GUZ strikes again

Recommended Posts

Well, it appears I was too optomistic last Friday when I posted that we were finished with the process. At that time they told ChunMei that she could pick up her K1 visa on tuesday. When she went to consulate then they told her that now she could get it on Wednesday. On Wednesday they said maybe this week, or sometime next week. At this point she's still at the hotel waiting for something a little more definite.

Now she needs to get back to Nanning while she still has a job. We don't know what to do. Anybody else had this problem? I seem to remember a thread here someplace that said for one couple it took 4 months for the actual visa to finally be obtained.

I had everything planned, I was going by the usual 3 day window that most people have and I had the plane tickets booked for 2 out of china to the states. Day 3 came around and still no visa. I Had to come back to the states by myself. It took 3 weeks for them to deliver the visa after she was approved. It was due to "administrative processing" I guess because our case flew by so quickly that other paperwork was not caught up with it. Beats me. But it can take up to 1 month for AP.

After day 5 and she still has not got her visa. I say have her go back to nanning and keep checking the EMS website, your able to do that too. Once a EMS status is available for your tracking number the visa is ready and have her come back. Thats what my wife did, there was no way she was going to hang out in guangzhou for 3 weeks.

This is common,.

I thought GUZ can mail this to Nanning.

Others have it mailed to Mr, Yang in Gunagzhou, and then pay My Yang to EMS it to an address that GUZ wont mail to.

Fortunately I haven't made airline reservations yet. Had no intention of doing so until she had her actual visa in hand. She's been staying at the Yangs, so I guess I'll see if she can have Mr Yang mail it to her whenever it shows up.

Not really surprised at this; I'm getting the understanding that GUZ jerks people around just because they can.

Oh yeah forgot to mention, I booked my ticket with Cathay Pacific. Best flight I have ever been on. Anyways, they allow you to change your date anytime you want as much as you want without any fees. I couldnt believe it. I ended up changing her flight 2 times, once because of the visa not arriving in time and the 2nd because some typhoon was on its way to xiamen and I didnt want to risk her flight being cancelled.

They delayed my wifes also, we hung around Guangzhou 6 days visiting a friend of the wife, but still no visa and I had to get back to the states. So we flew back to Chongqing and then she just checked the EMS website until visa showed up and once it was at post office she flew to Guangzhou to pick it up and flew right back to Chongqing same day.

With GUZ there is absolutely no way to plan anything, it is all but the seat of the pants

We stayed at the Yang's and had to have Mr. Yang mail the visas to my wife and her daughter in Chengdu. The charge was 300 RMB for EMS service but he was very dependable. Everything was received right on time. If you can't wait and they don't mail to your city, Mr. Yang is the way to go.

I've told ChunMei she should return to Nanning tomorrow. Every day she's been going to the consulate, and every day they tell her, "It will be here tomorrow. Come back tomorrow" And she's been believing them.

She's tired of living in a hotel and needs to get back to her job. I told her to talk to Mr Yang about sending it to her when/if the visa ever shows up.

I'm thinking the consulate needs to put a banner over the entrance with their motto, "We're the US STate Department and we don't care."

Interesting, normally it is not picked up at consulate after interview, they will use EMS to mail it to many cities throughout China, Guangdong province, or to a post office not far from the consulate.

Apparently they told her it was mailed to the nearby post office. She's been going there every day. Then when it isn't there she goes back to the consulate. Where each dey they tell it was mailed "yesterday." She says that the post office isn't that close, and she has to ride the bus. So I',m puzzled.

Bus?

I seem to recall the office was perhaps a 20 min walk from the consulate at China Post Junyuan Office, located at No.155 Tianhe Dong Road.
