  1. For K1, you only have to pay 20yuan when you get the pink slip. Wish you a good luck, Taijimonkey. I like your name BTW.
  2. Personally I think jokes and humors is cultural-loaded. It has a lot to do with one's upbringing background. The following is a joke of Deng xiaoping's Sichuan Dialect in China. It seems English and Sichuan Dialect is compatible here. English Version of 1)-- When Deng visited the US in the 1980s, he was asked the following questions by the American reporters who wanted to test Deng's English in the absence of his interpreter. a) Do you know the capital city of the US? Deng was thinking: it is usual to ask one's name for the first time. So she answered it in Sichuan Dialect: Wo xing deng. (Washington). b)Seeing that he could understand a bit, the reporter continued asking: "what does you wife do when she gets here." Deng was pondering that maybe they were asking me the given name now and responded: Xiaoping(shopping). c) His English is not bad, the reporter thought. "How do you go traveling while you are here?" Deng was guessing that maybe they are asking my age now so he answered without second thought. "ba shi---eighty(bus)" d) All the reporters were astonished by how good Deng's English is and someone suggested asking a more difficult question. "Who do you think will be the next leader of Taiwan?" Deng was looking for his interpreter to come back but still didn't see and he answered impatiently: "ni deng hui--wait a moment(li denghui)" e) The reporters were so shocked at his answer to the difficult and sensitive question and continued asking "Who will be the one after Li denghui?" Deng felt annoyed now and said Suibian la--what the hell.(chen shuibian) The reporter asked the last question when the interpreter cam back. "What do you think is the most challenging thing for the human being in the 21 century." When deng saw the interpreter and got angry at him : Sha shi--what happened?. (SARS). In twenty years, American reporters exclaimed with admiration: Deng is for sure a great leader. He can predict things like prophet. 2) One day a Chinese woman witnessed a car accident. When being asked to describe what she saw, she had trouble making herself understood. Her English is not that good. So she tried with her body gesture: Oh. u see. One car come, one car go. two car bengbeng, one guy die.
  3. I had the similar experience. My then fiance is a law school student too and his mom is our co-sponsor. I was simply asked to give the 2007tax return of his mom's. Zanyi, where do you study? You know, it is not easy for the law school students' partners because the students are busy like a maniac especially when the finals are coming. I hope to get hold of your wife so that we can support each other spiritually.:)if she is willing too.
  4. Hi Wendylan, I have updated my signature. Please add us too! Thanks!

I came here with K1 visa and got married right after I arrived. But we'll have the ceremony in August next year and thinking of inviting my parents to come over. My questions are: 1), Will it be difficult for them to obtain the visa? 2) What documents should my parents and I prepare? 3) How long will it take them to get the visa? Do we have enough time if we start it right now?
  6. That's really awesome. Can you give me the website of aircanada. I am not sure where and how to apply for the transit visa. Does the 700 include the tax as well?
  7. I am trying to get my parents here for my wedding ceremony next year on August8th. I have been looking for some info on round trip leaving from Shanghai in late July or early August to Seattle and going back in mid- August. Any suggestion?
  8. What a busy day! Wish every one of you good luck and bring us more PINK.

  11. I would suggest to go to the USCIS certified civil surgeon and get them done. It won't cost that much. We wanted to save some money and went to the local hospital. It turned out that doctor knew nothing about the vaccinations I needed and the information on CDC website was too ambiguous to her. Instead of saving some money, we spent twice or even more than we thought. And our insurance company didn't cover it. It really sucked. Another way is: Ask the local doctor exactly what vaccinations you need. Our doctor didn't know anything, neither did we. She gave me several shots I don't need at all like polio, HPV, Hepatitis A &B, Melingoccoco which exists on I-693. After we visited the civil surgeon, we found out that the one we do need she didn't give like MMR. It is really a hassle. So go to the one who do know what to do. It will save both money and time. Good luck!
  12. I checked FAQ on AOS here and tried to get the sample package for AOS. I got the info that I-864 needs to be notarized. Is that true? The instruction of I-864 did not mention that. I am a bit confused.
  13. I just went back from a job interview. I am offered a part time job as a translator and an interpreter in a school. My concern is that we haven't filed out our AOS documents and I heard it takes 3 months to obtain the work permit. My question is: Is there a quicker way to work legally? for instance, a temporary work permit?

  15. Hi guys, What is Alien registration Number? Is it the same as I-94 number? How can I get it? Is non immigration visa number the one on bottom right of the visa? The red one? On G-325A, there is a column asking for file number. What is that? Oh gosh! when I got the visa, I thought the game was finally over but it turns out to be more paperwork after my arrival. I don't know whether I can go through this without the help from everyone on CFL.
  16. Thanks for the idea though but I don't think so. We are living in the Northeast of your country and we will travel to northwest for Christmas where my husband comes from. I don't think it's feasible for me! Anyway, we applied SSN today and then think of getting an ID.
  17. Can I travel within the States on Expired K1 Visa?
  18. Hi guys I arrived in the States on Sep18th with K1 and we got married on Sep24th. I understand that we have to get married within 90 days after my arrival. I have been searching for info about what to do and still not too clear. So my questions are: 1), About the SSN. Can you apply for that before you send out the I-485? If so, what form should I fill out or what phone calls should I make? 2), What forms should be sent out together with I-485 to USCIS? I guess basically I just want to know what should I do next? I have found so much info and so many forms but I am confused of what comes first.
  19. There are Chinese translators at the customs, so needn't worry about this. As far as I understand, she has to change flight? I would recommend that you should have some back up plans if the next fight is within three hours because it might take her very long to go through the customs. I had to stay overnight in Atlanta by myself when I missed the flight to Burlington on Sep18th. So I think meeting here at the first port will be a good idea. And I don't think you should worry too much about the customs process. It is easy. All she needs to do is to hand in the visa packet to them and then just wait until is called on to get the passport. No more questions!
  20. The doctor today said I don't need an HPV vaccination. Is that right? The doctor is not a certified civil surgeon but is only a primary care physician. The doctor checked the CDC website to see what the required vaccinations are. But there are a lot of vaccinations listed on the I-693. Why are there so many vaccinations listed on that form if I don't need all of them?
  21. That's what I thought. Thanks so much dnoblett.
  22. I posted my question on vaccination in the US the other day and thanks to those who replied to me. I am having another two questions here regards of the X-ray I got from the medical exam and I-693forms. First, who is supposed to check the X-ray? I understand that the vaccination must be signed by the USCIS designated civil surgeon. My husband and I are going to get me vaccinated by the local civil surgeon where we can be covered by insurance and then get the designated civil surgeon sign on it. So I am wondering what's the X-ray for. Second, About the I-693, there are several parts and I think all we need to do is the Part 2, items 5 on vaccination and forget about the other parts on medical exams. So I guess my questions are: Is that true? Is the other parts of the medical exam the same as the one we got in China for the interview?
