1. We are doing the K-1 thing.

Just had a great "Joyous Celebration" with my SO's family.  We will return to the US for our formal wedding to make it all legal.

My SO just asked me: is there anything else she needs for entry into the US?

    Me:

I figured, she needs the tickets, her passport, and the visa.  She'll need the certified paperwork for Permanent Resident follow-on stuff, so of course we'll bring that stuff, too.  But as far as I understand it, there's nothing else she needs specifically for the trip.

Still, I've been wrong/stupid on things before this, so I wanted to check with my buds here: Is there anything else she needs to enter the US besides her Visa packet from GUZ, her passport, and her plane ticket?

    229917

    Dude,

    Don't forget to bring:

    1) proof of vaccination i.e. the Yellow Book

    (see http://tinyurl.com/es456)

Useful for the AOS and medical coverage

    2) notarized and translated university transcript and diploma/degrees

    3) several passport size photos (it's cheaper to get it from China)

    Best wishes :D

  2. Thanks everyone for the advice. My wife and I really appreciate it. We will do as everyone suggests....and buy plenty of mouthwash.  We do feel like we are very lucky that so far...our case has stayed in Guz. Hopefully the next time my wife goes to Guz to give them the overcome papers....will be the last time.

But I do have one question on her non-membership in the CCP. She has got to write a statement about that. And her last employer has stated that he would also write a statement. Who  else could she get to write a statement? Her family? Her friends? Some of her friends are members of the CCP.

    229831

    Dude,

Just don't take it personally. They're not worth it.

IMHO, if you could get the Chinese Public Security Bureau to write

a notarized statement about her non-involvement in the CCP,

    that would seal the deal.

The Folks at Guz are typical bureaucrats, so you have

to overwhelm them with certificates, forms, paperwork, and

more paperwork to get your case approved.

It brings to mind the kitchen sink approach.

PS) After my SO's interview, she sold all the "valuable"

paperwork (MSN chat logs, phone card logs, etc) to

a paper recycler in GUZ for 50RMB

She said that paperwork was as heavy as her luggage.

  3. Dannie just had some dental work done and complained about the cost (My Story).  I've heard many posts of how much dental work our wives are needing after their arrival here.  I just finished spending $450 (with insurance coverage) just for deep cleaning on Leiqin.

Makes me wonder why they all complain about our costly dental care compared to China, yet all seem to be in need of it after their arrival.  Is the cost, in China, still too much for most average wage earners to spend on regular dental care?

    228778

Folks in China don't care about dental care.

I found the average Chinese just don't want to spend the

money or time. So, by 30 years old or even earlier,

most folks have 3-5 fillings, gum disease, crowns, etc etc.

My SO at 25 has 2 crowns! She's only paying 900RMB and

    she's telling me it's expensive :violin4:

I am saving a root-canal fund for her future dental bills

because I don't see my dental insurance picking up a lot of the fees.

  4. I just returned from having my wife’s biometrics done and the people in this office were so rude. To think that these people represent the front of line of immigration to America is almost be on belief. A young man playing Mario Brothers continuously on the computer, making fun of Mexican’s diet and “old people just kill me.” I made the mistake of asking a question. I feel like I need to take a shower from just going in the immigration office. I have never had any face to face meetings with an American immigration office and I certainly would never never never recommend to anyone friend or foe to venture into this barren landscape.

How in the world do people get jobs and keep jobs acting this way? If they were in the private sector they wouldn’t even be hired much less experience continuous employment.

My wife told me this is how Immigration in Guangzhou is run also. Employees tell people hurry here and hurry there. I have new found respect for all the wives and husband who actually go into these offices. The incredible audacity and God complex these people have just made me want to throw up.

Of course I kept my mouth shut. They have a service I need. I can remember encouraging others on CFL within the last month, “to give them what they want and try to smile doing it.” Do I ever apologize for being so lofty.

This is a great place to vent and be heard. My wife just came asked me for a kiss and said, “No angry.”

What a long strange trip of a journey I am on. I think I will go ride my bicycle and decide life is worth living in spite of American immigration.

