Feeling Left Behind

Recommended Posts

I can only sympathize with you wait2long. I can't imagine the stress and frustration you must be feeling now. We were in the same position a while back I remember. You can't get any information from DOS and your file is sitting somewhere at the port waiting for customs clearance. One interesting thing a visa specialist told me. She said they are doing it on purpose, just to piss us off. (withholding random packages). I know from experience after living in Beijing for 5 years now, sometimes packages get held up for extremely long amounts of time for no particular reason. It seems like you just caught some really bad luck.

I think I've told you before, but when I was in that situation, I asked if there was something I could do and that I had heard after 120 days you could do something. The specialist told me to call back the next week, and I got the p3 before that. That's all I can tell you, but I'm hoping you hear something soon.

Hi all,

My fiancee petition was sent from the NVC to GUZ on June 25, 2007 and still has not been received in GUZ. When I call DOS they just say it is probably in customs, it takes a long time, and there is nothing they can do. I have called the NVC and they say they wont do anything unless GUZ says in writing that they have not received it. I have called the GUZ info line and they can not do anything. I have emailed GUZ and I get a generic response that says it is probably in transit. I'm feeling a little helpless right now. It has no been over 5 months. Other cases shiped the same day as mine were received about 1 month ago. Anyone have any advice?

You sat a long time at NVC, sorry. Make sure you are asking the correct question to the DOS operator. You should ask if your case has been loaded.

LOADED = NVC has sent an electronic copy of the petition to GUZ, but hardcopy petition information has NOT been entered by GUZ.

Yep, the status is loaded. GUZ has not received yet. It's on the slow boat to China.

Next question will be is your case open.

OPEN = This does not occur until AFTER GUZ signs by STAMP for the DHL package sent by the NVC. Within days to a few weeks after that, GUZ will enter information into the computer and the case is then considered to be "Open." The P3 is then mailed.

When our case was sent from the NVC to GUZ I waited 3 months before calling DOS. I tried to coincide my third trip to possibly having the case "open" so we could celebrate together. I got to China and spent 3 weeks there. I called a few times from China and "no change, not open".

Here is something that may help you and I never read this anywhere or thought to ask a DOS operator for this. At the 3 month and 3 week point, while in China, I explained to the DOS operator how long it had been and the DOS operator said, "You know what, I can, and I will send GUZ an e-mail and ask them what is the delay and had they maybe lost your case."

Three or four days later, and on the day before I left I called the DOS and found out the case had been opened that day.

Next time you call DOS try asking the operator if he/she would send an inquiry e-mail to GUZ about your overdue case. I hope it helps, at least it would make someone look for your files.

Good luck to ya,
