jp2008
Hello everyone, I just called DOS this morning and found out that our K1 petition has been approved. We got a blue slip after our interview on March 16th (last month) requesting for more financial support ie. co-sponsor. We mailed in our stuff right away but the docs weren't logged into the system until April 2nd. I called DOS once a week and today they confirmed that the "case has been approved", however "the visa has not been issued yet". My fiancee has not received the notice from Guangzhou yet. Does anybody know how long it takes between approval and visa issue? Thanks everyone for their help on previous posts!! Link to comment
Sebastian
woo hoo !! this is excellent news !!! Keep checking on the DOS hotline, I suggest to call once in the morning, once again in the late afternoon... see if/when any further status change. IIRC, she'll get a letter to come in with her passport. I've no idea how long that will take. If she hasn't received anything within 30 days, then make a call in to the Visa Info Center in Shanghai - request an appointment letter for 'visa issuance' ... (you'll have to prepay prior to calling them) You can also email into GUZ IV unit - but I'd wait a week (from today) before doing that... (just cause - they've got paperwork to churn through, and some computer updates to do). Wa Wa !! Congratulations !!! Link to comment
Randy W
Congrats! Do they have her passport yet? Edited April 13, 2009 by Randy W (see edit history) Link to comment
jp2008
Congrats! Do they have her passport yet? They said "the case has been approved, however they (GUZ) has not issued the visa". As Sebastian says, they told me to check-up once a day for case updates. They also said that the visa should be issued within the next week or so!!! BTW, does she need the actual letter she will get from GUZ (for her case approval and visa pick up) and bring it with her when she actually goes to GUZ to pick up her visa? Link to comment
Sebastian
She'll need a letter to get into the building, if she has her passport. IF GUZ has her passport, then the 'whole thing' will be mailed somewhere. BUT... if she has her passport - she'll receive a letter to come in. I've no idea about 'this turnaround' time... There is possibility the US Visa Info Center in Shanghai can get the letter generated for her, but ya gotta call - and... it's only a possibility - useful when things get munged up prior. Randy W
She will need to turn in the pasport so that they can put the visa in it. For this, she'll need the letter to get in the consulate. Link to comment
jp2008
Ok, got it! She still has her passport, GUZ didn't take it after the interview. The reason I was asking is just because she is in Anhui province which is fairly far (distance) from GUZ. My parents are in China right now and they are taking a trip down to Shenzhen next week, so if my fiancee didn't need to wait for the approval letter, I would ask her to go with them (just for company). It's ok though, we'll wait for the letter to come in. As long as we know the case has been approved, waiting a few more weeks or so is no biggy! Thanks guys!! Link to comment
jp2008
Is there any way that my parents can drop off the passport and pick up the visa for my fiancee in GUZ? or does she need to go in person? Link to comment

Sebastian
as to 'parents drop off' - this is tough one to answer - as DHS might still need to finger print her at the consulate. Any one got the straight poop? Link to comment
