  1. My wife has her ten year card and we got that within 4 months as I recall. We are waiting on the ten year green card for my stepson and I believe we are getting close. We filed on September 9th, 2011 and still haven't gotten any farther then the biometrics and the case status is "in review". When we look online at the processing times for I-751 in Vermont it shows they are now up to August 22nd, 2011 so hopefully it won't be much longer...... Be prepared to wait if it goes to Vermont!
  2. Thanks Dan. He is 19 and will be 20 in October. His Mom recieved her 10 year card but at this point she is not sure if she wants to become a US Citizen or not. It is her decision to make as she feels ready......... I guess we will sit and wait.......
  3. Wow, Now I am wondering what is going on with my stepson's ROC. We sent it in on September 9th 2011 did the bio appt a few weeks later and checking online his case status is showing recieved/processing but nothing after that......... His mom has her ten year card and it was about six months after filing for ROC....no interview. Our son was a FTJ so we have had to file him seperate from his mom and he arrived later then her. Is there something else I can do to check on his status or where his file is? When i check case processing times for I-751 - Vermont Svc Ctr it is only up to July 4th 2011 so I thought we just needed to wait. Thanks,
  4. Hi All, We are looking at getting a ticket for my stepson to fly back to China for the summer. We have found a good ticket price but he will fly through Dubai and return the same way. Does anyone know if he needs any type of visa for this. He is 19 years old, has a Chinese passport and 2 year green card. The travel agency is telling us no but I wanted to see if anyone here has any experience with this. Thanks,
  5. Your Title says it......"weird" job "situation" I get it from the employer's side....they want a full time nanny. I can tell from your posts that you love your wife very much and want her to be happy. You want to be supportive. For me, living apart from my wife is just not how I would view marriage. Her being with me each day is more valuable to me then the money from working any job that would keep us apart. It is a choice you both will have to make together but my sense is you really want her to be with you based on your post title..............
  6. Thanks all for the replies. We just got back home and we had a great time in Dallas. We really liked the area. The shopping won out for the one day but we did rent a car for a day and went downtown to the JFK Museum and we also made it out to the Cowboy's Stadium. All of the driving allowed us to see more of the area and how big the city is. We also visited for the day with a friend of my wife's who is here in the US now. It was really good for both of them to be able to see each other and spend some time talking. Thanks again for all of the suggestions......we should have planned a few more days to see everything.
  7. Yes, the State Fair is over now. I forgot about Medieval Times and the BEP. Fort Worth has some excellent museums (more so than Dallas). The stockyards and the cowboy hall of fame are examples of some of the activities over that way. Dallas does have The Crow Collection of Asian art that may be of interest. I have talked with my wife and she is game to go anywhere..........but she seems most interested in the Coach store/outlet The Medieval Times may be fun. I need to get the approval of both my wife and her friend as to what we do as i want it to be fun for them and that they get to enjoy the day. It looks like we will rent a car while we are in Dallas so we will have the freedom to see what we want also. We are really looking forward to the trip as we get to see family and friends. Thanks again for all of the great ideas.
  8. Thanks guys. I will check out the places you posted. It will be a nice break from the daily routine.
  9. My Wife and I will be making a short trip to Texas in a few weeks. We will visit some family in Brenham and then go to Dallas for a one day class and spend a few extra days. We will meet up with a friend of my wife's who is here in the USA only a few months and her husband. They will come down for the day from Tulsa. Anyone in or near Dallas that can give us some good idea's about what to do or where to have a good meal? We will be in Addison which is just outside Dallas from the 16th-20th. We fly back home the morning of the 20th. Thanks,
  10. Ed, Sorry to hear about the blue slip. Your wife and my wife are friends and they have been talking over the past months. Last night she told me about your interview and i have your number to call you possibly tonight. My advise was going to be to have you come on CFL as the members here give great help, support and advise......but you have already found your way here. It looks like a joint sponsor is going to be what you need, hopefully you have someone who can do this for you. Good Luck......talk to you soon.
  11. Brian, That is exactly what I think in regards to Ebay. I also have sold a few items on their site but I think as a buisness it could be very cumbersome and difficult to make a profit. As you stated and Gale also mentioned the number of people and companies selling the same or similar products make it tough to build up a buisness that will be profitable. We would like to have a website that we could sell through but getting traffic to the site may be the challenge there. My wife has had a very succesful buisness in China that she still could continue with but she does not want the travel. To have a small buisness here may not satisfy her either.....trying to figure that out as we go. Thanks again for your reply.
