Louis Finot was a French archaeologist and researcher, specialising in the cultures of Southeast Asia. He travelled across China around 1910 and 1930 and left some 2770 glass plates that show a great variety of subject matters. These photographs are part of the École française d'Extrême-Orient - EFEO collections.
Meet Alain Arrault, author of "Mémoires de Chine - La collection Louis Finot" this Saturday 24th September at 6pm at Librairie Le Phénix, where he will introduce the above mentioned publication.

Photojournalist Andrew Wong’s work offers a unique perspective on China’s transformation.

“When I went to the most grassroots places and saw some people trying to change the status quo, that’s very impressive.”

China Adagio: A Photographer’s 40-Year Visual Journey
Photojournalist Andrew Wong has been documenting China’s rise since the early 1980s. His work offers a unique perspective on the country’s transformation.

Quote

These are just a few of the haunting images from “China Adagio” — a new book collecting the work of the photographer Andrew S.T. Wong, who has been documenting China’s rise for nearly 40 years.

Wong started his career as a photojournalist for the American news agency United Press International in 1983, before joining Reuters when the companies merged two years later. Over the next two decades, he would travel on assignments all over China, documenting the country’s transformation as it integrated into the global economy. He led the team that recorded the funeral of Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping in 1997, and eventually rose to become Reuters’ chief photographer in the country.

 . . .

Since then, he has continued to travel widely around China, trying to capture the country’s extraordinary diversity. As a Hong Kong native, he feels his work differs from that of his foreign colleagues. He has a knack for candid shots, which show his subjects during relaxed moments.

“I have my advantages — I’m a bit Eastern and a bit Western,” Wong tells Sixth Tone. “I can look at China from a Chinese perspective, using the Chinese history, culture, and art that I have studied.”

The Dengfeng Observatory, located in Gaocheng town of Henan's Dengfeng city, was built by Chinese astronomer Guo Shoujing in 1276. It is not only the earliest and well-preserved observatory in China, but a significant part of China's 24 solar terms listed as the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

🔝乌镇(wuzhen),Tongxiang City,Zhejiang Province,China🎶🎵
-
………(^-^)………
Wuzhen lies at the north of Tongxiang City of Zhejiang Province, China, and at the center of the triangle formed by Shanghai, Hangzhou and Nanjing.
-
Over more than 1000 years,Wuzhen has never changed its name, address, or lifestyle, the traditional buildings are still well preserved after crossing so many rough years.
-
The town covers an area of 71.19km2, with a total population of 60,000 and permanent residents of 12,000. The town is divided into four zones by a cross-shaped river, with the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal running across the town, making it the only ancient water town adjacent to the canal.
-
The town lies on the Hangzhou-Jiaxing-Huzhou Alluvial Plain, with no hills but interlaced rivers. Due to its warm and humid climate, and abundant rainfalls and sunshine, the products here are rich, making Wuzhen well-known as “the town of fish, rice, and silk”.
