  1. Good luck Michael, I know it will all work ot for you. Robert
  2. I've come through LAX three times in the last year from international flights and this corresponds with my experiences there. Meet her as she leaves after customs and the two of you can go to your next flight. I guess it's too late to counsel this, but I also agree with a previous poster who suggested you spend the night at one of the hotels near LAX (about $75) and go home the next day. Leaving LAX at 11pm? And you're flying to Georgia? I guess you'll be on the airplane all night... tough way to be introduced to the US. The last time I came back from China, I got into LAX about 6pm and (thankfully) it was too late to catch a plane to Austin. I spent the night nearby (free shuttle to and from) and flew home the next morning; much more sane experience IMO, and I think it helped lessen my jet lag, as well. Yea......well......looking back that would have been a really good idea. Too late now though . We were not really thinking about all that....just her getting here. Not only will she be on a flight all day and night...so will I........sort of. I will leave my house at 8am March 7th to get to Airport for my flight. I land in LA at about 1:30 and her flight does not get there until 5:50 and then she has to go thru Immigration and customs. Then we get on a flight that lands in Atlanta at 6am and then...........................we have a 2 hour drive home that will be worse due to Monday Morning traffic that is worse than LA. Yes Atlanta traffic is that bad Kind of poor planning....we will do better next time. Atleast we will be able to sleep most of the day on Monday I did tell her that we need to wake up about 2 and then go back to bed at dark. Better to try to sleep when dark outside and stay awake in sunlight. So when will you have time for sleep? Time for sleep? He is not going to have energy for much else either. Well sheet, Robert is a Jawja boy! He can find the energy. We should get together after she settles in a little. Maybe your wife could give her some ideas of what life is like here

  4. I look for the deals first, too. However I am a bit gun shy about ordering things over the internet for fear of "shady" suppliers. I have a tendency to go for a bit higher price if the seller has a good reputation. I just ordered the Windows 7 HP 32 bit OEM from buyer.com and paid through Amazon. Total price was $105.00. I did see prices at $99.00 from others I did not recognize. Is it possible to buy another license if I do decide I want to put it on another computer? Your not supposed to with the OEM version.....but I know some people who do it
  5. No, I have skype. This was another program. I tried majic jack before and did not care much for it

  7. Congrats. Keep us posted on how things go
  8. I have been looking but can not find it in the forums. I know I read it here before. I seem to remmeber someone talking about software for the computer that would allow you to call China free....or almost free to any cell phone or home phone, and you could get a chinese phone number for your computer that would allow your family to call you like it was local. Anyone know about this????? I hope I was not just dreaming

  10. Robert, do you know if this OEM version can be used to reformat if I want to do it again at a later date or just in case I need to reinstall it again if the computer crashes? It comes with one license. I am using OEM now and have had to re-install 2 times due to me tinkering with my PC I have not had trouble re activating it. A buddy of mine has done it several times and once had to call MS for activation and he just told that his hard drive crashed and they gave him new activation number
  11. The full version of Windows 7 normally will allow you to have your full choice of upgrade, install a new version on existing partition or format your hard drive and start over. I just upgraded both of my computers to Windows 7 Ultimate. In the past you use to have to buy upgrade to do the 1st option as full would not allow you to upgrade. Either way you are looking for the Full Version. Yep, gotta have the full version. I have read reports of many problems people have been having trying to upgrade Vista to 7. As bad as my Vista is, it is certain that I will have trouble. Since I build my own computers I always buy the OEM version. How often do you ever have to call Microsoft???? you can find most answers to your questions somewhere on the internet and it does not cost like calling MS.
  12. Thanks Sam. good read. i am a member of VJ but very seldom ever read it
  13. So if I read this correctly. After she goes thru customs i can meet her in the International terminal and then we can go together to gate 5 for our Delta flight? I used to hate Atlanta's airport........I am starting to like it a lot more these days
  14. LAX is laid out beautifully for cars delivering and picking up departing and arriving passengers. But, for the traveler it can really suck. You'll notice from the MAP that domestic flight terminals are not connected with Tom Bradley International, unlike other, more modern airports that are under one roof and have golf carts or people movers) that will wiz you from one terminal to another. The problem at LAX is that after arriving at either a domestic terminal or TBI you must walk outside on the sidewalk dragging all of your luggage (you're not allowed to take a cart) for city blocks exposed to the weather. Not to mention that you arrive on the lower level and depart on the upper level. If you're carrying a lot of luggage you can't use the escalators and the few elevators are slow and crowded. I've done all this is the rain. And, I've done it walking (guessing) in the wrong direction too many times. And, I live in LA. Be sure to have your route mapped out for where you are going (where your connecting terminal is) after you land. And, hope like hell that you gave yourself enough time to make your connection. She lands at 5:50pm and our connecting flight is at 10:55pm. I hope that is enough. I am not even sure how to begine to tell her what to do as I have never been there. I can look at maps all day long but without seeing the real thing....it is hard. Robert
  15. I just talekd to my Na and she had lanterns in her bedroom and all over the house. I guess this is what our house will look like next year
  16. I know here in Atlanta it takes about 1.5 to 2 hours sometimes
  17. My SO will be coming to the US on March 7th. She will be going to LA for her POE. I only have knowledge of Newark and Atlanta as far as POE. Even though I will meet her in LA....I know I will not be able to meet her before Immigration and Customs. Does anyone have experiance with LAX as a point of entry? My questions are this: 1. What do you do with your lugage after customs? Some airports make you collect it at baggage claim and then go to check in for you connecting flight. other's like Atlanta have 2 moving belts...one for connecting flights and one for baggage claim. I want to be able to give her a heads up . 2. Where will I be able to meet her after she gets thru with the above? will I have to wait until she gets to the gate....or wil I be able to meet her sooner? As you can see I have never been to LAX and there website sucks for good info
  18. I went thru Newark when I went to China last year. The flight there was ok but I thought the people at Immigration and customs were very rude....and I am a USC. I thought to myself that I would never put Na thru that so that is why she is going thru LA on her trip here.
  19. I bought the ticket today for Na. WE chose the $861.00 flight from Changsha to Atlanta that goes thru GUZ and LA. I will meet her in LA. She is happy about this so now all that is left is getting her packed after CNY and waiting until March 7th Robert
  20. I agree, and this is something that you should think about. She moved half way around the world to be with you so if she does not like it there because of cold, you should be willing to move somewhere more appealing to her.
  21. I agree with Sam on this......and Carl. My SO got her visa in December and is still not here. Her Father wanted her to stay for Chinese New Year and I agreed. Some days she seems real excited and other days she does not. Remember....she has alot on her mind and a very big change in lifestly comming. I have learned that the reason my SO does not seem so excited sometimes is because she is spending time with family. That is very important to her. I do not think yo really have anything to worry about......just continue to show your love for her now and in the future.
  22. Does anyone know what Delta charges for bags? If I read correctly she can have 2 checked bags 50 punds or under for free. What about carry on???
  23. I have looked at Delta's web site and can not find a NON stop flight to atlanta from Beijing or Shanghie. I did find one that has a hour and a half layover in Tokyo. What do they do for 1 hour???? Is there much chance of her getting lost....I know they need to change planes to make it to Atlanta
  24. I am not finding much on Flychina.com. Can anyone offer another site to look at?
