Does the Custom Hold Up still exist?

Recommended Posts

For K-1, they said they had to receive the physical files before scheduling the interview.

I checked some recent timelines, it seemed that it's very quick, around 10 days, for GUZ to receive the files, but I am not sure if that's physical files or not.

I know there are people with August interview dates here right? Could you please tell me if the Custom Hold Up still exists today? Can I expect my files to reach GUZ from NVC in couple weeks?

Thanks!

The procedure is in flux, NVC is beginning to send cases to consulate by an electronic process.

HOWEVER, the case load has not gotten any smaller, once the last physical case gets received, the consulate will be back into the usual backlog, the first cases that were electronically sent leap-frogged the remaining non electronic cases stuck in customs.

This is posed at the top of the general visa forum.

My case (CR-1) seemed to go pretty quickly, at least I thought it was quick. 2 months from outta NVC to physical letter arriving notifying my SO of interview (refer to timeline below). Maybe it is indeed a result of some sort of hybrid email/snail mail processing~or e-snail if you will B)

Anway, somewhat off topic, but, here we go:

In regard to the case loads not getting smaller, I wonder if this is really the case recently. The economy is really going down the toilet, and I am curious if the number of people losing jobs and such has caused a small dip in applications. As long as I get to my interview with up to date paystubs I'll be happy, but gosh darnit, I'll admit things aren't looking good for alot of people these days. Between lay offs and hour reductions, I wouldn't be surprised if now really wasn't really peak husband/wife importing season! :)

You do have a point there, many over there may be thinking why pack up and move to the USA in this uncertain economy?

Our physical files were in Chinese custom for 47 days. Took another 2 weeks for Guangzhou to acknowledge the receiving of the files. This is a CR-1.

Yours was back in 2008.

We are talking about now, NVC and GUZ have started a pilot program where cases are sent to the consulate electronically, I believe this is automatic for K-Visas, and needs to be requested for CR/IR visas.

The electronic process avoids the customs delay all together.

Funny, I was about to start to new thread regarding NVC to GUZ. I don't believe they are doing electronic transfer automatically. In fact, I was told by GUZ consulate that our files are being sent physically. I then became very concerned about this long way. GUZ said the wait could be 3 to 4 months. DOS said it could be up to 6 months. I think those are for the worst scenarios. I then did some alaysis on DHL tracking:

The early ones are out of custom and delived in about a week -- that's very good. However, one of the new ones are in delay and there is no sight of it being cleared out of custom. I am hoping it will be cleared out very soon -- hoping that the average custom delay is about 4 to 6 days?

Thanks.

Let's be clear. Chinese Customs isn't "holding up" anything. It is simply the warehouse for all of the thousands of submissions into GUZ. When GUZ finishes cases they fetch the next batch being stored in the warehouse.

Look at the tracking links I have posted. It clearly says Clearance Delay.

Mine is still in Custom since mid June. If you front load your document and it is more then a few pound you will have to wait. Since the pivot program only send file electroniclly is there still a point to front load?

Yes - the 'delay' is waiting for the Consulate to clear the packages for delivery.

NVC to GZ Mail Delay - this is from 2003

If the delivery is for a package under 3 lbs or 4 lbs then it deliver within a week.

Yep, and these are not visa petitions, they tend to be diplomatic packages.
