  1. 1. About the reasons why some Chinese people want to come to America: A.People in China think America is a paradise( thanks to the media, who said we dont have the freedom of media?) And those people will soon be disappointed by what real America is. Actually, it is not only America. I have been to Britian, France, Italy( I went to a college in Britian)... all the dreaming countries. But to me, they are all very old, depressing countries, very differnt than what you think they are before you really go there. B.Some people think America is a country of freedom where you can do whatever you want.( a lot of people stay in the same companies and it is hard for them to change jobs in China, they think America will help them realise their dreams, but actually, it is even harder in America, because the easy_found jobs are mostly low_paid, physical__related ones). C.Some people want to come to America to make money.( Because of the currence exchange rate, you make one dollar, it becomes 7 yuan) D. Others want to come to America for medical treatment.( America does have better technologies in medication). 2.About China blocks some media, I have been in America for three years, and I dont find much new that I didnt know when I was in China. The only thing makes me feel a little surprised is the people practising Fa Lun Gong standing by the roadside protesting. But I always have a wonder: if they want to practise Fa Lun Gong, just stay at home practise it, what is the point of protesting on the street? Some bad Chinese will betray their country just to get a greencard of America. So next time, when you heard a Chinese telling you about how bad China is, ignore him. 100% sure he is a liar, or to attract your attention, because he needs the greencard.
  2. Iam so sure, but I think Hu Ko doesnt work in the consulate. Your wife has to go to a notary office to get a birth certificate.
  3. You can do it in the Chinese consulate. I dont kwon where you live, you can check it up on internet and find out the nearest one to you.
  4. Lao Po is an old fashioned way of calling the wife, like the generations of our fathers', they called their wives Lao Po, but it doesnt necessairly mean old woman. Qi Zi is the correct Pin Yin for wife. But a lot of Americans cant pronounce Qi, so they change any sound with Q into Ch, to make it easier for Americans.

This isn't Sunshine Mountain, or Happy Chinese Funland board. It's a serious issue, and most of being involved with Chinese family members have some concern about. Talk is talk... nothing more. I do know China blocks some bad media, or other junks...Simply because they are using the media as a tool to attack, while chinese government want to boost up the morale of their people. Talking about big brothers, every country has their own share.
  7. Well said. This kind of argument has been going on CFL over and over again. It will all come to a point where everyone wants to show the others a little real color. Topics like that shouldnt have arosed any interest from the mature adults like us. Second, if I were the president of China, I would guarantee every one the kind of freedom they ask for. But What would that do to a country of 1.2 billion? Would that freedom turn into valuables in the short/long run? Is it the freedom that makes America the No1 power in the world? If so, then what's now? We are in the worse recession in history, is it because we take the freedom away from people? Questions like that should be discussed, which may have some value to China. As far as I know, China does block something from other countries. But if they are junks, I dont see why not.

Of course there are. Just as there are everywhere. But John's post carried an implication that it was institutionalized and/or epidemic in that it made our country hypocritical to "bash" other countries on human rights (which was off topic and out of left field anyway). That I wholeheartedly deny, and I am sorry if your experience has been a negative one with regards to racism, there is no excusing it. But I hold a firm belief that the majority of Americans will judge you by your actions and personality before they judge you by your race. Dont always pick on a country just because it has a different system than yours. It is very immature. I don't think I picked on anyone. Besides... lil' ol me can pick on a country of 1.2 billion? Even I'm not that egomaniacal. Just opinions tis all... in this thread it was a Chinese treastie on Democracy anyway... were they picking on themselves? Then leave the Chinese alone. Dont get involved.
  9. If America is a country with freedom of speech, how come we dont have freedom of speech in CFL? A lot of our SOs consider CFL as a window through which they see and understand America.

  12. In a country where one race think they are more prestigious than the others, the government doesnt have a right to bash other countries about human rights. I think most of the members know exactly what I am talking about after their SO experience all the hardship of going through all the visa process, applying for jobs.....end of argument.

Like yours and hers my evidence is anecdotal, unless one of us has some form of omnipotence. I will forward that most of that sort of information comes from my wife. So that "my wife says _____ and she's a really for real Chinese person, so it's true." argument is as BS as if you or I expected that our experience as Americans summed up total irrefutable knowledge of America. So spare me. The thread started out about an very interesting paper written by Chinese people. Why mentioning democracy and China in the same paragraph always devolves into an argument about who has the biggest cock, I will never know. My wife says, "if it was posted, then we the Chinese have the freedom of speech" and she will NEVER agree with you on this subject.

  15. I agree with you in many ways Jin...The infrastructure in China is superior in airports, railroads, etc....And the US does control a lot of what people do here BUT... And in my reading of what goes on in China I can confidently say that Chinese people possess NONE of the rights in our own Bill of Rights... you maybe can tell that to the man (family) in Denver police shoot dead in his home, when police raided wrong house and said they believe can of beer looked looked like gun. warrent was for other house. kill him sitting in chair, us press say oh simple mistake, no police arrested. also i rember seeing army in usa shot students and black people if they gather for protests and usa has jail in cuba without any rights for prisoners, correct ? Yes, quite correct. The US has a long history of abuse and corruption, and has developed very clever means of excusing the behavior. The poor of America are the forgotten people for the richest economy in the world; the rich standing will be surpassed by the rapidly emerging Chinese economy very soon. Personally, I've always felt more safe in China than I ever did in the US. Yes, you are quite right about that. My wife and step daughter feel much safer in China then they do here in America. When I was in China I felt very safe as well.

  17. First thing, there was 60 to 75 mile an hour winds, that hurt both teams. Second, I agree with you about Dick Jauron, I didn't like him when the Bills hired him and I still don't like him. This was a bad move from the start. I see today already the Jets, Lions, and Browns are looking for new coaches, hopefully the Bills will be too!!
