rogerluli
Okay I suckered you into reading this thread with my catchy title that has nothing to do with the topic... or I hope not anyway... my bad... I've always wanted to take some kind of a long river cruise in China...Last year we took the train from Hunan to GZ and you run along the Pearl River for quite a long time and man did that look like it would be incredible to see from the water...No, no not the 'spensive ones for western tourists to canned sights... But a real Chinese boat stopping at cities along the way and slowly making it's way down one of the great rivers of China... I found a boat that goes from Guangzhou to Haikou like three times a week, leaving GZ at 4:00 PM and arriving at Haikou at 10:00 AM the next morning...tickets run 150 to 500 RMB/person...I've already survived an overnight bus ride in China and I NEVER want anything like that again but has anyone in CFLland done a boat cruise or heard about what it's like or even know of any??? NewDay2006
has anyone in CFLland done a boat cruise or heard about what it's like or even know of any??? As a matter of fact I did. When in China the last time, my wife and I went to Guilin, we took a ride down the river, I think it was the yellow river... it wasn't overnight or anything... it was a 3 1/2 hour cruise and the sights were great. I don't think I could have handled any longer. The cruise company drove us back to Guilin in a van. I throughly enjoyed the trip. They did feed us a hot lunch which was cooked on the back of the boat. I would ask my wife for specifics but Lao Po is a sleep now. Link to comment

Everyone does - I counted at least 13 other boats that I could see at the same time - VERY heavy traffic. Link to comment

But you could take the Li River and whatever it connects with downstream and eventually end up going through Guangzhou on the Pearl and then out to the sea...That's the kind of trip I want... I will have to talk with my wife about this one. I am meeting her in Guangzhou and we are headed south so this might be a nice option travel wise. Yes, I guess I'm one of everybody ... but there were only 4 other boats on the river that day and I wasn't driving, plus I thought it was very cool to see the other boats. B) Pete are you trying to get me... I knew that there are fancy/shmancy tours like these but I'm looking more for a boat that cruises a long way down a river...stopping to load/unload cargo at towns along the way...has a couple of cabins to help defray costs...sort of like Threadbare's container ship travel but on China's rivers instead of across the Pacific... Too extravagant. Just blow up an inner tube and climb aboard and you'll have your lazy drift to sea. It's too perfect... No more squat toilets for me... Link to comment
