rogerluli
Millions in China are without water or electricity. Laopo called her sister last night who lives in a small city in Hunan and that was her story also... This weather disaster is going to cost China tremendously...Here's an update from Reuters... http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/PEK261760.htm Link to comment
PapaBear
You're right Roger....it won't be such a happy new year, because of the disasters resulting from the harsh winter storms pounding most of China. During the Annual Spring Gala aired on CCTV Chinese New Year's Eve, attention and awareness will be focused on those less fortunate and their plight for relief. Should be interesting. This program will air at 8 PM Beijing time on Wednesday, February 6th on CCTV 9 (Direct TV Channel 265). Watch or record and watch later if you can. Let's keep those less fortunate in our (??prayers??) hearts! PapaBear Edited February 5, 2008 by PapaBear (see edit history) Link to comment

Yeah Randy......CCTV9 consistently shows it's regularly scheduled programs on the TV menu/guide (most are on the half hour....Up Close is 45 minutes and Travel in Chinese is 15 minutes) even when a special gala is planned. If you go to the CCTV9 web site.....you'll see information about the Gala and how you can view it even if you don't subscribe to a service which provides CCTV (they will webcast this gala). CCTV also threw a Gala for the 2007/2008 New Year also. We had the same question about the programming listed on Satalite too. But we ignored the menu/guide and got up early and watched that one too. A lot of song and dance.......which we really really like!! Check it out. You'll be surprised how the show can take ya right back to China and feel like a part of their tradition and celebration. PapaBear
OK - I see - but how long should I set my recorder for? I don't see that anywhere. That's where this gets alittle tricky Randy. Since the Satalite Menu/Guide still shows "half hour" programming.....it's difficult to program the DVR to catch the whole broadcast without it wanting to stop and begin with each program change. I encountered this at the 2007/2008 New Year Gala. This time I am going to set up a VCR and run my satalite signal through it......then set the speed for 4 or 6 hour record speed. The Gala usually runs an hour past the witching hour.....so I figure a minimum of 5 hours of record time needed. B) If all else fails....you can program your DVR to record the "half hour" programs but it makes for a pretty choppy recording.....not to mention the frustration that sets in when you have to pick up the remote to start the next segment (each half-hour). Hope my info helps........and enjoy the show!!! PapaBear Edited February 5, 2008 by PapaBear (see edit history) Link to comment

Xie xie, still trying to figure out the internet TV options! USA Today showed some more pictures of the storm damage in todays' edition! It showed a policeman cracking on someone waiting for a train? It stated some areas will be without power for weeks or longer! Link to comment
tsap seui
I'm sorry to hear what the southerners are going thru. My lil' rabbit is up north and they are used to the cold, and aren't experiencing coal shortages or even much snow. They have heat which gets the home up to at least a whoppin' 50 degrees or so, and they live the winters in longjohns, thick ones, but like the rest of you, will they let me buy them an electric heater to knock the chill off? HELLNO!!! tsap seui Edited February 6, 2008 by tsap seui (see edit history) Link to comment
