  1. http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10002.html#types People with Green Cards and Citizens get the unrestricted one. People with K-1 visa and EAD get the one with VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION.¡± K-1 holders are considered to be work authorized by the SSA for the 90 days of their I-94 card, and K-1 holders may get an EAD stamp at JFK POE, other wise the disclaimer indicates that the person needs EAD for the SS card to be valid. They are correct in issuing the card with the disclaimer, you need to apply for EAD when you adjust status if you want to work while waiting for green card. After you get green card you can go to the SSA and have that disclaimer removed. And if you naturalize and become a citizen, you need to inform SSA of this change in status, and they will note that in their system. Useful links: https://s044a90.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/36f...b4?OpenDocument http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...om&page=ssn http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=k1k3ead this is very anonying. 1. my card was issued without EAD. I barely showed them my passport and I94. 2.Even within the 90 days of your intry to the U.S. who is gonna employ you if you have a ssn card with "valid for work only with DHS athorization"?? while you dont have EAD. 3. that is very strange logic that you are considered as "allow to work with no restriction" yet they give you a card say "valid for work with DHS athorization".. what's going on?
  2. You got one, guy. If it were NOT authorized for work, you would have been required to show that an SSN was required by some government agency. You can remove the restriction when you get your green card. What do you mean exactly? I can work or not?
  3. Do you have your EAD card or the I-551 stamp? You do not need any of them to be eligible for a "Valid for work" SSN. please see thread: http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...f=7&t=10720 I've called the SSN many times and went to their office in person. I showed them all the ruling they have and they did agree with me that a K1 visa should be issed a "valid for work" visa. They just dont want to admit that they made a mistake and there's a dismatch between they system they use to issue cards and they policy they have.
  4. they issued me a "valid for work only with DHS athorization" SSN. When I went to talk to them they said "you are free to work with no obligations however we just issue this type of card to all K1 visa holder" I am really mad. Are they telling me that I can just ignore what's on the SSN and go ahead right to work? I was a K1 visa holder when I applied for SSN 10 days after entered America. Anybody has a clue??
  5. Here in Kentucky. to apply for a instruction permit you only need SS number, Passport with i94 and a residence address prof like a letter to your name. and with a drivers permit and passport you can apply for driver's lience. no need EAD or Green card at all
  6. when i entered the POE 1 week ago nobody asked for the xray. i throwed it into rubbish bin recently.
  7. how do you SOs find a job? K1->SSN->Marriage Licence->Marriage certificate->blue form for driver permit->driver permit->driver licence->job I'm in Louisville, KY
  8. Hi, I have got the K1 visa on my passport. Do I need any other document to leave China at border? I heard they require all immigrants to cancel their "residence registration" (Hukou) in China first and then issue them a card called " Chu Jing Ka" which says this person is allowed to leave China legally. Anybody know whether they still require it? thanks,
  9. Alex, Uh oh, I think you have just given up some valuable information on yourself and knowing that you live in Guangzhou and are willing to help others,.....I now foresee a flood of requests coming your way! You are a good man to offer such help. Way to go! I'm leaving guangzhou for the U.S. this October and just wish to do my best to help CLF as I have learnt a lot here.
  10. that was the yang man who interviewed me. I think the interview i had was objective and professional which shows he's been very well trained for his job. the problem i can think of for your SO's interview is: bad communication with the VO. I noticed on the wall of the consulate interview hall, there's a painting says "I can tell the truth from a lie". It's difficult to lie...Like Leefisher said, search your heart and soul again ask yourself do you really love this woman and does she really love you. do you really want to live with this woman for the rest of your life or you would see in your imagination she would be a passager in your life journey? if all answers are yes you should come back to the guangzhou consulate, stand outside the building and yell out aloud they have made a mistake, ...you go there every morning and they (the VOs and their boss) will see you...you do this everyday no stop untill they call you in for details and then you tell them again they made a mistake. if you can do this itself proves your love for your SO and they will give you a visa. ALex
  11. I got the visa today and found it has "PETR" at the bottom of visa under "Annotation". Anyone know what it stand for? Is it short for "Petitioner"? currently it put my Co-sponsor's name there and I think it's Wrong. If it's wrong spelling, would it be a big problem entering the U.S.? How do I get it Changed? How long it takes? Thanks, Alex
  12. I went to the interview this morning and got the red slip after interview. it was simple and fast, only about 3 minutes. My experience is that no need to be nervious if the relationship is real and all documents are ready. simply answer VO based on the fact and he will let you pass. thanks all for your help. Alex
  13. I sent the consulate an email and here is their reply: Your fiancee should prepare an I134 regardless how much income she has. If she lives in Guangzhou, she can has this document notarized at the U.S. Citizen Services in the U.S. Consulate General, Guangzhou.
