michaelt
In preparation for my gal's arrival someday, hopefully soon, she has asked for me to locate and install this software. Can anyone tell me what it does, where to buy or download it, and any other requirements I will need to help her with our America XP machines? Anything better out there, yet similar enough for her to use? (she was VERY specific and only mentioned THIS software 3 times in her last e-mail!!!)...she's so cute!Thank you for any info. dnoblett
I have it on several computers. You need Windows XP PRO. Then 2 additional things XP MUI Pack disk, and for Office 2003, Office MUI pack disk for simplified Chinese. The MUI pack disks are a corporate thing, but the ISO files are easy to find on the file trade networks like eMule. http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/DrIntl/faqs/winxp.mspxhttp://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/drintl/FAQs/muifaq.mspx I am an MCSE so have known about this type of thing due to deploying the OS in corporate environments. Don't have "Pro" but will see what upgrading requires, and then pursue your links. Must admit, a bit beyond my "hack" computer building knowledge! Thanks so much. Link to comment

Good for you! Hope you have a great time! You'll love it, and remember it forever. Your gal will look out for you. Have people take pictures of you two!!! Different clothing and places and with her family as much as possible. And save all receipts, boarding passes, etc. (I lost a couple of boarding passes!) Randy W
It installs off the XP CD (either Pro or Home) - just go to Control Panel/Language and Regional options. Edited November 7, 2007 by Randy W (see edit history) Link to comment

spacebar
Just FYI Michael. If your lao po uses QQ like mine does. She will probably have a lot of problems trying to install QQ 2007 Chinese or any other QQ versions prior to that. That's because the program specifically is written for Windows XP Chinese language O.S. . It's the same for Windows Vista. I know it happened to me and everyt time it installs it displays question marks instead of the characters. But there is an alternative , you can download QQ 2005 English version. That works without a problem. YOu can still use QQ live. It's very odd because you can type out Chinese characters in skype and msn but with QQ , they just don't display...... When in doubt, dual boot if you know. Just install Windows XP Chinese on one partition and English on another although that may be confusing for users that are not familiar with that process. If you have Vista, dual boot with XP. In preparation for my gal's arrival someday, hopefully soon, she has asked for me to locate and install this software. yaya44
fyi - I personally recommend Google IME much more than Mickeysoft implementation (well unless you have Vista, then it's a wash). Even all my Chinese friends use it on their XP machines. You can get it from : http://tools.google.com/pinyin/index.html There is also an extensive detailed description of the options in English at http://scattered-notes.blogspot.com/2007/0...nese-input.html (G-IME text is only in Chinese). Note: you must have Far East characters installed beforehand. Good luck! Edited February 7, 2008 by yaya44 (see edit history) Link to comment
