Figuring out how to manage "Additional Processing"

Recommended Posts

How can I obtain more information regarding the SAO (Security Advisory Opinion) process? Specifically, how can a visa applicant ascertain his position (i.e. wait time)?

For clarification I provide a quick example: my fiancee's K1 application is currently undergoing the SAO procedure due to her involvement in the Chinese Communist Party. While the visa officer who interviewed her gave assurances that the additional processing would take 30 days, we have received no information on her visa's status in many, many months. Without information regarding this visa's status, we are unable to make an informed decision as to whether we should rescind our current visa application and apply for a different type of visa (like a K3), or continue to wait.

A different type of visa (like a K3 or CR1) won't help.

I just got blue for a CR1 visa, an other lady got blue for her K3 visa in Sep.,Paula got blue for IR1 visa in June and another CFLer got blue last nov. for k1 visa, all due to the CCP membership.

It seems no one finsished the additional process, what they did just call DOS and check the status. but till now didn't hear anybody overcome it though it wrote 2 -3 months on the blue slip.

Yes, like mama bear said nobody can help us. It really sucks. I was told many times by DOS that all my name checks( 3 name checks) are done in october at washington, and my husband also got a letter from department of states and reinformed us my name check clearance was forwarded to Guangzhou, but I was told my DOS this week that consulate is running another check to me? I asked DOS if it is name check, she said similiar, then I asked her if it is background check, she said similiar again. My husband wanted to see his 2 senators in person this morning, when he is ready to go and called senators offices to make appointments. One senator representative told my husband that she wont see him because the more he ask people to involve in our case, the longer my case will be done. She said more people will have to pull out my file so maybe something will be lost, which will delay the case. :o another senatro representaive asked my husband if I have a common chinese name, she said if I do, it will take longer time to check. ;) the problem is my name check is clear but GZ requested another check the 4th check now :( maybe like senator hinted" dont bother consulate, otherwise you will be punished-----request more check"????

My understanding is everyone, including GUZ is waiting... so they cannot even check on it. DOS is the best place to call, but all they can say is it is either processing or done. It's a terrible waiting game.

I think I spoke too quickly about GUZ's non-involvement.. although my understanding is that they don't have much influence since it is outside of their department, usually somewhere in Washington DC...

but have a read at their comments here.. not sure how applicable this would be to those undergoing additional checks due to CCP membership issues, but I think worth the read:

This morning I called DOS and they said that, as of Nov 17, DHS has found "no objection" to my fiancee's involvement in the CCP. That was all that the DOS "visa specialist" could tell me.

Does anyone know what that means? Is my case sent back to Guangzhou for further proccessing? Is the hard part over?

That actually sounds as though it has moved from the investigatory stage to the approved stage since they were able to even get that much. If there is "no objection" then, that sounds like an approval to me....coming days should tell...

This only tells me the Department's SAO came back with a 'no problem'... Once GUZ gets it back, it's up to them to decide on final processing and issuance (or not); that is their authority (not the SAO nor DHS).

keep us updated.