We left with our papers stamped and entered into the computer.  :whip:  :violin4:

    228707

Unfortunately, this is prevalent across all levels of civil service in the state and federal govt. It's because the employees have no incentive, or initiative, or need, to be better and nicer at serving the public. They will get paid whether they are nice or not. Their supervisors don't care because their bosses (directors and above) are mostly political appointees who abuse their positions as much as they can, i.e. sneaking out during a work day for golf, fishing, and 3 hour lunches, etc etc

  5. Lead-based paint is the most common source of lead poisoning in children. Over many years, painted surfaces crumble and become common household dust. This dust coats the objects that curious children put in their mouths. Children will also chew on window sills or other painted surfaces. Sometimes they will eat old paint chips. I dont think I would worry about it at all if you can keep him from chewing on things :sleep1:

A 3 year old will put *anything* into his mouth.

If you can afford it, rent a new place. The risk is not worth it.

  6. I hope no one is replying to these.....it is scam (not spam) mail. I have gotten about 200 of these. The first set came from African 'diplomats', all who have millions of dollars that need to be transferred to an American account, and they will give you a few million if you do it for them.

From the way I have heard it, the scam is when you contact them, they supposedly are ready to make the transfer, but problems come up and they need you to send them money for this or that. They keep it going until you stop.

These Chinese companies.....some of them even go so far as to create a phony web page to make it appear more realistic.

More recently, I have gotten emails similar to that looking for 'representatives'. Probably another similar outcome. Think about it...they are writing you from a 'successful' company, yet they cannot find someone to represent them that they have to do blind email or yahoo ads? And they dont have their own email, so you have to reply to a free yahoo email address?

And by the way, I have won many Euro lotteries with my share of $300,000,000.

Here is a sample of the big money transfer:

    SAVE MY LIFE PLS.

    Attn:

    Dear Friend,

    Please Reply To: mrssusanmill01@excite.com

I greet you in the name of our lord. My name is Mrs.  Susan Okobi, I am

a widow and a mother of Two all girls. I know you will see my letter to

you as an embarrassment considering the fact that we do not know

ourselves. I plead with you to be patient with me I feel very pleased

to contact you for some assistance and business relationship. I live in

Nigeria with my children. My late husband was a loving, caring and

hardworking businessman who died unfortunately In a ghastly auto crash.

Before the sudden death of my beloved husband, and father of my

daughters, my late husband intended to establish a business in the

united states of America with the sum of $30 million united states

dollars, but unfortunately he died before this proposed venture.

Following his death, his family members insisted that I am not entitled

to his property (Assets and money) since I am a woman and my

offspring's all girls as I do not have a male child for my husband.

Well, according to some barbaric traditional laws here in Nigeria

(Africa) which doesn't permit a woman to inherit a man's property, as

they are expected by tradition to take over the management of his

business and other properties including myself who automatically

becomes a wife to one of his immediate brothers. Unfortunately to this

wicked family members, the $30million united states dollars which my

late husband intended to use in establishing a business in the United

States was deposited in a bank account unknown to his family. I and the

lawyer is the only one aware of this money, so I have discussed this

matter with a staff of the bank that i want this money personally so

that I will be able to take care of my children's educational needs

since my husband's family members vehemently opposed the furtherance of

their education. According to the staff of the bank, the best way to

secure this money is to transfer this money to a bank account outside

Nigeria For safe-keeping, later it will be used for business

establishment subject to the Advise of whosoever finally assists us. At

this juncture, I there fore ask for your sincere assistance in

providing us with your bank details and the enablement to facilitate

the remittance of this fund into your nominated account.

As soon as I get your positive response, I shall provide you with all

the necessary detail for this transfer. However, I have decided to to

give you 30% of the total money as a reward for your sincere assistance

and the remaining 70% of the money will be for my investment as I will

want to keep aglow my late husbands dream of investing in real estate.

To be able to help me, kindly send through my email, your personal

details including your contact information for easy communication.

Thanking you for your anticipated response

    Mrs. Susan Okobi.

It was originally termed the Spanish Prisoner con:

  7. Thanks for the suggestions guys. I did call an immigration lawyer and he suggested that I naturalize before starting the process as well. He said the process will take around 6 months and will cost 400 dollars. His fee for doing the paperwork is another 500 dollars! Ugh! That killed it.

I will need to start working on this myself (screw you and your 500 dollars!! Argh! Haha) but everything I googled came up with only regular naturalization forms, nothing related to Permanent Resident - Naturalization. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Also, that's a great idea Randy, I suppose I can bring her here under a student visa (she wants to go to school anyways) so we can be together while this whole process works out.