  12. Gale, Thanks for all of the information. I will need to re read it to follow everything but your experience will help us to think through what would be a good way to start. I will see if my wife is interested in sending you a PM as I think we could get alot of information from you that would be helpful.
  13. This does look like a good setup. I will look in this area to see if they have anything similar. This would allow us a chance to try it without getting in deep financially. Thanks Bob
  14. That is certainly a fear we have is to do everything legitimate and know what our costs will be upfront so we don't have any surprises. So how has it worked out for you with your bead and jewelry store? I would value your insight. Thanks.
  15. Me to.........I have been in buisness before in construction but setting up a website and keeping it updated I know nothing about. I guess i will need to figure it out. I will talk with her more and see what she wants to do. Thanks.
  16. Thanks for the reply. We have talked about this also and will look into it more as an option. The biggest problem with a store or flea markets is that we have two active teenage boys and with all of their leagues and events we stay pretty busy. We were considering selling online or having a website as we thought this would allow more flexibility and she could do this from home. I guess we just need to jump in with a small purchase and see how it goes from there.
  17. Thanks Dan, It appears to me also that in looking through Ebay that the margin you would have would be a problem. The shipping direct from China to the customer is also very common but i did not understand why they did it this way........with you response i understand now. Thanks for your reply.
  18. My Tai Tai was in buisness for herself in China and now Like Giz's wife is wanting to go into buisness here. I have been following Griz's post and it has been very helpful. My wife is researching different factories to purchase earrings, braclets and necklaces. She wants to buy them and ship them here then sell on Ebay or set a website up.....or both. This is all out of my realm of knowledge so I am hoping others here could offer advise as to selling on Ebay or an Ebay store. The other thing is setting up a website for buisness......totally lost in this area. Are there web services that can do this without paying major amounts? Once we do start a site or list on Ebay how do you get your site up the list so that you get hits? She has made her mind up to do this so I am trying to be as helpful as I can but need some advise where to start as far as webites and getting traffic. Thanks,
  19. http://ca.reuters.com/article/topNews/idCATRE65E4RB20100617 Thanks Brian. We were considering a day trip to Toronto but it looks like it would be best to avoid it this time around. Thanks again for this information.
  20. My Yu is in China at the moment until mid July, if you are thinking of visiting the falls sometime in August perhaps could meet up. Dan, We will be there in June....actually next week. I can do you one better then the falls as you may recall I am from Hilton so we will be very close to you while visiting family. Maybe we can meet around that area. We will be there a few days and then on to the Adirondack mountains for a few days to visit a place where my family used to go for summer vacations each year. It is a place that captures your heart and people who vacation thier return year after year. It is a fourth generation family that owns it. Here is the link for anyone looking for a quiet place to relax.... http://www.morningsidecamps.com/ After that if time permits we will go to visit our son in Boston who is attending summer school at Harvard. A busy vacation but it will be great for Tai Tai to see more of the USA so I am really excited to go.
  21. Yep, my Wife loves the old downtown one, there are at least 5 China towns around Toronto. More: http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=37849 Thanks Dan and Brian. I will look into that as I really want this to be special for her........with two teenage boys in our house it is more then a full time job for us so time away for just the two of us I want to make extra special for her. It has been almost two years since she has arrived here and my only regret is that we didn't meet years before so that we could have more years together.
  22. Thanks Kyle. This will be a nice surprise for her to see the falls and spend a few days just the two of us.
  23. I am planning a trip to NY to visit family and while we are there I would like to take my wife to see Niagara Falls. I remember some posts about traveling to Canada but don't remember the particulars of the post in regards to neededing a visa for my wife or not. She has her 2 year green card. Any insight that anyone can give me would be helpful. Thanks,
  24. This past year my wife has wired money to our account in the US. It is not income but I want to be sure to report it properly so that we do not get in any legal trouble. Has anyone been through this and can give some advise? When doing our taxes it asks about foreign accounts and comes up with a form that needs to be sent to the Treasury Department. Thanks,
