michaelt
I've sent my dear SO information on Mr. Yang's and Mr Xie's place's to stay. I am really hoping one of them can arrange pickup at airport (I will gladly pay for this), ride to medical, ride to pickup medical results and interview help (or atleast support). I may or not be able to attend. I just wanted to hear recent thoughts and opinions since previous posts are a bit old and do not want my SO exposed to the sharks, confusion or hotels with similar names. Forgive me if this is not the right place to post. Link to comment
dnoblett
MR Yang will tell you what bus lines to take. In our case I hired a car through my travel agency to pick up at airport and bring to the consulate where Mr Yang's wife met us, and later the car took up back to the airport when leaving. Mr Yang's wife escorted us to the medical, we then found our way back on the subway, and used the subway to return to the medical facility to take care of vaccinations. The Yangs are very helpful. Damn you're thorough Dan! Did the driver have a sign with your name on it as you came out of the arrival gate? Good planning certainly helps to lessen the stress of being in a new and foreign city. mikepellicore
We are at Mr. Yangs now, his wife is pregnant, they came to our room and reviewed our interview preparation. They gave us help with getting to the medical, we took a taxi the first day, but the wife didn't like the expense, so we took the bus for pick-up. We forgot to bring a copy of the interview invitation letter, and the bus took over an hour, so we took the subway, line 1. the station is less than 1 mile walk from the medical we went to (Shamian Island). Yang's place is about 1/2 way between the last 2 stops, the end of the line, is beyond the bus terminal, and you have to walk through the enclosed bus station and all the fumes. When we went to the Citic bank to pay for the visa I noticed a metro station, a much nicer walk through the park to get to Yang's. You have to get off the line 1 train and switch to line 3, and get off at the next to last stop. I think it might even be closer to Yang'sthe taxi was $37rmb each way, bus $2rmb each, each way, and the subway was $5rmb each each way. If I left out anything, just ask!Mike & Zhen Link to comment

I was looking for current opinions since the best posts about TianYu Garden and Mr. Xie's place are a bit dated.Thank you again, I wish you both much success and happiness! : ) Link to comment
