  1. You might check with your local high school about a student exchange program
  2. Now that they've had this sudden extra infusion of capital, it should be no problem! I'll update my charts to include the recent plunge!
  3. When my wife came from China, she brought some of her favorite "Chinese" medicines with her - including Contac. Go to the drugstore and look for English labels.
  4. Yes - http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...st&p=349184
  5. Yes it is. Jiaying, before she knew I was aware of it, also showed me an article about it in the local Chinese paper. Apparently, it's big news, although it doesn't affect citizenship applications
  6. There are plenty of pumpers here who will gladly tell you you can expect your green card within 3 to 6 months as long as "Ours is a simple case, no prior marriage,no kids, etc etc." You might want to also check out timelines such as ours. Also check out this thread, which gives hope that it might not be a whole lot longer than 6 months. We have yet to see any effects from this memo, however. edit - correct spelling
  7. If anyone has access to AILA, I'd appreciate a copy of the memo http://www.aila.org/content/default.aspx?docid=24522 edit = Never mind - there it is on page 7 of http://immigrationportal.com/attachment.ph...mp;d=1202337346
  8. I'm afraid that simply issuing the memo is enough of an excuse for them to "back up"
  9. Yes - thanks, Stat, for posting this. Hopefully, it will help all of us who are still waiting.
  10. The ASC (Application Support Center) codes may be ignored. They will send you a notice when it's time for your biometrics, and tell you which ASC to go to. Our ASC codes were 2 and 3, maybe representing the services required (just a guess) - the AOS(I-485) requires all ten fingerprints, while the EAD(I-751) requires only 1 and a picture. The AP(I-131) does not require any ASC processing.
  11. The mother-in-law is a USC and could file DCF for her husband. The problem there would be showing US domicile and the I-864 support affidavit. The short visit may also work against them.
  12. Think of a bank window, where you would have to pass it under and through. The size isn't as important as the flexibility. By all means, definitely take the pages out of the album
  13. At his age, you wouldn't think it would affect anything. While we were there, however,we saw a 16 year get a blue slip for no parents. I immediately ran up stairs to give Jiaying's son both of our passports
  14. That's where this gets alittle tricky Randy. Since the Satalite Menu/Guide still shows "half hour" programming.....it's difficult to program the DVR to catch the whole broadcast without it wanting to stop and begin with each program change. I encountered this at the 2007/2008 New Year Gala. This time I am going to set up a VCR and run my satalite signal through it......then set the speed for 4 or 6 hour record speed. The Gala usually runs an hour past the witching hour.....so I figure a minimum of 5 hours of record time needed. B) If all else fails....you can program your DVR to record the "half hour" programs but it makes for a pretty choppy recording.....not to mention the frustration that sets in when you have to pick up the remote to start the next segment (each half-hour). Hope my info helps........and enjoy the show!!! PapaBear We've got Dish - I was able to edit the timer so now it will record 6AM - 11:59AM on channel 694 CCTV9 Thanks!
  15. OK - I see - but how long should I set my recorder for? I don't see that anywhere.
  16. You done good, Lou. Without that green card, she has no documentation as to legal presence. The temp card is all you need, whether the replacement arrives or not (I'll bet it will).
  17. Yes - all standard stuff. Unless you know of some reason why they would blue-slip him (was the interview at all rough?), I think all you need to do is to sit back and wait for the processing to complete. Others may have some more details there.
  18. We show a half hour program on CCTV9 at 6AM CST (=8PM Beijing) called "Asia Today". Is this it?
  19. They may be waiting for a name check to complete (this has been known to happen). Keep your fingers crossed. IR-2 means that he is your son for immigration purposes, and you were married more than 2 years at the time of the interview. He will get his 10 year green card when he arrives, so maybe they're giving him a little more scrutiny.
  20. Congrats! We're also hoping for the same thing - 2 years after the interview
  21. The I-485 is the Application for adjustment of status. The I-751 is the petion for Removal of Conditions. K visa holders must file the I-485 to adjust status in the US, and then file the I-751 to Remove Conditions. CR-1 and IR-1 visa holders adjust status in China, and will be mailed a green card shortly after their arrival in the US. For CR-1 visa holders who wait until AFTER their 2 year wedding anniversary before entering the US, and IR-1 visa holders, the green card is an unconditional (10 year) green card. CR-1 and IR-1 visas are identical, except that if the visa interview occurs after the second wedding anniversary, the IR-1 visa is given. The I-751 is filed within 90 days of the expiration date on the green card to remove conditions. This step is not necessary for those with an unconditional green card.
  22. A second trip - but make a copy of the original, so you can leave that at the POE instead of an original.
  23. You should be able to file for a replacement card, the same way you got the original (wait a second - where IS the original?). Check ssa.gov If it wasn't a disk crash, you can take the disks to another computer and read them there, with a little bit of PC expertise.
  24. No matter which way you go, look at the green card expiration date. Apply to remove conditions within that 90 day window PRIOR TO THE GREEN CARD EXPIRATION.
