  1. Hey Gene - I know - it's been a while since I posted last. Busy with new life with a wonderful person by my side Also, busy with work and wife's college etc. It's going great. Wife is adjusting just fine. She's doing great in school - got her name on the Dean's List. And me? Life couldn't be better
  2. Soon, a lot of CFL members will be going through the AOS process, and your SO will have to go through the fingerprinting process all over again. I don't have to tell you that sometimes this particular process can be long and painful, especially not knowing anything about it! So I fished around on the net and found a phone number that you might be interested in – it’s the FBI’s CJIS center over in West Virginia where they do the fingerprint checks. Many of you probably know this number already. The number is: 1-304-625-5590 Just a few minutes ago I called about my wife’s fingerprints. Now, I'm going through the AOS process, so I don't know if the K3/K1 will work. But their website mentions NCIC | IAFIS | NICS etc. It was 3:15PM when I called and I got a live person in about 10 seconds! The lady was 1000 times nicer than the people at the 1-800-misinformation line. All she needed was my wife’s A#. We had done our fingerprints for AOS on April 22, and according to her, my wife’s prints were processed and the result sent back to “INS” (apparently even some people in FBI doesn’t know that it’s CIS now) by April 23! WOW - that was fast! So, if you would like to know your own or your spouse’s fingerprint status and have the A# handy, call the numbers and follow the direction. There is one place where it’ll say something like – “contact the agency that requested the background check to get info about your case”. Just ignore it and press the option to talk to a representative.
  3. Thanks for the info. Just wondering whether every country will have a DHS office or not. If not, will the embassy take care of the papers?
  4. So, did the immigration officer use a VGA connecting or an RCA jack? or was it an USB cable? ............ just kidding. Congratulations to both of you. Hope the rest of the process goes smoothly.
  5. Hi everyone - We'll - I'm flying out of here tomorrow night to bring my wife to the U.S. on her K3 visa . I have two questions - 1) I know that there are 3 types of I-94s (for new immigrants, visitors and another one i don't remember). They are color coaded (white, green and yellow - may be). All those people who've brought their spouses to the U.S. with a K3 visa, which I-94 do I fill out? Will it be the "visitor" one (the white one)? 2) I'm sure this topic has been discussed, but just want a quick answer. MY wife won't work throughout the last 2 months of 2004. And she probably won't have a SSN by the time I file for 2004's tax return. But can I still include her name in my 1040 and file as "married, filing jointly" on my 2004's tax return? I'll be filling in a new W-4 form at work and change my marrital status to "married" once she gets here next week Thanks everyone.
  6. It's been around for a long time now.
  7. CONGRATULATIONS!!! May I ask which consulate you went through? Is he a K1, K3, CR-1? Good luck with the next steps.
  8. While looking through the USCIS website, I saw this today (Oct 29, 2004): http://uscis.gov/graphics/publicaffairs/ne...el_10_22_04.pdf Now, my wife'll be here on a K3 visa. She doesn't need an AP to travel even if she has filed for AOS, right? I read about K3 and AP (not needed) here: http://uscis.gov/graphics/services/Emergen...ex.htm#Advanced It says: Advance Parole: Most aliens who have pending applications for immigration benefits or for changes in nonimmigrant status need Advance Parole to re-enter the U.S. after traveling abroad. Aliens applying for advance parole on the basis of a pending application for adjustment of status must be approved for advance parole prior to leaving the United States in order to avoid the termination of their pending application for adjustment. Note: this does not apply to aliens who have applied to adjust to permanent resident status and who maintain H-1B (Specialty Worker) or L-1 (Intracompany Transferee) status, or their dependents, who have applied to adjust to permanent resident status and who have valid H-1B or L status and valid visas, V nonimmigrants who have a valid V nonimmigrant visa, are in valid V nonimmigrant status and have or obtain a valid V nonimmigrant visa before applying for readmission to the US, and K-3/4 nonimmigrants who have applied to adjust to permanent resident status and who have a valid K-3/4 nonimmigrant visa, are in valid K-3/4 nonimmigrant status and have or obtain a valid K-3/4 nonimmigrant visa before applying for readmission to the US. So, I'm right about K3s NOT needing APs, right?
  9. While reading another post here on CFL (http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=1&t=7405), I became a bit concerned. My wife got her visa this week. She was handed the brown envelope + passport with visa. Before the interview, as evidence of relationship, we had given them a letter from my wife's bank and the wire-transfer receipt from me. When my wife was handed the envelope and visa, they also gave those two letters back along with the original I-134. Now, the I-134 is not inside the brown envelope. I'm wondering if this will be a problem at the POE? Or, am I getting worried about nothing? Thanks in advance.
  10. The IRS phone number to order your tax transcripts is: 1-800-829-1040 You say that you use TaxCut. When you had printed them out, did it print out on a regular 1040 form? Did you sign that form? Do you have the copy of that signed 1040 that your TaxCut software printed out? If the answers are "yes", then obviously you don't need to order transcripts from IRS. BUT, if you don't have a *signed* (and dated) copy of your original printout, then you are better off with transcripts. When I did my taxes, I downloaded the 1040 PDF from IRS website, used adobe acrobat to fill them. Then I printed them out and signed them. Had no problem with my I-134.
  11. You namecheck papers are probably at Department of State in Washington, D.C. Call the following number, give them your name, date of birth and case number. They *might* be able to help: 202-663-1225 (you don't have to listen to the man talking for hours. just choose option 1 and then choose option 0)
  12. Man ! I'm so excited right now that I forgot to do one thing: THANK YOU ............ ALL OF YOU who helped me with answers when I had a question. CFL has been great. I'll make sure to stick around throughout our AOS process. Thanks again everyone
  13. It's now 1:30AM EST. Wife called about an hour ago after her K3 interview in Bangladesh. Everything went well. She was asked to go back to the consulate at 3:30 PM (local time) to pick up her visa !!!!!!!! She was asked only 2 questions: - Where does your husband work? - What is his designation at work? Then she was given the receipt with visa pickup time. Man, it feels good. Finally I can sleep the sweetest sleep of my life
