  1. You also need to delay your wife's AOS while her daughter is processed. I had filed my wifes AOS when we found out that her ex would allow her daughter to come to the U.S. I was not able to get the paperwork in before my wife had her AOS interview scheduled and her AOS approved. Once that happened her daughter could no longer follow on K-2 and I had to file an I-130 for her.
  2. We have two computers, one with XP and the other with Vista. My wife has downloaded some Chinese stock market ticker programs. Some of the Chinese characters show up correctly but there are some Chinese characters that do not display correctly. Is there a way to get them to display as they should?
  3. I lived just outside Norris, TN from mid 1984 to early 1990. Weather was generally pleasant during the winter. However, I remember one winter it got cold enough to kill most of the shrubs planted around my house. Also had 14 inches of snow in an unusual snowstorm. Also had one ice storm and had to leave my vehicle parked about a half mile from home since I could not get up the hill. I now live in Las Cruces, NM. Overnight low about 29 and high today of just under 60. Not that I am rubbing it in
  4. Neither my wife or daughter will drink water from the tap. I tried for a while to get them to understand that there was no problem with the water. I finally gave it up.
  5. One of the flaws in the arguments here is to talk about rule of law. Every country on earth, that I am aware of, has a rule of law. Their rule of law may differ from ours, or the country next door. But every dictatorship, democracy, etc. has laws for its citizens to follow. How just any law is can be debated ad infinitum. Secondly, to say that because there is looting after a natural disaster, there is no rule of law, is inane. Those who may be in jail because they were caught looting would beg to differ. There may be a breakdown in society for short periods of time but law will almost always win out. It does not just happen in America. Thirdly, are there flaws in the laws in America? In most peoples opinions yes. But there can be a number of differences from person to person as to what those flaws are. One thing about the system though is that there are a number of opportunities to make appeals to right a wrong. Does it work 100% of the time? No, but name one country where it does. America allows citizens to mount protests in mass. One person here believes that this is extreme. However, I think most people who were around when the civil rights protests were going on would disagree. When protests become violent then they have probably gone to far. But to just disrupt traffic or inconvenience people is a small price to get society to change the way it thinks. I work for the Federal government and am sworn to uphold it. That does not mean that I have to agree with everything it does. I have no problem pointing out when it fails to hold up its end of the bargain it has with the American people (read the constitution and bill of rights). It is a guaranteed right that we should all exercise when possible. There were a number of things done wrong after Katrina. But I know for a fact that there was a large response by low level government employees to go to the are to help. Jin stated in an early post that she had seen racism in America. Yep, it exists. The Chinese were not treated very well in the past. We have a history of racism against people of differing colors. We also have a history of treating people of various nationalities, who are the same color, poorly. For the most part though we have come a long way. I am white/native american married to a Chinese lady. We will soon have a mixed race president freely elected by the people. Is this a great country or what? Every country has its racists, that includes China. There were a couple of times that my wife and I were subjected to derogatory comments in Chongqing and Beijing. They were not happy that a Chinese woman was with a white man. Their problem. Not ours! China has come a long way from Mao. It will probably continue to make progress. What type of government that may result in is anyones guess. As long it is one chosen by the Chinese people is all that is important.
  6. "Part of the reason the government of 1.4+ billion people -- the vast majority of them poor, uneducated farmers -- maintains a tight control (though not as tight as before) is because they want little to incite another revolution. Even a lobotomy wouldn't help anybody here who thinks that China -- or the world even -- would be better off if China suffered a Soviet Union style collapse or fell victim to another revolution." I am not so sure that Chairman Mao, if he were still alive, would wholeheartedly agree with this. Although he seemed to believe more in a guided revolution.
  7. I guess if you believe that there is only an American style of democracy denoted in this pole then I can see the argument here. However, democracy can take many forms and China would not have to take on the form that the U.S. has. And I guess in the end you would not even need to have a democracy to have liberties and rule of law favorable for people to live by. No, I don't believe that democracy should be forced on every country. Each government has the right to screw it's citizens over however they see fit. It is up to the citizens to change that. Humankind unfortunately has a long way to go before the world becomes a garden of eden, and not in a religious sense.
  8. We submitted copies of whatever evidence we thought would be of use. Then we took it, as well as anything which might of happened between filing and the interview, with us to the interview as well.
  9. Checked my wife's today. Last November it went from transferred to, to received for processing. Still the same this morning. Removal of conditions submitted to TX - May 2008 Biometrics - June 08 Transferred from TX to Vermont - July 08 Note that it stayed in the transferred to status from July to November. Must have gone by a very slow and circuitous route from TX to VT. I never did receive anything in the mail about the transfer. I am hopeful that it will say production ordered no later than mid March.
  10. Don't be surprised if your paperwork gets transferred to another service center for processing. Ours did. Biometrics was fast but it appears that we are on a slow boat to China waiting for the card.
  11. Glad to hear that you got the card. We submitted for my wife's removal of conditions in May 2008. It was transferred from TX to Vermont. Her biometrics were in June. Based on your time it looks like we will be waiting another 2-3 months. We will hit the 4 year mark for being married in January. Would be a nice anniversary present if the card came.
  12. Han Mee Grocery 9543 Dyer Street El Paso, TX Mainly Korean but carries Sushi Rice and some other Japanese staples. New Korean market has opened just down the road from Han Mee but have not had an opportunity to see what it is like yet.
  13. Wan Jia Le Supermarket 9501 Gateway West El Paso, TX 79925 Oriental Import, Inc. 9101 Gateway West
  14. Federal government offices are open on November 4th. I work for the Federal government so I am sure on this. Some State and local governments close but not the Fed's.
