1-130 petition for alien relative

Recommended Posts

My father in law who is 75 years old and a US citizen petition 1-130 for his adult son who is married with 2 kids and his wife this month. The priority/receive date on the letter is 12/10/18. The preference classification on the letter said "201 A3 INA ADULT CHILD OF USC."

2 questions:

1. Can someone give a rough estimate how long is the waiting process now, from beginning to end? Is it minimum at least 6 years, or 10 years wait, or more etc.?

2. What does the preference 201 A3 INA ADULT CHILD OF USC means? Is this preference on top of the list, middle or bottom priority?

Thanks in advance

201 A3 INA ADULT CHILD OF USC means your father-in-law is a U.S citizen, who is petitioning for his adult child.

The Visa Bulletins are updated every month, to let you know where it lies - see https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/visa-law0/visa-bulletin.html

Preference category F3 is for Married Sons and Daughters of U.S. Citizens. There is roughly a 12 year backlog - petitions with a filing date of Aug 12, 2006 are currently being processed.

Third: (F3) Married Sons and Daughters of U.S. Citizens: 23,400, plus any numbers not required by first and second preferences.
