robhon
My mother called the NVC early Friday morning and they told her our case was forwarded to GZ on Sept 5th. Yay!! One more step along the road home. Link to comment

tywy_99
Good news, RobI wonder if it will be held in mail by customs. Might be worth checking out if GZ doesn't have information to give you about your case in a week or two. Oh, and congrats to you and your wife on the fine baby boy. Link to comment
robhon
Thanks everyone! Baby Sonny and mother Youyue are both doing very well. We've now left the hospital and are back at Youyue's parent's house in Hechuan. The baby is just a joy! He's such a good baby too. Youyue can now do late night feedings with the baby hardly making a peep. And handle the other end of things. I change the diaper while he's all engaged in nipple work. Youyue just has one major discomfort, other than the expected pains from her C-section. The Chinese tradition is that the mother doesn't bathe for 40 days. It's making her very uncomfortable with herself, but she does what her family tells her. Personally, I hardly notice it. I just get so beside myself with joy whenever I see her or the baby. If pleasure could ever be so intense as to kill you, this is what it would feel like. Link to comment
Dave G.
The Chinese tradition is that the mother doesn't bathe for 40 days. HAHAHAHA Why doesn't Youyue's mother bathe? Jing Mei told me about that tradition/custom. I thought, "?" Since she'll hopefully give birth here in the US, I told her we do not...WILL NOT... follow that practice here. I said if she wants my help, I won't be able to help her if I can't get near her. Even JM thinks it's a silly practice. But when she had her baby 10 years ago, she did as Youyue. She listened to her mom and did as she was told....and hated every minute of it. Remember the movie Seven? They found the guy who had been tortured for an entire year. In the room were several hundred car fresheners hanging from the ceiling. Just a thought, Rob, how to get through those 40 days. BTW: JM can't explain why they don't bathe. Any ideas? Enjoy and congrats about NVC! Link to comment
frank1538
BTW: JM can't explain why they don't bathe. Any ideas? I read somewhere that the post-partum period is considered a "cold" period for the mother, and she is believed to be weak and vunerable to infection and disease. So, she should avoid baths and hair washing to keep the wind from entering the body. Link to comment

I've learned to try and value Chinese medicine, but this one seems bassakwards. Link to comment
Bob & Minglian
Rob, 40 days and 40 nights ... kinda reminds me of something else. That's interesting and certainly something I'm sure most of us didn't know. Well, without a doubt, Youyue will be ready to bathe on day 41. I'm happy for you, Sonny, and mom. It won't be long now and you'll all be at home in CA. Link to comment

That should speed the interview up a bit...ya think? Interesting....I missed the 40 day thing. I think that number is important in a variety of religions. Link to comment

One more step along the road home. Has your mother got some serious connections or what? Maybe I should have been asking my mother to call DoS for me back during the black hole era. Congratulations on the progress of your case. Link to comment
