Richard & Li
There are some great guidelines and FAQs on CFL. Also, many of us have posted what we actually did. Here's the page mine is on: AOS 2008 info forum I just mailed it a week ago. So, I'm hoping I got it right. Thanks to the good folks here at CFL, I'm pretty confident... Link to comment
Richard & Li
Looking back, I only addressed the AOS part of your question. You should be able to apply for her SSN at the nearest federal SSN admin office. For us, that is only about a mile from our house. Your son will not be able to get a SSN until after the EAD. (The K2 visa does not provide for it.) Depending on her English language fluency and your confidence in her ability to adapt to America traffic patterns and laws, you should be able to take her for the driver's license immediatly after she receives the SSN. (Also individual state laws will apply.) When she has either a driver's license or a state ID, setting her up with a bank account should be no different than anyone else. Best wishes... Randy W
But most states require either EAD or green card before you can get either the state ID or DL Link to comment
yuehan123
Wait a couple of weeks after POE before applying for SSN. The two gov't departments' computers take at least that long for the SS Admin to agree with DOS/DHS that your wife is legally here. As far as DL and ID, at least in Florida, they accepted (as of 2005-2006) the EAD NOA receipt as proof of legal residency for my wife's ID. Later on, I am sure I recall using the AOS NOA for DL. Check your State's motor vehicle web site or driver's handbook. And, like 'they' said: "don't forget to read CFL's FAQ's. Link to comment
