C4Racer
Hey, people,I was just discussing this with my friend the other day, and I was told that when IR visa holders have been married for 3 years (since the date of marriage), they are eligible to apply for US citizenship? Is it true?FREEASABIRD No, not true. Three years is true, but it is based on residency in the US (anniversary of green card issued), not anniversary of the marriage. Spouses of U.S. Citizens Generally, certain lawful permanent residents married to a U.S. citizen may file for naturalization after residing continuously in the United States for three years if immediately preceding the filing of the application: the applicant has been married to and living in a valid marital union with the same U.S. citizen spouse for all three years;the U.S. spouse has been a citizen for all three years and meets all physical presence and residence requirements; andthe applicant meets all other naturalization requirements http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00048f3d6a1RCRD Normally, this is Five years, but our spouses receive a waiver at three years of residency.
