  5. 🎨🏔🏝Tibetan landscape along the state road G219!! #Tibet #lansdscape G219 PicturesAboutTibet: Tibetan landscape along the G219 highway ent The G219 is the longest road around the Chinese border. The Tibetan section covers the entire spectrum of landscapes on Earth in the cold zone, cold moderate zone, moderate zone, subtropical zone and tropical zone, and forms a natural geographical landscape alley. It connects the Himalayas as the most majestic mountains in the world, Qomolangma as the highest mountain, the ecological secret of Mêdog as the richest biodiversity, and the Yarlung-Zangbo Gorge as the deepest gorge, and unites natural and geographical surface elements such as mountains ets, rivers, forests, lakes, meadows, deserts and glaciers. Driving through the Tibetan section of the G219, you will experience the visual transformation of glaciers and snow-covered mountains into rivers and lakes, from deserts to forest steppes, and from alpine valleys to rural idylls. Every look and every encounter with the geographical landscape is a highlight. 9. Here's another video from Sabbatical - interestingly, posted on Sept. 11 "The Village in China", where he posted about having to leave China was posted on Oct.23 No information about his medical condition was provided in either one. At about 26:00 in this video, he discovers the Liquan 1998 "Bill Clinton" beer
  10. Gweilo spills some beans here - some personal stuff and his typical brand of politics, but also some information (beginning around 04:30), including that he expects to have to stay in China on a tourist (Q2, S2 student, or L) visa, but that he thinks he "might be able to work something out with the resident permit office". Doubtful. The S2 visa would allow him to stay without making border runs, but would require him to be a full time student, so I'm guessing Q2 is his best option. He does say that he "no longer fits in in Canada", which makes it obvious that he went there only For Weifang's cancer treatments. We all make choices, that was his (and hers). Now he chooses China. AND that he intends to continue making videos once he's finished "wallowing in self-pity".
  11. Dear the West. Please send your money. You know you want to and besides, we need it. Lots of Love, China China backs ‘around 170 measures’ to open up services sector in Beijing as capital outflows, sluggish recovery bite Measures aimed at aligning with ‘international high-standard economic and trade rules’, Chinese commerce vice-minister Ling Ji says Plan endorsed by State Council comes as China grapples with continued outflow of foreign capital and a less than stellar post-pandemic recovery. from the SCMP The deeper reforms will relate to telecoms, finance, healthcare, culture and professional finance services in Beijing, with overseas investors given greater access to many industries. 12. Like I've said, the news is OLD in China, but China has not shared information to the western media. Again - my advice is to just follow your wife's lead. You may or may not want to read what's posted on CFL - your choice. I think your main concern for this trip needs to be about transferring money to yourself in China.
  13. You may hear things like "It may be another pandemic". This is very doubtful, but you never know. China is getting a lot of blowback against their lack of transparency. Don't worry about it, but pay attention to what you hear where you are. CGTN called it a ""Winter Respiratory Illness Season" last night.
  14. You might keep the cash in an envelope sso that TSA can look if they want to. WATCH them carefully if they do to make sure no one ELSE notices (and also that THEY don't take any). If you carry over $10,000USD cash, you will need to declare it at customs. No problem there, although again, they may want to look at it. Yes, it's nerve-wracking - that's why I don't carry any with me. When I went to the US, I used credit cards exclusively (no cash for the entire trip). I wire ALL money to China that I need at a cost of $50 per transfer. One thing you can do for this trip is to wire US dollars to a relative. KEEP it in US dollars and change only what you need into RMB. You can then wire the remaining US dollars at the end of the trip back to your own US account. I can do this with BofA and the China Construction Bank, but you would need to make sure you can do it with your relative's bank in China.
  15. Okay - yeah just make sure you CAN get the cash you need. A Chinese-issued credit card will work, of course, but any Western cards will be iffy at best. In China now, people are almost exclusively using WeChat or AliPay. You may hear more before you leave about the sickness going around - it's only NOW reaching the Western media. Just follow your wife's lead there and maybe bring a mask or two or three and don't worry about it.
  16. Welcome to Tengwang Pavilion, one of the four famous buildings in China. I'm waiting for you in Nanchang! from Cai Fuwei on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=pfbid023PX6hQt6bJ1cBSSrGQyoo5kGZCbuGq78wrD9XokzFkULaDhYuoxtB6WF9L8NNWJDl&id=61550932797624
  17. Elon Musk learns about "Unions" (no, not in China) Tesla strikes in Sweden are ‘insane’, says Elon Musk Industrial action at carmaker over collective bargaining sparks wave of sympathy strikes that could spill into other countries from Financial Times (paywalled) . . . or from CNN Business ‘This is insane.’ Swedish workers are getting under Elon Musk’s skin
  18. Read the articles I posted yesterday about the "mystery illness" in China (not COVID). Hospitals in big cities are being overwhelmed by sick children. This is known in China, but has only been picked up on by the Western Media in the last few days. Sick children in hospitals won't affect you, of course, but I'm guessing that where there are sick children in hospitals there are also going to be a few (or more) sick adults. I don't know what to tell you there - it is not affecting us in Yulin. Foreign credit cards are not accepted in China - I used my Discover card (which is supposedly accepted everywhere that Union Pay is) for a couple of months before it was cut off. You will probably need to have a way to send yourself money - I posted links to those topics earlier. You MAY be able to connect a foreign credit card to your WeChat account. Attitudes toward China in America have changed, but as far as I know, the attitudes of the Chinese people toward Americans have not changed so much. Good luck with your trip - but seriously, it may be a good idea to postpone the trip until you can sort all this out. Make sure that you will be able to access the money you need.
  19. It's only beginning to be covered in the Western media - Ground news shows 258 articles in the Western media, and only one in China (the one above from the Global Times)
  20. Yes, I think you are correct. But, because of China's lack of transparency, you can't be sure. Incoming foreign visitors won't be aware of the situation, or might hear about it through the foreign media and decide not to come at all.
  21. I think it is MUCH more widespread in China than I was aware, but not anywhere near us W.H.O. 23. . . . and from the SCMP WHO presses China for details amid outbreak of respiratory illness among children The World Health Organization (WHO) has asked China to provide details after an outbreak of a respiratory illness among children in the country. 24. I just noticed this in your post - "I wanted to notify them that I was traveling to China and would be using my debit and credits cards over there." Good luck with that. Foreign credit cards have NEVER worked in China (I use mine only online), but there ARE new "agreements" in place that might allow some use. What you CAN do, though, is activate your credit card for use in the WeChat app. THAT would be accepted anywhere that WeChat is.
