Yuhui&Eric
Well, everything sounds settled down to us so far except the "interview" which we think it is just a matter of time, and since I've got all the papers(SSN, EAD, AP, DL), we really don't care about the interview too much.. I think it is LEGAL to do almost everything here, so I start local university search for another degree, as well as some job huntings. But today I got two frustrating phone calls. One was from a university, when topic came to my status in the States, I answered" I've applied for Permanent Residency and it is in process."University: "Then which type of visa you have"Me: " K-1 fiancee visa"University: " Then you are not allowed to work here"Me: "I've got my EAD which is valid till next April and by then the green card should be issued."University: " Our program would last more than 1 year, so contact me after you get your green card..." Another call was from a company I just sent resume this morning. At first it sounded like a phone interview, then again came to the status...Company: " You are a citizen or permanent resident?"Me: " My permanent residency is being processed now and I have legal work permit now"Company: " no, we won't consider you then"Me: " But I am legal to work in the States now"Company: " no, maybe you can contact us after you get your green card. Have a good day, bye!" I am so confused and frustrated now... if so, what EAD means??? But I did use EAD to work for a translation company on line once... Just hope not every comapny/university do the same... Does anyone here have some experience like this? Link to comment
Yuhui&Eric
But as far as the company is concerned, he is right, he won't hire you with the 1-year valid EAD for a permanent position, what if no green card after one year? Maybe it is just for some temperory job like working in KFC?? Honey would be against me to do that though Actually I just want to get involved in the society and thanks for my honey's a hundred percent support! Link to comment
AZwolfman
We live in a region of the country that is warm climate and the economy thrives off tourism. Hence there are a lot of transients. EVERYONE here must obtain a work card. There are many foreigners and intending immigrants who work here with work cards, and I know of no one who has been denied a job because they were not citizens. I have lived also in Phoenix for 15 years, and the situation is much the same there. I am assuming it is similar in California, and am surprised it is not similar situation in Florida. Keep trying. You will find the job that is right for you. As for our personal situation, my wife will complete schooling in a couple weeks. Then she will be looking for a casino job. Hopefully my contacts will make her search short. Link to comment
Mick
Many companies and industries are totally ignorant of immigration issues. They seem to vascillate between two extremes. Either they won't hire anyone who doesn't have a green card and permanent residency or they will hire anyone, including illegals. Especially illegals. It is a sad state of affairs but oh so true. Many companies will not take the time or the bother to investigate what a K-1 visa is. They will just refuse to hire the person. I wish you success in your job hunting Yuhui. Link to comment
