  1. That's the problem! I-9 instruction itself is so unclear. I can interpret it in a way that you guys do: provide my EAD within 3 months but now the receipt is good enough for 3 months. But in a way you can also interpret as HR lady did. She also showed me the back of I-9 form which instructs the conditions of hiring employees. I seemed to fit one of the requirements but without I-551stamp on my visa. Anyway, I understand that it is a law school. It sounds ridiculous if a law school does not follow the law. They are being more careful! It's very very frustrating, especially you know there is a job available in front of you and you can make pretty good money out of it. But you just can't! The more I think about it, the more frustrated I get. Oh well, what else can I do besides waiting!!! We are going back to the west coast in two days for Christmas! I thought by the time we come back, I wouldn't have to stuck myself at home aimlessly! I am tired of that. I've been doing this for three months already. Thought new year will give me a new start but it turns out it will be the same! I am too young to stay at home all day long to kill my precious time! American Government really needs to change its immigration law. It doesn't seem efficient enough to me!
  2. The VISA packet is only mailed in a couple of cities, Guangzhou for sure, can't remember others. I think most people choose to wait because visa pick-up date is within three workdays. Some choose to ask the person like Mr, Yang who is trustworthy to pick it up and then send it to them.
  3. Good luck!I think every interviewee feel nervous before the interview. It's normal! Wish you bring the PINK back home for a good Spring Festival!
  4. I spent seven days totally. Arrived on Wed afternoon---medical exam on Thursday----Paid for the visa fee and pick the sealed medical exam on Friday----waited anxiously for the Monday's interview on Sat&Sun---Interview on Monday------Shopped On Tuesday-----Picked up the visa on Wed and checked out and went back home with a relief. The reason I chose Mr. Yang is because I heard many people give him good credit which I agree. He and his wife are very helpful and the room price is reasonable.
  5. Before I arrived in the US, I applied for a job as a secretary in a law school's China program and everything went well. But after they found out that I haven't applied for EAD,they hired somebody else. Shortly after I arrived in September, I contacted the boss and apparently there is another job opportunity as a translator and interpreter for the program. Again, I passed the interview and I was given 2 months to wait for my EAD. Yesterday, I went to discuss with my boss about the specific things like my job responsibilities and rate... It went smooth and I could sign the contract with them the next day. When the HR lady found out that I only hold the receipt for I-765, she called his lawyer brother and of course he said it is not sufficient enough. I tried to explain to her that in Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, states: "if employees are authorized to work, but are unable to present the required document(s) within three business days, they must present a receipt for the application of [sic] the document(s) within three business days and the actual document(s) within ninety (90) days." Davidaixuan suggested this to me. But HR lady said the problem is that I am not authorized to work. That's the whole problem. I came back home with frustration and depression. I think US government is too strict with the new immigrants from the day we filed our application to the day we hold green card or become citizen. I have a friend who married a British guy and from what she told me, everything was so damn easy for her and she starts to work in a week after she arrived. I don't blame the strictness but for god sake can they do it faster?
  6. Gee, that is damn fast. I've been here for three months and still stuck with my EAD. Got jealousy.
  7. I feel for you. It's so weird that she was asked so many tricky questions. I don't even know now what type of music my husband likes or what year he bought the car. So weird! I hope someone with more experience here will be able to help you out!
  8. Are you saying 6 months is counted from the day they enter the US? I mean what if they are granted the visa in late Jan but they can't fly to the US until late July. Will the visa still be in valid by the time they can fly which is 6 months? Whoa, there! The visa is good for 6 months in the US. If they enter the US in late July, it will be good through Jan 2010. It may also be extended for another 6 months. Someone else can tell you how soon after it is awarded that it must be used.
  9. That sucks! Now I have to time it because I want my parents to come here in late July. If they make an appointment with the embassy now, they can probably get an interview in Jan or Feb. So by the time they fly, the visa will be expired! Hang on a second! Can they obtain the visa right away after they are approved? If not, how long do they have to wait? Tourist (family visiting only - not business or student status) Visa is only for 6 months...
  10. Hi Lisa, I am doing the same thing. I am trying to get my parents here in July for our wedding. I think you need to ask your parents get the passports and then buy a calling card from CITIC bank to make an appointment. The next thing is to prove their strong tie with China which you can refer to Tine&Ella's explanation. I am on my way to fill out the DS156&157for them and then will write an invitation letter. I will follow the lists listed by Tine&Ella. It is of great help.