    Go to:

    http://boards.immigrationportal.com/

Very detailed and informative and best of all, it's FREE <_<

Best strategy is to get her over as a student (F-1).

Studying English for example. ESL courses are cheap.

    Shortest time, easiest paperwork.

  8. a real simple question... when my so comes to america, what how long and/or what does she need to return to china for a visit? thx to all for this wonderful website!

    198508

If the Permanent Resident wishes to remain outside US and it's territories

for longer than 2 years, apply for a I-131 Re-Entry Permit before you leave.

  9. Hello guys,

My interview went fine and I was granted the visa (CR1). I was asked so many questions. They questioned me so fast that I have to answer it quickly looking thru their eyes.

First they took my index finger print on a machine, after that they let me sit and wait.

Then after 30 minutes, the woman called me and asked; the name of my petitioner, how we met how many times he visits me, if I was married before, she asked me about my US visit before, what is my husband’s job, phone number, how often we talk, if he has kids.

After another 30 minutes, the final interview was with the VO. I took an oath and he asked my husbands name, where we get married, how we met, what website, how many kids does he has, what are their names, he asked me about my US visit before, how many years I’ve been living here in Hong Kong, what work am I going to have in the US, my husbands job, He looked at our wedding album turning from page to page, and he said that we have a very nice wedding. Then after that he said……congratulation, I don’t see any problem with your papers, so we will issue you the visa.

He gave me the yellow card to pay for my visa delivery. I was so proud of myself that I was full of confidence during my interview and I did not get nervous at all, though I was beforehand.

On my way home, I thank God so much as he helped me on this day of my interview.

    :)  :D  :) JR

Amen, and have a wonderful time together :D

  10. We went to the hospital for the medical exam this morning, and we were thare at 7:45am.... Their were about 6 people in line before us.  My wife went to the front of the line and was talking to a person behind the counter, then she was whisked off to start the exam!!!

It took us a total of 45 minutes from start to finish, we are going back tomorrow to pick up the results.

Oh BTW... my wife told me the reason she got to be first for the exam is because she paid the extra 100rmb for faster service

    197188

I wished they had the "expedited service" in USA especially in the

    government agencies.

Good luck with the interview !

  11. im really worried about the post...

about 1 year ago i sent a box in the mail and it took literally 3 months to reach her....

maybe if we can get a few people involved we can pay for a half container or something....

    Jesse, Chef ?

both you guys SO's are south China right?

    196190

    Dudes,

I'm interested if you're planning on shipping stuff from

    China.

  12. Having a dificulty with cutePDF I fill in the first form G-325a and the data doesn't transfer to the other three copies. Any ideas?

    195050

For crying out loud....use a pen.

Just write slowly and legibly and use uppercase letters.

If you make a mistake, just use correction fluid.

We used a pen and we got the visa. :)

  13. I was trying to get a ticket for this summer to visit my friend. The $1300 is not there....only $1600, now, she said she would still  look. Very nice lady. But I told her I met my lady on Internet and we started a long conversation... I even told her what happened to me.

I must say she brought doubt to me again. I do feel good about my lady, but to say I feel totally confident would not be the truth. I was burned badly and deep inside, I really scared to be burned again.  I don't think time will erase this fear, only success would.  That is why I feel I'm "just jumping back on the horse". I did tell her (hong), she has sold tickets to men here who are quite successful in thier marriages.... to say life is not easy, in an extreme understatement.

    195383

    Dude, Keep shopping around.

$1300 is too high. Are you going Business class??

    Try www.mobissimo.com

  14. From the consulate in GZ : "The American partner to a marriage in China will generally be asked to submit the following:

    a current passport

    a Chinese residence permit"

    among other things...

Guessing he's not gonna get that resident permit on a tourist visa, now is he...

    194956

I got married in Beijing and all I brought was:

    1) translated, notarized and authenticated

    Single status certificate

    2) my passport

    3) a photo of my wife and I

    4) 9 RMB

  15. A lot of folks seem to run into problems with this sort of thing. I wonder, what does a physician have to do to be designated as an official "Civil Surgeon" in terms of USCIS?

    Any one know?  :(

    195300

Probably take some exam, a security background check

and submit to a full body cavity search
