  1. Thanks for the warning there, Dan. I'll keep an eye on it.
  2. Simply put, because they say so! We've seen this one other time, with someone who had a background (felony or some such, I don't remember exactly what) Edit: Make that one time - see his earlier post http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...st&p=404416
  3. The POE is NOT any kind of an interview or a test. They are supposed to allow you entry unless something is amiss. They will also enter your information into the immigration computers, and take your packet from GUZ. This will be used to create your file, which you will next see at the AOS interview.
  4. I think these inquiries serve to basically rattle someone's cage, and actually get results. A court action, on the other hand, can simply serve as an excuse for them to take no action while the "court action is pending".
  5. Count me among the skeptical. Heck, I'm usually feeling much better after three days of just advil and chicken soup. As far as I know remedy tests that included chicken soup all concluded it cured the fastest. But to get the cures working, guasha and cupping work wonders. Jiaying brought a do-it-yourself kit with her this trip. http://i20.ebayimg.com/07/i/000/ae/65/a51b_1.JPG
  6. Also try using other software to write to the DVD. Did any DVD burning software come with your DVD drive? If not, download Nero, or some other software which allows a trial period. It's not a difficult issue you're facing, but it can involve some trial and error to determine what's compatible with what.
  7. One other thing happened - the Customs inspector was asking Jiaying if she had any <blah, blah, or blah>. She just pointed to me (since she obviously didn't understand the English) and I answered. I was asked if I knew any Chinese, and I enjoyed answering no I didn't (I wasn't about to try to do any translating for them), but that we were together. We were one of the very few just passed on through without a search.
  8. . . . which is why they're considering a devaluation of the yuan http://en.epochtimes.com/n2/china/yuan-dep...onomy-8392.html
  9. Be sure and REMIND us when it's time to renew. Congrats
  10. Don't forget to mark your 10 yr calendar for 2018. Or just stick around here.
  11. First thing to do is ditch the translator. If you can't for some reason - what is it? Even with the best translator, you are simply talking WITH the translator ABOUT your SO. Use electronic (computer or handheld) where needed - these are MUCH more impartial.
  12. There is talk of depreciating the yuan (making that exchange rate we always quote INCREASE) http://en.epochtimes.com/n2/china/yuan-dep...onomy-8392.html
  13. While I was waiting to get on the plane in Newark to go to Beijing, a couple of ICE agents walked by, escorting someone to the plane - one in front, one in back. They were standing by the door to the plane when I get on, I guess to make sure that he would still be on the other side of it when the door was shut. Coming back through Newark, processing with the green card was pretty much identical to my on - they simply scanned both passports, and the green card, and waved us through. When we got to the baggage claim, however, there were (it seemed) as many Customs agents as passengers. They had two dogs sniffing around everywhere. All passengers from China were diverted through a baggage inspection area, where the luggage was x-rayed, and almost everyone's searched (they graciously let us through, however) - I assume because of the new bird flu scare in Hong Kong.
  14. I agree with Andrew - overly strict rules are often only enforced for those who abuse them - but check your lease to see if you might be charged extra for the time they're here. That 2 week limit sounds like they might be rounding up to a month.
  15. Not true - the visa MUST be used (at the POE) within one year of the Mother's date of entry. This is ridiculous - now they're torturing our children as well? Try email, also. http://www.usembassy-china.org.cn/guangzhou/iv/email.html
  16. The F-1 is an idea. It may or may not fit your circumstances. Jiaying's green card was on a "next month" basis since March, and a "who really knows" basis since June, 2006. An immigration lawyer can fill you in on any "possibility of conflicting with her AOS or trouble".
  17. The USCIS seal of approval One example: http://www.tcc.edu/students/ISS/F1_new/visa.htm
  18. It's triggered automatically when you enter the country, at the POE.
  19. I'll cast my vote with door # 2. I don't think we've heard of anyone who has found it behind door # 1.
  20. I'm aware what date it is.... I just felt you were implying the worksheet could be used naked without a tax return, since 2008 taxes won't be filed before at least 2 months from now, since I don't generally get a w2 until Feburary What I'm thinking is that you'll know when you check the worksheet whether you can get your rebate with the 2008 taxes. If not, well, the only thing left to try is the amended return for 2007. But I think the 2008 worksheet will be both simpler and faster.
  21. Randy, you say at the end of the month? The IRS' site says to file with taxes for 2008. Well, yes!!?! Look at your calendar! Find the worksheet (at the end of this month) that will tell you whether you can get the rebate with your 2008 taxes or not.
  22. Ask if they will supply the I-20 form that she needs to apply for an F-1 I don't know if she can apply for an F-1 while here on a K-2, but it might be worth looking in to. I'm guessing she can. Otherwise, she would have to wait for her green card, or go to another school ( some are more adept at dealing with these issues than others).
  23. The wording is a little vague - it seems to talk about the case where the primary filer has an ITIN, and then later gets an SSN. Your case is the other way around - the return would still be filed under the same SSN. It's your spouse who would get the new SSN. At this point in time, though, I think I'd wait for the worksheet, which will be out at the end of the month.
  24. They will include a worksheet which will (supposedly) allow you to claim the rebate at that time.
