Feathers268
We saw that park under construction in 2006 on our way to tour the Great Wall. The tour guide proudly called it the "Chinese Disney" and gave me a hard look when I laughed. She also gave me a hard look when I refuted her clame that the Great Wall could de seen from the moon. rogerinca
We were there, a year ago in July. We took the train over from GZ, and spent two days in HK. The weather was very warm, but by afternoon, the air was quite dry and clear, as compared to Guangzhou. Having been to Disneyland in So-Cal at least 25 times since it opened in 1955, I quickly realized the scale of the park was significantly less than the one in Anaheim. However, we had a great time!! The park was very clean, people were friendly, and I didn¡¯t observe anyone peeing in the bushes or in the corner of a building. It was very busy the weekend we were there. Must have been a bit surreal for you Roger. Link to comment

I've heard from my former colleagues at Disney Orlando, that they've cut the staff to the bone. A few years ago, they promoted dozens of people in their departments and then called them Vice Presidents, and gave a little raise and some stock options. A few weeks ago, they laid all of them off. More than 40. along with many others... http://www.nytimes.com/2001/06/09/business...-at-disney.html http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/29/disney-i...idates-studios/ http://brokehoedown.wordpress.com/2009/01/...siders-layoffs/ Edited March 22, 2009 by ShaQuaNew (see edit history) Link to comment
AstronomerDave
The main problem is cultural difference. most in china have no emotional attachment to the Mouse as in the US. Can't say I agree. For me, Disney was never about Mickey... Mickey and Minnie have really been gone since... the 50's... just people liking Nostalgia really cared about that.... You better not let my fiance hear you say that Disney isn't about Mickey Mouse!!!!!!! Edited March 23, 2009 by AstronomerDave (see edit history) Link to comment
