Guest Tony n Terrific
I am fully aware of the cultural differences between Chinese and American peoples. Right here in our own country we have the culture clash. Look at the deep South compared to the Northeast. The conservative Midwest to the West Coast. How many time have we heard this "It not the way we do things here."What are some of the things you experienced in the culture clash or differences that had a sobering effect on you and your SO? I'm a USC, and I'll go out on a limb and state: America has no culture. It has habits and customs, but no culture.Things you see that might resemble culture got here via imports. Sure, we invented 'pop culture' - but isn't that mostly a nice glitzy way to sell advertising? Link to comment

Dennis143
Cultural differences First time Leiqin enters my (her new) home she points at my piggy bank and then at herself and proudly proclaims "I am a pig!" with a big smile on her face. I knew right then that this relationship would be unlike any other I've had. Link to comment

SheLikesME?
To experience the differences, that must be lived, takes up so much time there is no time to write it all down much less remember it. Hell I have adapted too much now. Wouldnt trade it for the world, but wifey might be willing to make a trade. Link to comment

The interaction between males and females in the USA as opposed to China. You have no business whatsoever to talk to any female outside of a) family B) work place (and only about work!) or c) shopping/eating out. Are you old enough to remember life in the USA before say, 1960? Well, that's kinda (notice I said "kinda") like where China is now. But even that depends on the age of the people you're interacting with.... over 35? or under 30? Just my 2 cents. Others may disagree. Link to comment

My wife I feel dates back to a bit of my mothers era. They save and work hard and do things that take longer (edit more work done fast) but it saves money. Just a little money! Plus they both had out houses. Her Father still does. Problem is my wife still walks at night or rides bike to work and back at all hours. I just hope she is safe. Link to comment
warpedbored
Of course we have culture. In America if you work hard you can succeed regardless of your background. We respect individualism, We respect anyone's right to their religious beliefs. We don't understand why other countries have wars over religion. In America it's OK to call someone by their first name. We have Baseball, football (not that sissy soccer) and other sports. The super bowl is almost a national holiday. We invented the telephone, movies, airplanes, and many other modern inventions that have shaped our culture. We brought the world rock and roll, the blues, jazz, rap, disco country music. and musicals. You don't see many young people in most other countries listening to their own traditional music. They are listening to American style music even if they do sing it in their own language. Link to comment

She is much safer doing that in China than in most moderate sized towns in the USA. I fear that will change over the next few years in China also. Link to comment

You can walk anywhere or bike also! Now the public transportation will take awhile for the girls to adjust to, but a warm friendly place! I know someone every time I walk into any store or business in town, a great feeling! Mark Link to comment
