ESL Class Turns into Job

My wife received a job offer as a teaching assistant
with the SF City College, ESL program, at the end of
this semester.

Seems she is the top student.

I am trying to figure out what kind of job I can find over Houston:) right now I am woking in a joint venture(Devon and Cnooc) oil company in China, the Maintenance Assistant for two offshore platforms.

Way to go! That first job is critical to begin a job history in the US. A good reference here can be a spring board to bigger and better offerings in the future.

 

My thoughts exactly.

 

I've told her she should be prepared to be turned down but

make the most of the interview experience.

 

So this is a good win situation for her.

 

I've had this nightmare vision of her pushing a Dim Sum cart

and enjoying it.

Update:

 

Wife says the school needs a SSC and state ID

to get the job.

 

Can't get either since we are still in the AOS security

check Black Hole.

 

Wife not happy and said I should call "them".

 

Made InfoPass appointment for Wednesday.

What am I missing?

 

The EAD is what you need for the SS. The SS will get you the state ID, unless your state requires a green card.

From your timeline it says she already has EAD and been through AOS interview. That should be all she needs to get an SSN which should be all she needs to get a state ID card.

The issue with the SS is that we put in two request for the card

and SSA said they were mailed but were not received.

We did get the print out though. Our third attempt was to have the

card sent to the office and pick it up in person but that request

was blocked by DHS because the visa (I94) hit the 90 day mark.

 

DMV shut us down because there was less than 90 days on her visa(I94).

 

Since she was in school and doing something positive I elected to go

ahead with the AOS and pick things up again when we got the GC.

 

I got tired of taking days off just to be shut down.

 

After some though, I will reschedule the InfoPass for early Friday and

try the SSA after that. Friday is my day off.

 

Maybe the FBI will "dust" things off and clear us.

After the I-94 expired, you got the EAD card.

 

The EAD is enough to get the SS. Employment Authorization is all that is required. You do not need to wait for a green card.

After a good night's sleep and some rational thought

I've switched modes and ready to do battle again.

 

We hit the SSA on Friday at 08:00 and the DMV at 12:00.

 

The job starts on 18 Jan. so we should make it.
