After marriage and green card then travel to china

Recommended Posts

We are married and her Green card has her marred name on it as does all of her American documents.

After talking to a Friend she is worried about what happens when she returns to China. Her Chinese passport has her maiden name and her green card has her married name.

Normally, you have to go there. I am not sure if an agency can do this.

It is not a problem. My wife has traveled to China twice since her name change. She brought the marriage cert with her but never needed it. It is best to book the tickets using the name on her passport-but not necessary.

Once ion China it is a simple thing to change her passport. They don't really change it, they add a page with her new name so she can fly using either name.

Once again, bring the proof of a name change-wedding license just in case--but you will likely never need it.

She must go to the consulate in person or wait until she is in China and do it there. As Trigg said the only hitch is the plane ticket needs to match the name on the passport.

Wife's been to China twice and returned through POE (Detroit once and LAX once) without any problem using plane tickets in the passport name and greencard in a different name. Only question was at the China side airline counter on the first trip. They wanted to enter the g/c information into their computer system.

The only problem was collecting the airline miles because that account is in the greencard name. A phone call to airline solved that.
