  1. It runs in his family - his mother did.
  2. The US courts have been doing this for many years in contempt of court cases. Indefinitely, no. There are many cases where someone may be thrown in jail on the word of an official. None are indefinite. The alternative to the lawless approach is to follow the existing law. Amend it, if necessary.
  3. Randy, yes, this is exactly why I'm not getting anywhere. They give me the same info. The latest note is from way back in June 2006 regarding a request for additional evidence which they said was completed for the i485. And that status update is no longer valid, since I already am past the interview already. Yeah - what bothers me about this is that it's open ended. That is, you won't know until "nothing happens for a long period of time"* if your application maybe fell through the cracks. And I won't especially care to have to file another EAD application. Hang in there. There are lots of us in the same boat. * quote from one of Bill Gates' installations
  4. I think 5 touches makes a tickle, doesn't it? Hopefully, it means they've looked at it and didn't find anything to RFE you for.
  5. The USCIS deleted all their old web pages, before creating these new ones: USCIS website
  6. Roger, I agree with everything you say except the part about traveler's check. I have not tried to convert currency in GZ, so it might be the case in GZ, but I find that very hard to believe. Everywhere you go in China, they give you two rates: one for CASH and another one for traveler's checks. The traveler's check rate is always better. All these banks which show the traveler's check rate doesn't really allow you to exchange using a traveler's check? That can't be right. And what about the hotels? The big hotels also list rates for both cash and traveler's checks. Do they also not accept them? I find that very hard to believe. I hate banks in China. They're worse than the DMV in the States. You need to find a bank with a foreign exchange department - we had to go to three different banks in GZ before we found the "one". There are plenty of cities in China that don't have them at all, including Jiaying's home town. Or a major hotel.
  7. You can buy 'milk' in China - it tastes roughly like powdered milk dissolved in water, with plenty of sugar added.
  8. To maintain the greencard, she would have to return to the US once every year. The only other thing you need to do is to make sure she can receive it through the mail.
  9. What I had thought I had read on other cases was that the visa would be for a 6 month stay, and could be extended for another 6 months. Longer than that, no.
  10. The only requirement is that she be able to receive mail sent to that address, and that she show up for the interview. Don't worry about any questions.
  11. The only information you will find is at USCIS Case Status search. Anyone (including Infopass) you find to ask about the status will look at this page.
  12. Like Carl said, count your blessings! There is another case that went through even faster than yours, with a short period prior to filing. SinoTexas
  13. Due process. I don't know what the provedure is for legally imprisoning someone who is a real threat, but I guarantee that if the government had 'listened' prior to 9/11, it would not have occurred.
  14. That's a bit much, Lee. The attitude is not wanted by anyone.
  15. There might be teensy weensy difference between civil criminals and this guy. I would imagine there was more than shaky evidence to get that order signed and hold him as an enemy combatant. But I'm sure the federal government would be happy to let him loose if you personally guaranteed his behavior while in our country and are willing to surrender your life without debate if you are wrong . I also don't have a fondness for serial rapist or child molesters living or frequenting my neighborhood either and would suggest they reside in the adjoining property to those who turn them loose as well. If that were a requirement for those who made the determination to turn them loose on society it would be amazing how many would not so easily be released to prey on the unsuspecting citizenry. Again: Used to be, these things would be tried in court. NOT on Candle.
  16. It's simply a matter of convenience that we already know that he's guilty. Used to be, these things would be tried in court.
  17. It's not my encoding, its in the weblink I sent. Is your computer set up so it can handle pinyin? I am no computer whiz, I had to download another program before mine could utilize pinyin. It's those little tone marks that it can't handle. H'mm. Works fine on the other page, but not here. W¨¯ ¨¤i n¨«
  18. It doesn't seem like the AP would affect your AOS status - the language on it says the bearer "intends to return to the United States to resume processing of the adjustment of status application". This sounds like your status is the same as before. But you should be about ready to file for a second EAD (unless she has her green card) - we'll be filing ours in a couple of months.
  19. What encoding are you using? Nothing has worked so far (I get a box for the o in Wo and the i in ni), not even Unicode.
  20. Not according to a person I spoke with at DOS, but that is according to the person I spoke with at USCIS. The DOS person I spoke with stated "as long as a petetion has been filed for AOS, in other words if and AOS is pending, all benefits and privledges remain in effect for that visa". I specifically asked about multi-entry for travel outside the US and was told again that all benefits and privledges including entry/exit were still valid. Of course, we must keep in mind the response I received from the IO at my Info-Pass Appointment......which was wrong! Possibaly this person I spoke with at DOS was wrong also? I am no expert here. But I am looking for responses from experienced persons, not from someone who thinks-he-knows-the answer. Randy.....are you sure your post is correct? If it is.......thank you. PapaBear Pretty sure, but no, I don't have any direct experience or knowledge. I wouldn't think an expired visa would get you into the country. But definitely wait for another opinion. The only thing like that for K-1's is the Employment Authorization, which DOES expire with the visa.
  21. simply by being declared (by the administration) an "enemy combatant".
  22. Be aware that your K3 expires in 3 months and that you WILL need an AP after that date.
