Hotels in Guangzhou

yes, good question, everyone will have to get a hotel in guanzhou sooner or later. it would be great if we could keep this topic pinned or have a new forum like on visajourney about the consulate in guanzhou specifically- hotel, medical check info, everything.

We stayed at the Victory. Very nice, and an easy walk to anything on the island. The restaurant at the hotel is very good also. Took a walk through the White Swan. Seems to really cater to westerners. Saw sooooo many adoptive parents there. I'm kinda glad we didn't stay at the WS, seems a little bit *too* insulated...

Is there a clean or safe place to stay, preferably for under 80-100RMB a night? I know that in all of the other cities I have been to, even BJ and SH, this is do-able. I am wondering this, since in all liklihood, my interview time will conflict with school, and my darling and her dad will then go. I want to do what I can to help them to have comfort, but at the same time, since he will insist on paying, I wanted to save him as much as possible!

My wife and I stayed in the Victory Hotel Annex. Cheapest room they had was 280. There is a small hotel between the White Swan and the Annex we stayed, called something like the Youth Hostel. Cheap rooms but no elevator. For those of you that do not know where the Medical exam place is, if you stay in the main Victory Hotel, when you come out of the main entrance turn right and walk down maybe 2 blocks. #33 Sign is in English and Chinese.

I stayed at the Landmark once; four stars.

 

It has good dim sum on the second floor and

is close to the good resturants on the river

walk near the ferry terminal.

 

Also there is a McDonalds across the street.

 

I've been looking at the Rosedale too; four stars.

It is near my fiancee, close to the new Metro line and

has good rates.

We stayed at the Guangzhou International Seamen's Club situated on the bank of the goose pool of the Pearl River opposite Shamian Island.

A 3-star hotel. The rates were 450 yuan per night only because we were there during the GZ fair in October.

If you can get on the Victory website, become a member, free, you can get real good prices. I know that my next trip, main building, deluxe room, oversized king bed, 320RMB night.

Ok, getting better. However, since I will likely not be able to be there, and since I *know* that in BJ and SH you can get a clean and safe place for 80-100RMB a night, and since her dad will insist on paying, I was sort of looking for places that fall into this category. If people want to know where we found in BJ or SH, just ask my via a private message.

I have never minded paying for a nice place, and in most parts of Western China (ie. not near Beijing, Shanghai, HangZhou, and Nanjing) we have always been able to find 2-star to 3-star places at 40-80RMB a night. In Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Nanjing, we could not ever for under 80 and for the 80-150 range we could have something nice. I never minded spending, and sometimes we spent more, if we were tired, or the place was really nice/clean. However, given that I will not be able to be there due to school (unless the P4 is suddenly issued for another January date for us), and since then her dad will go with her (they are worried about safety in GZ...especially with their "proper" northern putonghua accent), he will insist on paying. And their income just will not be able to support any more than that.

 

It has been hard enough to get them to agree for my darling and I to cover our own expenses when we travel outside of their home city (but we are glad that they care for us so much!!!), so I really want to be able to help them to have a wonderful time, for their first time to Guangdong.

lele, Ling just told me that there is a real nice place on Shamian, 160rmb per night. Email or PM Dean Hall. He stayed there. I aksed her about 100rmb night, and she shhok head, and said, not good, not like.

Well 160 a night, with bargaining for a deal of 5 nights in a row may bring it down to 130RMB a night. A little high, but not out of reach anymore.
