Food and Pregnancy

Recommended Posts

Today we found the Emerald City of Chinese markets. It is located about eighty miles north of here in a southern suburb of Nashville. Li was in absolute Chinese food heaven. She found so many items she wanted and was ecstatic to say the least. She was able to get many vegetables she has been craving and a horde of various pickled items. Even able to get a couple of dozen preserved duck eggs. ;)

They had goose feet, duck hearts, and....

Well, you get the picture.

I am really happy for her. It was truly a blessing to watch her wander around the store buying things she wanted. :D

I love this women so much, and the baby she is carrying.

Well if she has got goose feet, duck hearts, and chicken stomachs she ought to be pretty well set up for delicacies except she will definitely need some pork neckbones to go along with that and some fish heads. Throw in some seaweed and some black fungus for texture.

OMG, I just remembered, when I was with Ping in Dalian we came across a street vendor who had a 5 gallon bucket full of dried ants. Ping was quite excited and used her mobile to call her mother and ask her if she wanted any. Mama did not feel the need for them at that time - because she was still planning on dosing herself with the dried snake she had just bought a couple days earlier.

Pork neckbones are no problem in this part of the country Robert.

Already have the sea weed, duck hearts, etc.

Guess I better go find a pecan tree and take care of Don's request. Hope I don't get blasted with buckshot by some farmer.... :D

Li is concerned that I am giving board members the impression that she eats all the time.

Mick...

Thanks for the clarification. I imagined she looked like http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/_950/food.gif.

If she sees this, especially that little chow hound emoticon, I am in for it. ;)

Thanks Dave. :D

Mick, I know about those neckbones - in Piggly Wiggly they sell everything except the squeal. It is kind of frightening to me when Ping walks past all the weird pig parts, looking at them to assess their appeal with a practiced eye. She wanted to buy hog maws a few weeks ago, heaven help me, but I talked her out of it. She must know how to cook them because one time when I called her while we were still waiting for the visa I asked her what she was doing and she said she was cooking. When I asked her cooking what, she said "pork face."

True to his word, Robert S. sent Li a collection of wild hickory nuts. She immediately tried to open one with her teeth. Luckily I was able to intervene before a crown was needed. Wild hickory nuts are a tad on the hard side. :D ;)

Thanks for the care package Robert. She loved the other gifts as well. Now if I can just sneak up on the blind side of that one-eyed dog, I might be able to shag those pecans for Don. :D :P

Mick,

please tell Li: she needs to eat as much protein as possible. Nuts and lean meats are good stuff. I could eat half a duck at one sitting when I was pregnant with my daughter. She was born 8lb, of course I gained 25lb, too. I always believe protein helps grow brain cells. Looks like it works. The first semester here, in the midterm tests, she is already No 1 in all of her 5 courses she signed on. And she speaks with hardly any accent already. On the phone, you can't tell she has just come from China any more. She is very, very happy to be here and pleased with the college school systems here.

My best wishes to Li!