  14. I believe the VO will follow the guidance of 9FAM and use the "totality" of the circumstances; look at the beneficiary's health, education, and employment history... as well as the documentary proof from the petitioner. But my gut says that the documentary proof, if evidencing sustainable income into the future, is usually enough proof to a VO. Most petitioners (and if we stick to those on this site) are not going to consider going to chinatown to get an I-134... The idea is almost ludicrous, particularly if the petitioner has as decent job... Clearly here is where "totality" of petitioner is needed. And the fact that a I-134 is not truly required is why we recommend people bring their taxes and employer letter... I'm hoping the VO is smart enough to ask for more than one document if he suspects something is from chinatown... 230350[/snapback] My gf's brother asked his antoney prepared a I-134. But his antoney mistakenly put the "relationship to the beneficial" as "friend". Is that a big problem? Can he change it when sign it or I change it when I got it? I think it should be "Brother of his fiance'". right? thanks.
  15. I just had my Med Exam this morning at the the first hospital of guangzhou medical college. it was so quick and simple. about 30 minutes only. the staff there will give you a checklist of things you need to bring to them when you go there to pick up results after the med exam. before you going to take the med exam you will need to take: 600 Yuan 3 photos Passport Interview Appointment letter FYI
  16. I just realized things has changed a lot and based on info I have collected the information is no longer valid so I have deleted.
  17. My employer sent me to the Guangdong Center of Health and Vacination for International Travel(Tian He Branch)for the Med check this morning and I will have to do another med check in this company again(Sha Mian Branch) for my K1 Visa. It really annoys me when I called them early and explained the situation" I need to take take the Med check for immigration and job the same time and can they be conbined and they simply answered "that's not possible". I dont know why but to me it's just another example of bureacy common sick that almost all chinese companies/gov bodies have. Left hand don't credit right hand's rusult? give me a break? Shoot, i just have to do the med check again next week..oh..X-ray twice in 1 week? I hate itiiititit!
  18. there are just too many hotels in GZ. dont stick to some only one. anyone need information i'd happy to assisit. I'm working and living in GZ. Most of the chinese immig agencies, consultants in the Tian Yu Building are not worthy trying...believe it or not. they do whatever to make money and have no clue of customer service at all.
  19. so lucky I'm living and working in GZ. no need to make any travel arrangement. While you in GZ dont forget to take a tour to see the city. The Chin Loong Advanture World is a good place if you like Roller Coster Car or so. It has a very long and scaring Roller coster..
  20. I had a cat who is one year old now. maybe i should find her a fiancee in the US and file a 129f? :)It's gonna break my heart to leave her in china. nobody's gonna look after her anymore. who wants a beautiful and extremely smart while cat?
  21. Once again, the ultimate goal for a VO is to find out whether the beneficial has ability to make a living in the US and will not be a public burden. Put you into the consul general’s shoes, do you want your VO simply performing tasks like checking documents or do you want your VO be smarter and know why he need to check the documents? I believe documents is only one of the evidences to convince a VO and it should be the least important one. Why? Because I can get an I-134 just for 500 bucks in Chinatown easily and it really means nothing. At the last, I have a great job here in Guangzhou and opportunities are just unlimited. To be honest I’m not that keen to go to the states. I have to go because my gf is an American and she couldn’t find a decent job because she is an American! [Chinese employer needs to get an “expert importing permit” to hire a foreigner, again documents!] Alex
  22. Thanks all. I'm gonna try it first anyway as my GF is at Guangzhou now with me and there's not enough time for her to find a co-sponsor. I'll go to New York on Feb 07 if I get a visa. If anybody need help in Guangzhou please contact me I might be able to provide some assistance;) Alex
  23. Hi, I'm working in a consulate in GZ and applying for a K1. I got my interview date to Aug. The problem is that my girlfriend cannot provide the affidavit of support as her income is insufficient. I got a good pay job right after university and I can speak English well. I’m sure I won’t become a burden to American government and I will be able to find a job pretty easily in the States. My gf said we can buy an “affidavit of support” for 500USD easily from Chinatown but I didn’t do so. I mean what’s the point. I work in the consulate too and I understand the ultimate goal for the visa officers is not to check the forms but assessing whether the applicant is qualified in reality. Right? So my question is: Is the affidavit of support form compulsory for passing the interview? Has anyone done so before? Please give me some advice. Thanks, Alex
  24. I have finally got my P4(K1) this moring. the procedure is just too long and really need a reform. I have asked to fill 3 times of my personal information. why can't only once?? I think K1/3 should do e-filing application too.
