number on it, you just need to wait until you get one on the flight over, or in airport before seeing the POE officer, when entering the US of A. Cool. Just checking. Thanks!
  16. Thanks. Do I need to download this and have her fill it out? And do I need it filled out and ready to go for the interview?
  17. I-94? What is this? And should I have one? This is the first I have heard / read about an I-94....
  18. I have a room reserved with the Yangs the next couple weeks. I have not been there yet, but my fiancee arrived last night and she is very happy. She said that the rooms were a little small, and that the bathroom was a little small, but the beds are alright, and there is a small kitchen - plus the room has internet and she has been surfing the web since she arrived. Certainly not a 5-star hotel, but we have stayed in much rattier places in Beijing - and paid more money! It sounds like a reasonable place - nothing spectacular or outstanding, and not just a room, but a livable apartment at a very cheap price - something like $30 USD a night. But mainly it seems that the real draw is the Yang's themselves and the atmosphere: My fiancee just arrived last night, and Mr. Yang was very helpful right off the bat. She said he is taking her to the Medical Exam himself first thing in the morning. And she has already met some other girls who passed their visa's and is learning about the process from their experiences. Again, I haven't been there yet, but as I always tell my girl, "All I need is a bed, a toilet, and you next to me, and I'll be happy."
  19. Ah... See, now we're getting somewhere! Thanks, Dylan!! So I just pay the fee at Citic, then the fee at the Medical Exam, and then a Post Office fee at or after the Interview. Is that it? Or should I be expecting something else..?
  20. See my confusion? dnoblett didn't pay a cent at the interview, just the post office fee afterward. while valenbb payed $400 USD at the interview. Hence my dilemma. I suppose I could just make sure she has plenty of cash on hand, but I would like to be prepared if possible. Is it the K1 / CR1 difference? Is there a rule here? Some rhyme or reason?
  21. Does my SO need to take cash with her to the Interview? I know we pay the Visa Interview fee at Citic, and them pay the medical fee... But I thought I read somewhere that there is also a fee at the Interview... is that true. And how much is it? In fact, is there a fee / payment breakdown that anyone can give me of what we pay when and where?? Thanks!
  22. This is just TOO COOL!!! Awesome awesome!
