Randy W
Kind of a nicely-done little video - is that really "Hotel California" for the soundtrack ?? more of their China videos at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMUZHvbwQf6NAWYB7dcuEYwDGL2u6Kp5L China, Ping'An (Guangxi) - Yangshuo - Impression 2017 natasjayou "Watch on YouTube" - click through on video, or on headline above https://youtu.be/-JtgbQGBf4o Quote Published on Oct 12, 2017 Panorama of the Ping An terraced fields are built along the slope winding from the riverside up to the mountain top, the highest part being 880m in elevation while the lowest part is 380m. The coiling line that starts from the mountain foot up to the mountain top divides the mountain into layers of water glittering in the sun in spring, layers of green rice shoots in summer, layers of golden rice in fall, and layers of silvery frost in winter. Yangshuo, a county and resort town in southern China’s Guangxi region, is known for its dramatic karst mountain landscape and outdoor recreation. The town is set amid pinnacles like Bilian Feng (Green Lotus Peak), which has a hiking trail to the top. Tour boats offer cruises on the Li River past picturesque countryside from the town of Guilin to the north. The history of West Street dates back to over 1400 years ago. Since the street is popular with locals and foreigners alike, signs are written in both Chinese and English. Due to the relatively high number of foreign visitors, many locals speak some English unlike Chinese towns of its size. The stunning scenery of the Li River south from Yangshuo forms what is said to be the largest natural theater in the world for the now famous Liu San Jie Impression Light Show in Yangshuo. The waters of the Li-river set the stage and a dozen beautifully lit karst formations form a natural backdrop. The light show is a creation of Zhang Yi Mou, also director and choreographer of the impressive opening ceremony for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and famous Chinese movies like Raise the Red Lantern. The first light show in Yangshuo was held in 2004 and currently features over 600 locals, mainly from the Zhuang minority, including farmers, fishermen and young girls singing and performing simultaneously in a show that looks different each time as mist, rain and moonlight naturally alter the set of the stage. After pictures of the tree went viral on Chinese social media last year, more than 70,000 people visited on one day. So this year, the temple is taking special measures to regulate numbers. Anyone who wants to see the tree will have to book in advance on messaging app WeChat. Although temple staff have said that exceptions will be made in some circumstances, such as for the elderly. Allon
Some of the pictures of the karst are very similar to the geology of the Annamese Cordillera that stretches parallel between the Mekong and South China Sea, from Laos to Vietnam. I walked that area quite a bit. It's where the Plain of Jars is located, a wonder to behold, and at the time, very dangerous for us. The NVA were everywhere. The Special Forces guys would store weapons and food in little caches under trees so they would remember where they were or map them for other teams. I really admired those guys. They carried their balls in a bowling bag. It was very disturbing to see so many colors and shapes and beautiful country and then see a bomb crater or a stretch where Agent Orange had been sprayed. I guess the landscape is similar in southern China, especially the karsts of limestone and red clay. Really stunning country, like China.
