Chinese Citizen Passport renewal

Recommended Posts

We had business in D.C near the Chinese Embassy on Feb 23rd. When we called ahead of time they said 'No, you must renew at your 'assigned' Consulate."

When we located the Visa section address (neither in, nor anywhere near the Embassy) and my wife asked the security guard, he said "No, you must use your own area consulate." Then he handed my wife a sheet of instructions, in Chinese, listing the states and their 'assigned' consulate.

We returned the next day, passed through security, waited our turn in line and my wife's application for renewal was accepted. The Walgreen's passport photos we brought were refused. Her eyes were not open wide enough. Save yourself time and trouble. Take the photos at the Visa section.

Reminder: We applied because we were in town on other business.

Yeah, I looked up on the web the list of area consulates in the US. (http://www.visarite.com/chnConsulate.htm) Then went to the web and typed in "chinese connsulate" and found (http://houston.china-consulate.org/eng/) They explained that each consulate has an territory of states that they cover. You can't even contact them by mail, that they prefer that you use a service to do business with them. You were lucky! We are using a service (VisaRite). Approx. $83. Takes @ 14 - 21 days. Anybody ever use them before and if so, how did you like them?

You can't use a visa service to renew a Chinese passport. You must go in person.

According to "Chinese Passport Law", effective January 01, 2007, Chinese Passport extension will not be performed any longer. Instead, applicant must apply for passport renewal. Exactly what Carl said.

Perhaps I've introduced some confusion into the topic by describing the place as "Visa Section." Well, that's what the Name Plates on the Inner & Outer Doors say.

And, yes, for Visas for me to visit China I have used Visarite's mail service and will again next time.
