Barshefsky, the top American trade negotiator in the Clinton administration from 1997 to 2001, was the US mastermind of a bilateral pact signed in November 1999 that gave American companies greater access to Chinese markets. It was one of the biggest trade deals in history, helping Congress pass a law in 2000 that permanently normalised trade relations with China and paving the way for China’s accession into the WTO the following year. Then-president Bill Clinton called the admission into the WTO “the most significant opportunity to create positive change in China since the 1970s”, when the Communist nation that had been behind the bamboo curtain first opened its arms to Washington, after a rivalry of more than 20 years. Chinese school principal breaks the rules with his bold dance move Video of Zhang Pengfei leading his pupils through an energetic shuffle dance routine has been a hit online Primary school in northern China has abandoned compulsory daily exercise programme in favour of ‘ghost steps’ Quote 'Behind them, one of the slogans on the two-storey school building reads: “Enjoy happy education”. They call the dance guibu, or ghost steps – a shuffle dance incorporating modern jazz steps, with heel-and-toe movements and arm actions. But this is not a typical schoolyard scene in China. Elsewhere, students can be seen going through the motions of their daily callisthenics routine – a rigid workout that has been a requirement at every primary, middle and high school since 1951, whose origin can be traced back to 19th century Germany.'
