After months of hype in which commentators said she was "expected," "likely" and "the favorite" to bring glory to her country, Du Li crashed and burned -- at least by Chinese standards -- finishing fifth in the 10m air rifle competition last Saturday, the first day of full competition. At that point, Chinese spectators let her have it.

 

"The state spent so much money on you, provided you with such good facilities, gave you four years to train," one former fan wrote on Tiexue, one of China's biggest online bulletin boards. " . . . You disappoint your countrymen."

There is no question that these Chinese Olympians carry a great burden. We watched women's badminton yesterday afternoon and the first match was for the bronze medal with China and Indonesia competing. When the Indonesian woman won the poor Chinese woman just completely broke down... The next match for the gold featured China against China... So she had ruined the sweep...

Yes and we all have to live with some changes in our lives because of this face thing and keeping up with the Jones. Maybe not real bad, but ahhhh...........sometimes..........
