Guest blsqueaky
Well hello everyone, well today received a new bill from NVC, the processing bill for $335, then when paid they will send me the DS-230. Now here is what is strange, at first they where going to send me the bill for prcessing the I-864, they did not, just the DS-230. Now I am wondering, are they changing some of the rules, or did it get lost in the mail, or are they thinking that since Ling is already here on a K-3, we have been through most of this, so they are going to by pass some items. Before I received this bill, I have talked to NVC, and I have received email from them, and they know that we are going the route of the CR-1, even though Ling is already here. They even stated in their email to mail that they are sending me the bill for the I-864, and instead, this one showed up. Now I know that some of you are scratching your heads wondering, and so am I. Please remember, I am the first that I know of that is going through this, as far as K-3 and keeping with the CR-1. I will keep all informed as to what is going on. Questions, please ask, either here, email me or PM me. BTW, this form that they sent me says right on it, "Return only the original application that we send to you. Do not use downloaded computer forms" It also says, "Do NOT send any DS-230 forms nows, the forms will be sent to you once this fee has been paid. Sending the DS-230 form now WILL CAUSE SELAYS in processing your case. So I guess that I will follow the rules here to the letter Link to comment
eeyore
Not sure what to make of it, just as soon as I think I've got it figured out they throw us a curve. I'll be watching this to see what happens because the next step for me should be to receive I-864. Link to comment
tywy_99
yeah, Mark. Better call NVC and see what's going on. The I-864 is the "binding" contract. More so than the I-134, in fact, it says somewhere that a K-3 doesn't need a I-134.And somewhere in tht INA it states about having the I-864 on file in processing of the IV. Best to give NVC a call and get to the bottom of this to avoid any possible delays. Link to comment

kfman
And we were just discussing this in another thread about the downloaded DS230. I feel you should wait the time for the one sent to you. That is the impression I got when I received the same letter. I called NVC, and they definately said not to use the DS230 from the internet... maybe because there is a barcode on it.. and I just dont remember, but I waited. Even though it takes a few weeks longer, its better then sending in the unauthorized form and having to redo it... My opinion anyway Link to comment
Chinese Wife!!!
Constant item of discussion at VJ lately- downloading the DS-230 VS. the one sent FROM NVC. Majority of people seem to be reporting that a cover sheet with barcode is coming with the DS-230 and I-864. Also, Mark, there seems to be an indication that DOS just recently *MAY* have started sending out the DS-230 BEFORE the I-864 fee bills???? At least Ling is here in your case. Now a days there are many more of us trying to get our SO's TO THE US using this route. Link to comment

So you should be ok then. maybe. The answer in the FAQ isn't concise. Maybe we can find it in the FUAQ "Frequently Unanswered Questions"Go FUAQ a DUCK MARK. Ha ha 12. Are affidavits of support required for persons other than immigrants? Currently, some aliens entering the United States temporarily, particularly students and parolees, may be required to have affidavits of support filed on their behalf. These situations are not affected by the new legally enforceable affidavit of support requirements. Sponsors of aliens who do not fall within the definition of Section 213A will continue to use the I-134 affidavit of support. Refugees are not subject to the new affidavit of support requirement.