  15. QUOTE(Li & John @ Oct 19 2008, 08:16 AM) Again, I just stated that not everyone likes Clasical music. Some times it is all in the presentation. Handel's - Messiah Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody Moody Blues - Days of Future Pased Carlos Nikai - Native American Flute And the list goes on and on.
  16. I am an American. I like classical music a lot. But then I like a lot of different types of music as well. I have a CD juke box that holds 100 CD's. They range from Beethoven, Pavarati, Crosby, Stills and Nash, American Fiddle, Jazz by Keiko Matsui, Moody Blues, Native American and others. I like to listen to the Chinese musicians that my wife likes as well. Passion in music varies for everyone. Some are very narrow minded about what they like, some are not. Usually this reflects on how they are with life and other things in general.
  17. It has been four months (May) since we applied for my wife's 10 year card. She had her biometrics completed in June. Have not heard anything since then. Originally filed with TX but were transferred to VT. Hoping that we hear something before very much longer.
  18. Just took my stepdaughter to an orthodontist this past week for an evaluation of her teeth. The guy is very well thought of here in Las Cruces. His office is an amazing place. After the evaluation I found out why he could afford such an office. If you have a kid who can get through school for this career they will do very well.
  19. "Personally I'm getting pretty sick of the American arrogance, especially the Russian-American arrogance, that claims everyone cheated as an explanation for them not earning the Gold, but you'll notice the coach and commentator husband have everything to lose if American parents think they can't produce Gold medal winners at their Texas training camp." Bella was actually born in Romania, not Russia. I guess if I was one of the men who competed in the floor exercises and scored under a 15 for not sticking the landing after having an otherwise terrific routine, and then saw a woman land on her knees in a vault and still score well over 15 I would wonder if there was a bias.
  20. I brought my stepdaughter here after my wife was already here. Her father would not originally give his permission but subsequently changed his mind. I filed the I-130 in August of 2006 and she entered the country on Sept. 8, 2007. I had her father provide a notarized letter stating that he would let her come to America. I wrote the letter in English, my wife translated it into Chinese and we sent it to him. He then used that as a template in China and had it notarized/translated from Chinese to English there and sent it back to us. Your wife does not have to go to court to get custody. Just the letter will suffice. My wife did go back to China to be with her daughter for the interview and then brought here. All in all I thought bringing our daughter here wenteasier than brining my wife over. You definitely want to get translated/notarized school transcripts to bring here for school. We did not do this for our daughter and she has to spend more time in school before she can graduate.
  21. It is interesting to see how they are shuffling the applications around between offices. My wife's I-751 went from TX to Vermont in May, at least according to the online check. Biometrics has been completed since 6/17. Nothing updated yet online and the dtae they show they are working on is not encouraging.
  22. Actually I prefer that they keep the drugs out of the country at the border. I never said that I believe we should be building a physical barrier to keep people out. I just believe that there should be a regulated flow of people into the country according to the laws currently in place. If they pass a law to make it easier to enter then I am for that as well. Hopefully it would be one that benefitted the members here as well. Huh, I have read many books that do talk about what has happened in this country as far as taking lands from other peoples and countries. Sure some books gloss over things but others are not so kind to how we have treated others. Maybe there are too many "fat and lazy" Americans who do not take the time to read. Oh, and Mexico did not really own anything by your definition as the Spanish were illegals who rested Mexico from the Aztecs. And I guess my all time favorite expression about illegals is "they are just trying to make a better living for themselves by coming to this country." What about staying in their own countries and making them better places to live. Most of their countries have the resources to do so but their governments are so corrupt or inept that they remain in poverty. People everywhere need to hold their governments accountable and try to make their countries better places to live. Oh, and lastly I am part Native American and German by birth. I recognize cultural diversity in America. It is a great thing.
  23. "The only thing I can decide is how tax dollars are being spent to pay lazy workers who have nothing better to do than spend their lives between the boarder of USA and Mexico trying to catch "illegal immigrants" from crossing the border. Now that's what I call a waste of tax dollars. " I assume you are referring to the Border Patrol Agents. I work for another Federal Agency but deal with a number of members of the Border Patrol. I don't see many of them that are fat or lazy. You seem to forget that they are not only there to keep out illegal immigrants. They are also there to keep out drugs and undesirable people who peddle those drugs and have no problem killing innocent people. Also, there are any number of illegals entering the country who were not model citizens in their own country. Don't know that I want those people here either. The job they perform is dangerous at times and unfortunately necessary. Not all illegals pay taxes and some of the companies that hire them under the table are not paying taxes either. In addition, there have been any number of American citizens who have run afowl of the IRS because their SSN is being used by more than one illegal. As to being against illegal immigrants, most of us here only want these people to enter the country legally. If congress wants to open the borders to allow anyone who wants to enter the country to come in without paperwork, fine. However, I had to follow the law to get my wife and daughter here and that is all I want from others.
  24. Just checked online this morning to see what the status was for the I-751 we filed to remove conditions on my wife. It said that they had transferred it from Texas to the Vermont Service Center. I had to laugh as they said it was transferred on May 22nd and that they had mailed notification when it was done. So far we have received two I-797Cs for this action. One was to state that the application had been received and the other for the biometrics appointment which we had on June 17th. Both of those were sent out on May 29th and came from TX. Of course as long as things keep moving it does not really matter where it is at. Still hoping to get the 10 year card without another interview.
  25. My wife has her own account and we also have a joint account. She contributes one of her paychecks a month to the joint account. I handle all of the bills but have tried to make sure she understands what bills we have.
