Vkearney3
My situation: I am a K1 visa petition and my wife just went to have her medical exam today for us to send our AOS packet in. Now..the civil surgeon has really pissed me off and made me extremely frustrated and confused. My wife did her medical on China for GUZ and received her little red book of medical information, issued 02 June 2008. I printed out all those things that say my wife doesn't need a new medical exam just her immunizations shots. The civil surgeon said I was wrong and argued with me for about an hour. Finally she said I will do what you want but I will see you again because the government will send you back for the medical exam anyway. What have I missed here? If I get a RFE I will go crazy. Should I get the new medical to be safe? Also, I here talk that we need two added shots to the immunization, liek a TB skin test and something else. Well i asked the civil surgeon and she said no, I will only do that if we have a full medical exam. Someone please help me out. I am going crazy. So In the end we paid $185 for two shots (MMR and Tetanus) and a blood test to check if my wife ever had a shot for chickenpox, if she didn't then we will return to get that shot because adults who have had it already may get side effects. So two shots, thats it? We are a 02 June 08 medical from GUZ..Do i need anything else? Thank you for yoru time and I am sorry if my post seems rough, Im just extremely overdone with work, school, greencard process, bills, then this bullshit from the civil surgeon. Thanks everyone. -Vin Link to comment

This has come up befor that the civil surgeon and/or his assistant tried to convince K-1 visa holders that they needed the entire physical. That is wrong. k-1 visa holders only need the vaccination supplement when applying for AOS. Link to comment
dnoblett
I had to deal with a similar situation with Civil Surgeon, I simply brought the directions for I-485 and pointed to the instructions about vaccination supplement for K-1. A full medical is NOT required, all you need to do is download I-693 and point out the directions. A full medical is NOT a requirement for AOS from a K-Visa only the vaccination part of I-693 is. Recently USCIS has updated form I-693 with updated directions for Civil Surgeons explicitly explaining that ALL K-Visas do not need a full physical. I-693: 2. What if I am a K nonimmigrant visa holder and already had a medical exam overseas? If you were admitted as a: A. K-1 fianc¨¦(e) or a K-2 child of a K-1 fianc¨¦(e), or as aB. K-3 spouse of a U.S. citizen or a K-4 child of a K-3 spouse of a U.S. citizen, andC. You received a medical examination prior to admission, then- a. You are not required to have another medical examination as long as your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, is filed within one year of your overseas medical examination. b. You will, however, be required to complete Part 1, Information about you, and submit the vaccination section of Part 2 with your adjustment of status application. A designated civil surgeon must complete the vaccination section and Part 5, the Civil Surgeon's Certification. http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-693instr.pdf And form I-485 directions have this:8. Fianc¨¦(e)s. If you are a K-1 fianc¨¦(e) or K-2 dependent who had a medical examination within the past year as required for the nonimmigrant fianc¨¦(e) visa, you only need to submit a vaccination supplement, not the entire medical report. You may include the vaccination supplement with your adjustment-of-status application. http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-485instr.pdf Common subject: http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...c=32411&hl= Link to comment

Aiwen & Jim
I had to deal with a similar situation ... Similar story here. I called a local clinic listed on uscis website and the attendant told me she has been doing this for 25 years and that I was obviously confused and even insisted I take an immigration lawyers number down after I had read her the instructions from the I-693 instruction file! This Dr Arnold sounds interesting ... My wife is worried about multiple immunizations and if this Dr Arnold will be legit. She doesn't have her immunization records since she had these when she was young in school. Will there be a problem if she has these shots after she had them when she was young? Link to comment
lostinblue
People get booster shots all the time. Often 2-3 series in a row. Look at Tetanus. Most often a doctor will ask you when the last time you had a tetanus shot if you have a deep cut .If more than 10 years .....Drop your pants. As mentioned above most people in the world have been exposed to chicken pox so a blood test will show no need for one. You think in the army they ask when the last time you had a shot when you join up ......get in line boys get in line. Link to comment
Guest Rob & Jin
yep we had the same problem, DR wanting the big cash . just show them the USCIS and CDC forms. If the medical is less than a year old no need to repeat it, vaccines depend on age (HPV) and when medical was after 6/08 will have to get TB skin test. good luck Link to comment