  11. Taiji hou, Congratulations to you and your fiance..Yay!!
  12. Way to go! Take your time to catch breath. Congratulations!
  13. True! Hukou, her ID and photos(2´çµÄ²ÊÉ«ÕÕƬ£©¡£I had 3 original documents for birth certificate, police record and marriageability for 1000 Yuan! One more copy seems a bit difference. she needs to go to her hukou to obtain documents for unmarried papers and household regisrty, PSB for police papers then take them to municiple public notary to make translations and books. I got 4 origanals of each 2000 rmb total.
  14. Hi, this is joannaliu's husband. We're still confused about this. We just received her NOA1 (I-797C) for both her I-765 and I-485. We were excited about receiving these because we were under the impression that all she needs to do now is just present this receipt to her future employer as proof that she has applied for the Green Card, and then she can work (and then, within 90 days, provide her Green Card). That's the assumption we are under at this point. The confusion we are facing now is that on the NOA1 receipts, it expressly states, "This receipt notice does NOT grant any immigration status or benefit. You may not present this receipt as evidence that you have been granted any immigration status or benefit." Our assumption about "presenting" this receipt to her future employer as "evidence" that she has applied for her Green Card, which will enable her to work (a benefit) is in stark contradiction to what this damned receipt says. As Jerry Seinfeld would say, "What's the deal with that?" -joannaliu de laogong
  15. Surely it does. Your rejection of I-765 made me recheck our forms. I don't think we have ever paid attention to the forms valid dates. Anyway, my I-765 form says Expired on 08/31/08. Please tell me it is valid date.
  16. Hi AstronomerDave, I was worried about the same problem when we applied K1 back in 2007. I was born at home with no birth certificate which was quite common in my generation in China. Well, it turned out to be not a big deal. All I needed to do was to bring my parents marriage certificate and a prove from the county government to the public notary. The public notary notarized the document which was all I need for the interview. So don't panic. If she is unclear about it, ask her to the notary place. The notary person will help her with the info. Joanna
  17. Hi guys, I sent my AOS, EAD document out on November 20 and still haven't received anything from them. When is the normal time to get the receipt after we file the documents? I am waiting for the receipt so that I can start to work but seems takes much longer than I thought.
  18. I agree. Your fiance will have to get the notarized marriageability certificate(δ»é¹«Ö¤Ê飩 to prove she is not married. The photos you mentioned sounds great. BTW, my husband proposed to me on the Great Wall too.
  19. Well, I know how to play Texas Hold'em. Actually I am a good player and I am a Chinese. Maybe I can help. But I don't know any website explaining the rules. You can try to copy the English Version and use some Chinese translation tool to translate into Chinese or you can just throw the specific questions!
  20. I am a young Chinese woman and the country let me leave with K1 in August. I believe it has little to do with Chinese government but a lot to do with whether the US would let us in or not.
  21. You know what, I should be a CSC too. We are living in Vermont now but our house is in Washington and we filed from CSC. Filed from Vermont Service Center... your original petition location here in the USA.
  22. Thanks Wendy. What do CSC and VSC mean? Why am I a VSC? i added the information for all the blanks from your husband's signature to fill in the other spaces i was missing, and it is listed under your name. i hope everything is correct.
  23. I stayed in his place for about 5days when I had my interview on Aug 18th. He and his wife are very nice people and trustworthy and helpful. Mr. Yang is a patient guy. He sometimes talks in a low voice that makes people think he is impatient. He has dealt with such things for many years and he knows what to expect. I remembered that one of my roommates asked the same questions over and over again the night before her interview, Mr.Yang still stayed calm and kept saying:"it is not a big deal." But one thing I was not very happy about was that even though I reserved a room with his wife a week before I arrived, I didn't get to live in their hotel because they didn't have the rooms. In stead my mom and I were introduced by Mr.yang to another one for the first two nights. Later he explained to me that sometimes people extend the days of living because of blue slip or delay of visa pick up. Therefore, he couldn't say for sure he had a room for me when I reserved it which sounds reasonable to me. So yeah, I will still give him good credit. I had good time with them.
