Guest ShaQuaNew
Well, as fate would have it, Lan and Sarah will be leaving for the US on Sunday, to take care of their biometrics for 10-year GC. They will be staying one month, which means I will be without cultural and language help for that time. My wife reminds me that I am a big boy, and that I will be okay, but I must confess, the thought of them being away for that long is a bit unsettling. Lan is taking care of things before she leaves, like paying bills, transferring money, and other things that require a strong Chinese speaker. I can get around okay via taxi, subway and bus, and can get the basic necessities at grocery stores. After biometrics in Florida, Lan and Sarah will be going to Denver to meet with friends of ours who have volunteered to let Sarah stay with them while she finishes her senior year in High School. Sarah is a strong young woman, and very excited that she may be seeing snow for the first time in her life. Link to comment

yuehan123
I spent a few days 'alone' in China once. Arrangements were made for some local English Language study college kids to look in on me and make sure everything was ok. A month is a long, long time. I guess you'll work a lot. Good luck. Best wishes on your family's travels. Link to comment

Guest ShaQuaNew
Now that's different. Wife leaves you in China and goes to the US. It is quite a turnabout.... Lan and Sarah are finishing packing now. It's about 6:30AM, and they will be taking the fast train to Shanghai in a few hours. Then, leave for the US the next day. Honestly, it really gives me a chance to become more independent. I find I get pretty lazy in relying upon Lan to order in restaurants, take care of local bills, and get from place to place. I've gotten to know some of the major routes and roads here in the last several months, and have been taking the bus rather than cabs to get around. It's really quite a bit cheaper to take the bus than a cab. We went grocery shopping yesterday, and picked up a lot of things. Actually have enough food in the house to make it for month; isn't beer considered food? Edited February 21, 2009 by ShaQuaNew (see edit history) Link to comment
